ItemImageDeep Ellum is a gentrified warehouse neighborhood located three blocks east of downtown Dallas. It has a compelling history, having been originally settled by freedmen, and was a strong, predominantly black retail and entertainment center by the 1920s. Today, the area is 170 acres of stimulation, heightened by graffiti-covered walls, fashion-forward style, and music-filled venues.

This is really a great place, full of life and excitement at times. Kick ass shops too, only place in Dallas that isnt created to cater to the Damned tourists that are too cheap to go to the capital

Unlike the rest of Dallas, Deep Ellum actually has a little bit of flavor. You will not find the huge chain restaurants that line the superhighways that make up most of the DFW area. This neighborhood is actually a little scruffy - there are converted warehouses serving as live music venues, and it is generally a pretty raucous scene. It is the only part of Dallas that I saw that wasn't antisceptic - definitely worth a look if you find yourself on an overnight layover or something.
