 | Daccory (15) 09/28/2004 | I have been astonished to read of the arrogance of responses here saying the US is the most environmentally friendly country. What????? The rest of the world will be horrified to hear that the world's worst industrial polluter (the US creates 25% of the world's harmful emissions as opposed to making up only 4% of the world's population) thinks it doesn't need to get it's act together.
These need to be sent to the world's media so we can all see what arrogance we are dealing with.

 | EschewObfuscation (61) 09/10/2004 | Look. No industrialized country is more environmentally friendly than the US. Sorry, since the late 60's we have had a stellar track record in reducing damage to the environment, moreso than our European and Asian competitors, to our competitive detriment. You want to clean up the environment? Go where the big, high volume abusers are. Developing nations. Nations that can't really afford the environmental controls that US firms live with every day.

 | jamestkirk (23) 09/10/2004 | Always. Some environmentalists, however, go overboard on this issue.

 | Jaws (10) 09/09/2004 | Right. How about protecting our lands from forest fires? How many acres of forest have burned in the past several years because the Sierra Club a$$holes refuses to let us on the land to take care of it? How many homes in California near forests have to burn down and how many people have to be killed before we figure out that logging and fire roads are necessary to CONTAIN forest fires? The next time there is a forest fire we should hog-tie all the Sierra Clubbers and throw them in it.

 | AryanDan (2) 09/08/2004 | The environment must be protected. I suggest a pollution tax. We can not allow corporations to just do what they want and not clean up after themselves. The military has a real bad record of destroying the environment. Pollution is not just an issue for plants and animals, people are at stake. The Soviets ruined Russia so bad that millions of babies have been born with birth defects. Corporations pass the buck off on others, usually the taxpayers. And the cost is the health of our children, something that YOU will have to pay for the rest of your life. We have to stop the pollution in the first place. Businesses won't stop on their own, they just don't care about you or your kids.
