It's the only room where you can drop your pants and sit down and no one cares. That's relaxed right there. And when I'm relaxed I can rest.

But if you always call it a bathroom, that means you would have to take a bath every time you walk into one of those places. And I'd rather not, especially at Wal-Mart.

anyone who has even worked a job and knows this is the only place you can go w/a book for about 15 minutes of peace, knows the answer to this one.

Quite possibly the term comes from the Victorian era when euphemisms were used to avoid saying indelicate things outright. There are many examples. Like in a family way for pregnant etc.

I thought Europeans (and some eastern Candians) called it the washroom. Are you not supposed to be resting in there?

I've always wondered why it's called a restroom in the States. Does anyone know where it came from? Perhaps 'toilets' would suffice. We used to use lavatories, loos or public conveniences...bit old fashioned now.

this had made me nuts for years. it also bothers me that they are called bathrooms when they don't necessarily contain bathtubs. if you are resting in there, you have major problems. it is time that we come up with a reasonable name for toilet facilities.
