03/22/2005 | The Swift-Boat ads seemed to play a significant role in the '04 election. Kerry thought he had to run on the strong-defense role-image. So, he relied on his Vietnam war record to establish with the voters his ability to be tough with an enemy. The Bush camp already had the favor in the popular eye with middle-America and did not have to sway public opinion on the issue. But, with the media always proclaiming a close race, there were some who feared Kerry might win and decided to influence the election by challenging Kerry's heroism. Their ads said he was a liar, a coward, a traitor, and would make a horrendous Commander-in-Chief. The ads were successful in placing doubt in the voter's minds. Although both sides actually had swift-boat ads promoting or detracting each side, the net gain went against Kerry. Whatever the actual truth was in the matter of the swift-boat stories, the result was Bush won.

10/23/2004 | The Swift Boat ads did heavy damage to Kerry's image as a war hero. Such a perception didn't look good on Bush, who never went to Vietnam. Their team really managed to turn it around on Kerry. There's a reason why Bush is still so competitive at this point. They have a rapid fire political operation that takes no prisoners. Kerry didn't respond as quick as he should of to these ads and it cost him a little. Not much though.

10/23/2004 | The most helpful thing for W. was definetely the swift boats ads. One of the many reasons why Kerry is going nowhere on November 2nd.
