For such a small city I think it's brilliant that Portland keeps expanding it's Mass transit options. Trains go just about everywhere between the Airport, downtown, Washington Park and Beaverton and many other suburbs. It has been recently expanded to North Portland with a proposed expansion to Clackamas. If only Seattle could learn from this. My only complaint is they should have built the light rail tracks underground in downtown Portland as subway stations. The trains go very slow through downtown. Otherwise Bravo ! and keep up the good work !

Portland TriMet remains my favorite public transportation system. I almost want to live there someday just to enjoy it. Looks brand new, very clean, minimal riff-raff, and it will take you right to the Trailblazer games and even directly to the airport.

Trimet used to be a reliable affordable and loyal system but has been progressively becoming more and more of a pain to deal with. The bus drivers are rude and hardly ever show up on time (meaning more than ten minutes late than scheduled) frequently busses don't show up at all, get into accidents, break down, or due to poor driving injure other riders. While quality of service drops the fair seems to be raised every few months. Needs much improvement!

It isn't the quickest system and there definitely arn't enough buses to go around in the suburbs efficiently. It took longer for me to ride transit than it did to take a taxi back to the hotel I was staying at.

Absolutely the ideal light rail system for the nation. The Tri-Met goes all across the city and surrounding parks, and it's remarkably fast (except through downtown), reliable, and affordable.

Portland's mass transit system has been viewed as an example both nationwide, and around the world as standard from which to design other systems around. The downtown core has two one way streets that are almost exclusively designed for bus use. All buses, with some minor exceptions flow in and out of the Fareless Square area of this downtown hub. With three light rail lines (and a fourth in the planning stages), plus the new Portland Streetcar, area residents will be offered a number of convenient options for traversing the Portland area. Currently, light rail extends in three directions throughout the city and into Portlands suburbs, with an additional line traveling directly to and from Portland International Airport. By the end of this decade, a fourth light rail line will connect another major suburban area and the Portland Streetcar will likely have two new extensions that connect the downtown core with thousands of new, upscale residences on the edge of the central city. There are approximately 7,500 park-and-ride spaces conveniently situated alongside area rail lines, and an expansive free transit district that covers both downtown and the Rose Quarter, making light rail even more enticing.
