The Freedom Trail is a nice path to follow for tourists interested in getting a bit of history in with their baseball fix (Having grown up there, I'm convinced baseball is the primary reason people choose to visit and/or live in boston.) I'd recommend sticking to the part of the Freedom Trail that stays in the city (It extends across the bridge into Charleston), and skipping the silly paid walking tours they offer in favor of reading the signs along the way.

This place is useless unless you're a bored tourist/history nerd. I enjoyed it because I came here the year I took US history in school and was bent on finding all the places my history book talked about. I was probably the only person on the tour who was elated to see Paul Revere's house. So unless you're really bored, the Freedom Trail should rank low on your list of things to do.

I mean, whatever. Its a cool thing to do if your a tourist visiting cause you get to see a lot of the different neighborhoods in the city or in the downtown area. And if your a historical freak, this is perfect for you, cause you will stop off at a lot of historical spots. I recommend doing this on a nice breezy 70 degree weather day, otherwise you'll be freezing your ass off, or sweating like no other....spring time is the best.

I live within 20 minutes of boston and the freedom trail although historical is pretty friggin boring.

A well-done look at an integral part of U.S. history. Be aware that when you get into Boston's North End, it's pretty much of an Italian neighborhood. You might hear Italian (or, more properly, a southern Italian dialect) being spoken there as much as English. Don't be surprised. I thought that was a neat part of the Trail (although there are those who, I suppose, would be put off by it).

The most incredible 2.5 miles of American history anywhere in the world. Any history fan will experience something that they will remember for a life time. Don’t miss it, but spend some time and take a good guide with you. There are so many landmarks and people that you might miss without it. And after you climb to the top of the Bunker Hill memorial, go to Little Italy for some wonderful food and drink.

On the Washington DC site, people commented on the National Mall as being patriotic and how wonderful it was. But, it's man-made, long after the fact. The Freedom Trail is history, yours and mine. It's a place to walk and to experience how America grew to become a country - a great country. You see landmarks that are landmarks not because they were built to represent history, but because they are history. It's as American as any 2.5 miles in the US. And, it's there because it happened.

Other reviewers pointed out what's on the trail, I just want to reinforce that I walked the thing from start to finish and think it's great. You don't necessarily NEED a comprehensive guidebook or a tour guide. But don't skip it if you're in Boston.

Do not let your Boston vacation go by without walking The Freedom Trail! The 2-mile trail is jam packed with historic points of interest such as Fanueil Hall, Paul Revere's home and the Boston Massacre. Be sure to bring a comprehensive guidebook with you to fully enhance your Freedom Trail experience.

A few years ago my family and I made the long trip from San Francisco to Boston. It is a long trip but worthwhile. The Freedom Trail is perfect for a short trip because you walk past all the significant places to see. You get the perfect amount of scenary, history and tourism. I really enjoyed Boston as a city too. It is so different from what I am used to on the West Coast. I got more of a sense of United States history while I was in Boston. I highly recommend the Freedom Trail for anybody.

Sorry, but I lived on the Freedom Trail and hated the way tourists seemed to think that everyone in the North End was a curiosity. People took pictures of me sweeping my steps or watering my windowbox.
