Bank of America 1

I had an a account with Bank of America for 8 years. I lost my job and was unemployed for 16 months. Of course, my life began to fall apart. I had always been on time with deposits etc.. and never overdrafted on my account. B of A thought it would be fun to start screwing with my life and charged me overdraft fee after overdraft fee. I finally straightened that out. A year later I went into a branch to deposit $7K and they turned me away. Then I found they had been charging me maint. fees for a savings account that had a positive balance. They ended up taking all of the money out of the account. I went to Wachovia Bank and gave them my business. My fiance is an attorney and has her accounts with B of A (personal and business accounts). Well, that's going to change very soon,. She plans to pull EVERYTHING from B of A.
They're to busy concentrating their efforts on getting the American Taxpayers money in order to fund the huge ass bonuses for their CEO's. Thief assholes!!!
B of A sucks!!!

I cannot stand BOA. They are terrible. They have a terrible online account management system that is designed to cause you delays that result in fees.

I cannot be a customer with them any longer. I should have listened to my father, who was not willing to recommend them from a previous
experience he had with them.

I signed up for the vanity ATM card and the Keep the Change program, which I hardly use anyway. I'm putting on my big girl pants and getting an ugly ATM card from a bank who will treat me right.

Screw these guys.

This bank is highly NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!! They say-no hidden fees. I just was about to be overdrafted and deposited some money to avoid it, but didn't know that was to late and right after I deposited that money they already charged me twice $35.00 each time, what caused another charges . I sent out the checks to pay my bills and posted them with the certain data to not let them go before I have enough money on my account, but nobody cares of that and those check were cleared before I dated them, so it caused another overdraft charges etc.Guys this is the way how this bank make extra money!!!!! Don't go with this bank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im gonna put this as simple as possible.

Crooks. Why?

- I had an account for 2 years whithin those years i received 2 letters from them telling me they had lost
a court case in which they were caught cheating people and now they were being forced to inform
Their customers about this.

- savings account interest earned is a fraction of 1 percent compared to other banks that offer 4 percent.

-customer service treats you nicelybut you get nothing resolved with them.
-- they are also very poorly trained

-one time a customer service rep. created me an extra checkings account without telling me.

- their overdraft fees are ridiculous and you can get up to 10 $35 OD fees per day. I have paid them 245 dollars in OD fees.

-online payments take forever to post and this just creates a mess if you want to keep track of what you have paid.

-although i know of more things that are wrong with BAC, i've only posted the ones that directly affected me.

I know you will have these same kind of issues with other banks, but it is very easy to find a bank that is a lesser evil - try local bank for a change.

I have been banking with BOA for 6 years now and I have not had any problems until I moved from Washington State to California. If you have an account with WA or ID and want to bank in another State, you will spend a lot of time at the teller to get your cash this is because Washington and Idaho are on two different systems. I closed my WA account and opened a CA account and all was well until I moved to Texas this year. I really did not have an issue until I misplaced my ATM card. I went to the TX branch with my State ID and US Passport to withdraw $200. The teller and the manager stated that I cannot withdraw from my account until I pin verify. Long story short, after spending 45 minutes at the bank they were able to retrieve my ATM number on their system and I pin verified my account. I could not locate my ATM card and decided to call BOA customer service to cancel my card and send me a replacement. I told them that I need my replacement as soon as possible so I can withdraw funds from the accounts for my usage. The BOA agent told me that my card will be send via rush mail and I should receive it in two business days. I waited 3 business days and no card was coming and decided to call again and the strange thing happened; The BOA agent told me that my rush request was rejected and the card will arrive after 5 to 7 business days. Now I cannot withdraw money from my account and I have to wait almost two weeks. I don't understand if BOA really cares about their customers. I have decided to open a TX account and transfer my funds from CA to new TX account and withdraw all funds from the new TX account and lastly close both accounts. I have a Chase account and in my opinion they are the best bank out there. I hope people think twice before they bank with BOA. They have lots of fees, they change agreements often and you end up paying fees. Just watch out guys.

I am a current Bank of America account holder, for the time being. Thanks to their, so called, "customer service" today i experienced the most hellacious period of time in my life. Let me begin by telling you that i made an error while filing my income tax return. Errently i entered the wrong account number into the automatic deposit field. I received a call from a Bank of America associate who informed me that the person who's account it did go into called and let them know that the money was not his. Eagerly i called the IRS ,collected all the information i needed, and proceeded to call the Bank of America customer service depeartment. Once i had given all the appropriate information so the man who we'll refer to as "small one" could access my account i told the tale of my discouraging typing skills. In a rather uninpiring tone he told me my only option was to have him fill out a service request that would take 7-10 days to investigate. Confused by the length of time it would take to figure this out i asked how it could take so long when i had spoken to IRS, knew the account it was deposited into, and informed them that the other customer had called and told the bank the money did not belong to him. He swiftly and very rudely responded with the following "listen, i am choosing to help you with this i could just as easily not do this for you." At this point i hit the brakes. I was under ther impression that this was his job.... not his choice. Im quite surprised that Bank of America pays its employees to disrespect, talk down to, and if i may be so bold bitch out their long time account holders and people who trust them with their hard earned money in a time when they need their help the most.

STAY AWAY FROM B of A !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My second mortgage was closed without notice.

I was putting a boat load of extra principal payments in at the time figuring if I got in trouble I could just draw some out.

I paid about $6,000.00 extra over 6 months to get my balance down as fast as I could. Then WHAM, no credit. And no notice for over a week!

This was over 8 months ago, so this review is not a knee jerk reaction. It's been 8 months and I'm still pissed off and want to tell the WORLD to keep their business away from this bank.

I have to say I don't hate them but I don't love them either. There's all these LiveChat service, e-mail, and a bunch of different phone numbers you can call but all those numbers are confusing me. I sent an e-mail to Bank of America and ask them what number I should call to stop my dispute and they give me three different numbers to call. I just find out which number is correct but turns out they're closed already. Why can't you guys have less phone numbers and more people that can actually help you solve the problem?

Bank of America stole my money - This weekend when I made a Bank of America deposit for a client purchase that I needed to make today the ATM machine shutdown directly after it took the cash from me. I called customer service right away with the ATM machine number 95-32-4059/NSB-S. I was told the account would immediately be credited for the amount of the deposit and after the investigation if it was determined that I did not make the deposit the account would be charged back for the amount. Of course the account was never credited which puts my clients job on hold awaiting the purchase of equipment, which should of been purchased today. Maybe I'm wrong but if I took a large sum of money from someone, lost it, then told you It may take me some time for me to track it down - that someone would probably go to the police. I would probably be arrested for theft. What makes Bank of America above the law. This is just a long line of problems I have had with this bank.

Skank of America receives award from this website as one of the best banks????????? Pity the poor boob who is looking for a good bank and only looks as far this rating. I banked with them for years due to lethargy (going to the trouble of changing direct deposits and debits). When I heard about their bailout from our tax dollars, I got off my lazy bum and changed to a local bank. I certainly had problems with them through the years (trying to close a savings account took 3 trips to the local branch and the employees were rude) but, hey, it is a lot of trouble to change banks. Now I am contibuting to my local economy, my new on-line bill pay beats the Skanks hands down, and I've read all horrible reviews. The Skank bought my daughter's home loan and, when they went to Skank for a refi, no prob, pre-approved. They paid the $500.00 for an appraisal (redundable if no refi takes place), the appraisal went great as expected, then the Skank turned them down citing they don't refi doublewides no matter what the land and home appraise for. Oh yeah, the Skank was kidding about refunding the appraisal fee, they must have misunderstood. Why is this website (RIA) advertising Skank of America as one of the top 3?

I could pretty much describe B of A with a single word: FEES. Not just the ones you expect, but fees for almost anything you can possibly think of. I completely understand that they need to make money somehow but they just take it way to far by gouging you for every last cent they can squeeze out of you before you cry foul and stop doing business with them. If that isn't enough to encourage you to explore your options, their customer service is absolutely horrible and trying to get them to help you out with anything is nearly impossible. Not only are they unwilling to be helpful, it almost seems as if they take pleasure in telling you they can't or won't help you. There are plenty of banks out there competing for your money and I've taken advantage of that and have opted to do business elsewhere.

The worst bank EVER!!!! If you would like for your bank to take out random fees for no reason... bank with this place. I started to notice $10 charges here and there that where taken out, I called and customer services said it was over draft a over draft protection fee...??? I WAS NOT OVER DRAFTED!!! They take 3 full business days to show a money transfer, other banks show right away... that's the point in a transfer! That means they earn interest on that money for at least two days before they put it in your account! The people are rude and don't know what they are talking about! Customer be ware!!!! you have a better chance of keeping your money if you had a thief watch over it than you do with bank of America. PLEASE TELL EVERY ONE YOU KNOW!!!! DO NOT BANK WITH THEM! I had such a terrible experience I closed my accounts and actually told the company I work for what they did to me and they closed there corporate accounts!!! Bank of America lost a nation wide company... 300+ offices closed all accounts and we switches to another bank..... Sorry B of A... Should have worked with your clients!!!

Bank of America (ameriKa) is not even worth one star! I only hope that one day the people of this country will be their priority, not all the political crooks that don't give a hoot about us! Rather than help someone from drowning, they will just throw you a load of bricks and steal your property. Oh yeah.. what ever happened to frigg'n COUNTRYWIDE?, they ARE B of A! Well, I tried to rate them without any stars, but the system will not let me.... so the one star rating that I am giving is not correct, they are waaay less than terrible in my, and so many others hearts and minds. Well, that's my opinion anyway..

Tips on loan modification.

Since I had to rate them, I give them 1 star, but they don't deserve it, they are worse then terrible they are the worst ever bank I have dealt with. I wish they never got bailed out of their bankruptcy, they have done no good,

I am in a financial struggle, going through hardship like so many others are. I have been faithful in my payments with them, and now that I have less income, they denied me at the home retention dept, and now that they denied me my house has gone into foreclosure, which on Jan 19 2010 it goes up for auction, and I have been trying everything to postpone my foreclosure or stop it, and this lady was so rude, when I talk to her at the foreclosure dept, she said that I had to go through the home retention dept. and I told her I have 3 x now and got denied, she said well I can't postpone it unless you reinstate your loan, then why would i need you to postpone it, which means they want me to pay my late fees, lawyer fees, and my fees that I am behind.

So they truly do not want to work with you, they actually make money off of your foreclosures through the tarp program, where lovely Obama has bailed them out, no not the home owners the crooked banks. But no small business if they go into bankruptcy do they get bailed out by our President, no just the crooks, the banks.

I just found out that if you can hook up with the hope line, and talk to a counselor there, and then do a phone conference with Bank of America, then Bank of America might be more helpful to do a loan modification with you but for me I have been waiting for the phone conference and it has not happened yet, so don't give up, just keep persistent you deserve to keep your house.

I pray that us as customers will one day, have the law on our side, and not the crooks.

If anyone has any suggestions for me to saving my house please let me know thank you.

Bank of America is a terrible bank. They exploit poor college students. My friend was fined over $600 in fees for not even 4 transactions under 5 dollars over the limit. They attempted to charge him $900 in fees but I helped him fight it and then they recoiled and called them "bank errors." Bank of America steals, the service sucks, and they are all greedy. The bank manager lied and told us we were not going to be feed because I deposited $650 in the account. Not only is that money gone now because the bank stole it, but then the next day they charged another fee. Wells Fargo is such a better bank, they would never do this. I got him to switch to Wells Fargo.

Ever thought of using a 0% interest balance transfer to your BoA business card account?

-- Please note that Bank of America imposes a fictional Cash Advance in the amount of your balance transfer fee (3% percent of the transferred amount).

-- If you call about it, they tell you it can be removed only if you pay the exact dollar and cent amount of the fictional cash advance. Therefore, they break the new Obama law of automatically applying payments to higher-interest balances first!

-- If you follow their instructions and pay the exact dollar and cent amount, your "cash advance" will still not disappear. If you call, they will explain you that the bank needs three months or two additional billing cycles to "process" your payment, during which time they will keep collecting 24.24% interest from you of course.

Absolutley the worst customer service ever. I was laid off last year and have enough reserves for maybe 4-6 months. I am trying to get a TEMPORARY cut in my payments. TEMPORARY! I am trying to get them to cut my payments in half for maybe 8-12 months, until I can get another job. If they do that, I have enough reserves to last (barring and disasters) that long. I want to pay my bills, I'm not asking for a refi or loan modification, just a break!

Not happening! I have spent hours on the phone, talked to up too 5 different departments spanning at least 2 continents and 4 cities in one phone call and can't even get them to agree to anything! I have even been transferred to departments suddenly w/o notice that had nothing to do with my issue!

They are the worst. Do not do business with them ever for any reason.

First off. I'm not one of those people who didn't pay attention and ended up with fees. I generally don't pay fees unless the transaction yields more than I lose in fees. Banks pay me, not the other way around.

Fees are the bread and butter of the banking industry. I always make sure to keep on top of things in order to not pay fees.

Bank of America is clearly one of the banks that has no shame in charging people every conceivable fee. It's one of those banks that will allow a snowball effect of fees, making a bad situation worse for the "customer."

I requested that my account be closed and they said they would send a check. No biggie. A week later I called and nothing had been done. The customer service representative said that the amount was too much for over the phone and that I would have to go to a notary public and have a letter requesting the funds notarized and sent to Florida.

They suggested I transfer all the money to my external account. Then I found that there was a $3.00 transfer fee (the account was started with Homestreet Bank, which was apparently bought by BofA). This will lead to a $35.00 overdraft fee... for a three dollar overdraft (the transfer fee).

No one would work with me to fix it or make it right.

Bottom line: if you are interested in a bank concerned with its customer's needs, don't go with BofA! I have plenty of other banks that seem to care about relationships rather than squeezing money from folks who are already having a tough time.

BOA recently closed my credit card account ??

My credit report is spotless without even one little ding or late payment.

BOA was surely pissed that after I accepted their credit card offer last year with a $10K limit and 0% interest for one year, I took $10K out of the card and made the minimum payments on their interest free loan for a year. I was never late so they could not default me out of the promotion rate. When the teaser rate expired after a year and their 19.99% rate kicked in, I paid the card off in full.

Then a couple of weeks later they closed my account... and beat me to it!! Now my feelings are hurt :( Bwahahaha...

BOA and CitiBank zero in on folks on the average to lower end of the creditworthy scale. If anyone makes a late payment that is even a day late, then cha-ching for BOA, because you get nailed with late fees and a high default interest rate. These days even folks with good credit are getting snagged, so they try to bait them in with the teaser rates.

But I gladly took their teaser rate loan while going through a divorce, and it came in handy during a short term cash flow problem. So if you know you can pay off these teaser offers the higher interest fees, then by all means take advantage of these offers.

BOA was probably pissed because I am paying down on one of their cards at a set rate of 5.9%. When my low interest Pulaski Bank card was bought by BOA, they gave me the option of taking their higher rate or closing my account. I closed it. Since they bought the account, they had to eat it and continue allowing me to pay down the account at the prior terms and interest rate.

These banks are nuts if they think they can get away with charging rates of 19% and higher to folks with good credit.

If you have good credit stay away from the likes of BOA and CitiBank and Sears cards. Sears nailed my mother for over 25% interest for being a few days late a couple of times, then they keep raising her credit limit in an attempt to continue on this gravy train. I am going to have to pay that off for her when I can and close that account for good.

USAA and other banks and credit unions offer much better terms to customers with good credit. My USAA credit card is only charge 8.75% interest, and another card I have is 11%. And USAA never gave me any hassle if a payment was a few days late. If you are just one day late on BOA or any other card... be ready to cough up $39 and possibly choke down an interest rate increase.

TIP: Best way to make sure you never fall into a late fee trap is to auto debit your credit card payments, and make it payable on the date the statement is made, not the last day the payment is due. The few cents of savings account interest some fools would advocate is saved by paying your bills on the last day is really not worth the hassle of one late payment.

BTW, the new changes forced upon the credit card company's to protect consumers serves them right. The argument that they are simply going to pass this cost to all the consumers is baloney. At least not to the consumers with good credit, anyway.

If you are running a busines and using a strategy that is raking in a lot of money and the gov't feels that is unfair trade practice and yanks that away from you, that does not mean you can simply raise your rates to your good customers to make up for that without them taking a walk to a competitor. Not as long as there are competitors who did not make the same mistakes you did and who are now much more competive than you. So your fortunes go down and sayonara to your fat managment bonuses, and the competitors fortunes goes up.

There are banks such as USAA which did not rely upon these predatory practices to remain financially sound, and which will continue to offer a lower cost alternative to the bottom feeding credit card companies who are struggling to find creative ways around these new credit card regulations.

I do all of my banking, including all of my credit card business, with BOA, and I would have rated BOA a 5 prior to the 2009 xmas shopping season -- which is when BOA's customer service department decided to make a Scrooge out of me.

Long story short: multiple mistakes, lapses in communication, and a hair-trigger fraud detection service on BOA's end are holding up delivery of my xmas presents until 2010. The several hours I spent being bounced around from customer service rep to customer service rep weren't enough to remedy the problem.

In fairness, aside from its less-than-perfect customer service department, BOA does have a lot to offer: competitive APRs; free checking; online banking services (including what's proven to be idiot-proof bill payment, etc.) that are widely considered to be second to none; a nice rewards program; etc.

Used to have my mortage with Wells Fargo with no problems. Then I refinanced and Bank of America bought the mortage.

My first bill still hasn't come in the mail. I called, and after way too many menus and waiting, find out they can't print another one until it is almost due. The agent told me they could take my payment over the phone for $20 (what a rip). Then they hung up on me.

Bank of America delivers the absolute worst customer service imaginable. After 60 calls, 5 faxes, and 3 emails a day I still did not get anywhere. It took 3 calls to executive customer service representatives to finally get anywhere. After 3 months of daily contact attempts I finally go through, and the final resolution was incorrect. Two months later I am still waiting to hear back from someone that can help.

Absolutely avoid this company at any cost. I was forced through them after they bought my mortgage from Countrywide and will never, never, ever, work with them again.

I had a Countrywide mortgage, now I'm forced to work w/ BoA now since they took over my mortgage.
I have heard nothing but bad news from BoA for years. High fees, terrible service, greedy co.
I want to make an extra payment online, like I used to be able to with Countrywide, and I can't now because
I have BOA.

I tried online and they force you to pay the full amount first then you can apply additional.
I can't do that because I already have auto withdrawal. So, now there is no way to make an extra payment.
I was told there is a $15.00 fee if you pay over the phone. So, now I have to go into a branch to pay and hope
they don't screw it up or simply steal the money.

It's terrible. I've avoided BOA for years and now I'm forced
to deal with this evil empire.

If you are unfortunate enough to need to ask a question about your accounts, you will spend at least 45 minutes on hold, be transferred from department to department and end up basically just giving up because no one wants to help you. They just want to transfer you to another department. We have over 10 bank accounts and a mortgage transferred from Countrywide and still we get NO customer service. I would not recommend BofA to my worst enemy and I'm sure we will be changing banks. I'm glad the bank use the Stimulus bail out money wisely! Bonuses to executives and apparently pay cuts for customer service reps.......either that or they are hiring the cheapest labor they can get to man their phones. They suck!

As other people have said on this site, 1 star is too many.

1. ) I opened an account October 20th, and gotten a temporary ATM card - Expiry date August 2013. Nobody told me that the card, contrary to what it says on the front, expires after 30 days. Strike 1.

2. ) Then I made a wire transfer to my landlord on November 10, using 3 day service. I tried to be early, rent is only due on Nov 15th. Wire was returned on the Nov 16th. Strike 2.

3.) My online banking stopped working, kept getting a message try again later. Eventually I phoned support, and they said that it was closed down because I was accessing the account from a country other than the United States?! Then I got it: Bank of "AMERICA" - no foreigners. The lady then reopened the access. I also enquired as to why my wire transfer in 2.) above was returned -she couldn't find out, and transferred me to a different hep desk. I was cut off in the process, but redialled. Then I got through to somebody, but he refused to help me, because I answered a security question incorrectly. He refused to tell me which question, he also refused to tell me how else I could pay my landlord. Strike 3.

4.) My landlord then suggested that I pay him using bill-pay. I then arranged a bill-pay transaction, working with a customer representative to make sure that I get it right this time. This was sent back by the bank, as well as another bill-pay I did on the same day. Reason: "Suspected fraudulent transactions". They claim to have left voice messages on my cellphone, but I can't get to them because I cannot top up my cell phone account because my debit card (1. above) is not working any more. They also claim to have sent me e-mail(s), which is the only e-mail I have not received on my g-mail account in the 2 years I have been using it. I then gave them my South African cellphone for future use. Strikes 4 & 5.

5.) In the meantime my landlord banked the paper check I gave earlier as rental deposit. BoA returned it as "check not recognized or found at Bank of America", and charged him $20 for lying to him. He is now warning me about committing felonies. STRIKE 6.

6.) I then got another representative, (after several *international* calls) to find out why the wire transfer in 3.) didn't go through. It transpired that it was also suspected of being a fraudulent transaction, and was therefor reversed. Once again, it seems that my e-mail was not working..... This person then helped me through setting up wire transfers to pay my landlord and the other payment referred to above. But because this had now dragged on for so long, I needed to make next business day transfers, costing me $10 per transaction. BoA doesn't realise the rest of the world also has cellphones, so their SafePass or whatever key, can only be sent to an American cellphone, which I cannot get to because of 1.) above. So this means that I have had to do the transfers a $1000 at a time, costing ME $70 in bank fees, all because the bank didn't execute my transactions. Strike 7.

7.) I also need to transfer money to South Africa for my day-to-day living expenses. Because of the inability to text internationally, this also has to be done $1000 a transaction, only this time the fees are $35, on top of a very bad forex rate. And to top it off, everytime the rate that I get in SA, is less than the rate quoted me. In the last instance about $30 on $2000. Strike 8.

8.) In trying to get the above information, amongst others I tried to get hold of the lady with whom I opened the account in Alpharetta street, Roswell. Three voice mail messages and an e-mail later, I have yet to have the courtesy of a reply. Strike 9.

9.) Earlier this week I transferred $4000 more dollars to South Africa. Once again, my access to internet banking has been closed down. I have been told that somebody made a "note" against my account, and gave me a number to phone - three voice message and still no response. I ASSUME they are again suspecting fraudulent transactions, and once again are not using my e-mail, nor are they using my SA telephone number which I left after the mess in step 4. ironically the woman I gave the number to, checked it about 4 times to make sure she got it right. Why aren't they using it? Strike 10 & 11.

10.) In the meantime I haven't been able to book my next set of plane tickets to the US because my card has expired, which is what is making it necessary for me to transfer these large sums through to South Africa at their exorbitant fees. I have also not been able to switch on my utilities, because the card is not working.

11.) I have tried to top up my phone with AT&T using on-line check transfer, that also is not working. Strike 12.

12.) Lastly, I come from a supposedly 3rd world country. Not only is the money transfer functionality at BoA vastly inferior and more expensive, what they have they cannot get working.

Branch 0318-0000-176 on River St, Santa Cruz, CA. is horrible. Sadly it reflects exactly how Bank of America treats its clients. I told the manager I wanted to close my account because Bank of America makes things harder to do than if I just didn't have a bank account with them. The manager told me I had to leave and she was going to call the police. When I said I have every right to close my account she called the police and had them escort me off the premises. I am still working with Bank of America to close the account, but it is not easy. They aren't letting me.

I started a BOA account over 6 months ago. Things have been fine every time I've needed to go inside the bank BUT when I need to call BOA the other person on the other end always seems to have a bad attitude.
Anyway, besides that, my main problem isn't having to deal with cranky customer service people, its having to recover from their overdraft fees! I don't disagree to an overdraft fee if someone is over, but what I do disagree with unethical business! 400 dollars in just FEES ALONE!! In ONE day BOA thought that I owed them 140 dollars in fees alone. The fees kept piling up and now its so high it will take me a while to recover from that loss!
Like I said I don't disagree with a fee when someone goes over, but I do disagree with robbery! I, in no way, ever should have owed 400 dollars in just fees for being over 120 dollars, and no the 400 dollars is not including the amount that was over. This is JUST the costs of FEES! I had a surprise bill that cost me almost 400 dollars where I had to pay it right then. I knew I was going to be over a little because of my problem, but usually a bank will charge a one time fee. No other bank, to my knowledge, charges a 35 daily fee! Not only was there a daily fee of 35 dollars, they added other fees that almost doubled the daily fee.
Now that I look back there is about an extra monthly 60 dollar loss in just fees even if I wasn't over my limit! I can not afford to loose money! It is already a tough market and I have been doing my best to recover my negative economic situation! BOA are thieves and I am ending my account ASAP!!! I had been paid less than five days ago today. I am ALREADY over drafted and I spent 320 dollars since payday! I deposit over a grand a paycheck!! Where did my paycheck go?? BOA took it! DON'T BANK WITH BANK OF AMERICA!!!

For all those sanctimonious perfect people that like to complain about us whiners here is a story for you.

I had 2 accounts with Countywide bank that got switch to BOA. One of these was a money market and the other a CD. That switch happened months ago and I had no problems until I got a $10 service fee on the money market account this month. Never mind that I have never made a withdrawal on this account. Although I did carry a small balance through Countrywide this was permitted. Mind you I understand the concept of service fees but I never received any notification the protocols had changed.

Further more the CD had come due and renewed at a lousy interest rate. I never received a maturity notification of the CD and didn't receive the renewal notice until 3 weeks after it had happened.

After contacting BOA I got the situations corrected which only tells me that they were at fault. The $10 service fee was refunded and they allowed me to cash the CD without penalty.
My point here is that BOA neglected to send any notifications of changes in policy or renewal. Both of which cost their customers money and profit themselves. I expect the bean counters have figured how many people will just let it slide so they can rake in the cash.

Now I figure the "Better than everyone else idiots" would say that I should have known when that CD was due and they are probably correct but sometimes life gets in the way of the details. After all, isn't that what a maturity notice is for? To let people know just in case they haven't been keeping track.

So all of you magniloquent morons can get off your soap boxes and realize that not everyone is that far beneath you. Especially the bombastic bonehead that doesn't think we have a good understanding of the English language. I guess since you are so elevated in your communication skills I don't need to point out "bombastic" is an adjective meaning pompous!

The checking account and savings I have with them is not bad but there credit card is terrible. Just tons of fine print that doesn't make any sense!!!!! DON"T GET AN ACCOUNT YOU'LL REGRET IT

I am so upset with this credit card!!!!!!!! I had a payment that my mother gave from her account of 300 dollars to pay my credit card account and her check bounced. Your terms and agreements cashed the check against my account as a cash advance and I am now paying 20% interested on a that payment of 300 dollars against my own card???!!??!?!?!. That's not counting all of the fees associated with the transaction, late fee and returned check fee. Bank of america this is disgraceful. I have never heard of such a thing. You must only care about screwing loyal customers. I have had this account and payed faithfully for the past five years. I can't wait to pay off this card and move all of my accounts to chase. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! On the phone with your people all day on Saturday. The whole experience has left such a bitter taste in my mouth. Change your terms and agreements!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, the person who said that people are whining about fees. Obviously, BOA has not gotten you yet. I switched to BOA in 2003 when I was deployed due to having issues getting my previous bank on the line during the 15 minute allotted time for phone calls. I got my bank card and had no issues for a while. That was until I got a car loan from them. The money has always been in my account early to pay my loan. Due to bank policies of not taking the money on the weekend I was being charged fees. So, to make that issue go away I called the loans department and the manager gave me the appropriate information to set up an allotment. Two months after I initially started the allotment everything was fine then all of a sudden I go to make a purchase at the grocery store and get a decline. There I was seven months pregnant and with a four year old in tow. How embarrassing since I know there should be money in my account. So, I called the bank, and I’ll be darned BOA has received the allotment and taken a second payment as well. I call the bank and was promptly told that it would take up to 5-7 days to get my money back; meanwhile I'm getting charged overdraft fees for something that was totally the banks fault. Then the teller had the nerve to ask me to just stop the allotment and let them go in and take the payment. I think not since that was the reason why I started the allotment in the first place, because they wouldn’t take the money on time. Then recently, BOA sends me a letter saying they changed my account number. I can't change an allotment after the 20th of the month so the payment was received to the old account number. I asked if there was anything I should do to change the allotment and they said no they had an agreement with DFAS and so I did nothing. Three months later I get a letter saying they have not received any of the last three payments. Mind you I have never received a loan bill up until this time. Not one. I contact the bank to try to track down the money. No one can give me and answer where the money is, and after being hung up on by a bank teller, I asked to speak with the bank manager. The manager told me they did not receive the money and that I should try to trace it. In the process of me tracing the money through my finance servicing agency, BOA sends me a certified letter saying they are about to collect for missed payments and put negative remarks on my credit report. I checked with my finance and they told me that the money was received by BOA and they did not return the money to DFAS. I call BOA back and tell them this information and they still said they didn't know where the money was. Meanwhile, I'm getting charged late fees and receiving threatening letters. Finally, without any notice I called to check all of my accounts one day and the bill was paid and the account posted dates were the original dates the allotment was supposed to be received. Confused, I then called BOA and no one could tell me where the money was all of this time, who applied it to my account, what they would do to fix my credit report and the fees accumulated, if it caused my interest rate to increase and no one even apologized to the drama they put me through for three months strait. This bank is horrific, I would never recommend it to anyone. One star is not low enough, they should get 1/4 star. I'm switching to USAA.

Horrible, horrible bank.
My fiance has a checking account with them and recently racked up some overdraft fees. When she went in to find out the amount it was much larger than it should've been. The girl told her that they had raised to overdraft fees without telling their customers. She also recommended that my fiance close her account because BoA is just stealing from her. She admitted that they purposely take longer than normal to notify you of overdrafts so that you will accumulate more charges. The banker said she deals with 3 or 4 of these situations a day due to the way the bank tries to rip off customers. When your own employees are telling customers that you are trying to steal from them and that they should get out as soon as possible its a really bad sign.

Everyone should switch to another bank, let's show them they can't get away with what they are doing. It's disturbing that this bank is not being investigated for shady business practices

First I have to say that for all of my trouble, I have spoken with some very nice and understanding customer service reps. I guess they also know that their product is poor and they must be used to dealing with complaints.
I opened up an account b/c I thought it was going to be a relatively simple and accessible place to put my money.
Wrong.
I opened an account online, but then when I tried to use my new, flashy card there was no pin # sent with it (which you need in order to activate it). When I went to the branch to ask for a pin, they had no recollection of my account because it was opened online. I then had to open a NEW account and spoke with a fairly disgruntled BofA worker, who hated his bank. This should have been my first clue.
It's clear that though it's a bank of AMERICA, there is limited communication between banks. Certain branches won't speak to other branches and it takes 5-7 business days for anything to be done.
On my online account, I had an overdraft, which was partially my fault. Because it was my first overdraft, they refunded it. Nice enough, thank you.
Then, the customer service rep told me i had 3 days to deposit money so that I wouldn't get another charge. My friend deposited money for me (because it's impossible to do online or via the phone and because there were no BofA's in the state I was in). She deposited cash, no problem.
The next day, I see that I have 3 more overdraft fees. The customer service rep was wrong, and in fact those charges were due to me. She was actually talking about the OTHER overdraft fees I would get if I didn't pay off the first overdraft fees.
Fine, I said. I'm not in a state where I can deposit money, but can my parents do it in NY? Sure, they said...as long as the money's in by 6pm on the business day you will get no more charges.
False.
They failed to mention that if you deposit cash or check in a bank account that is not in the state where you opened the account, it takes 2 business days to "clear".
It's cash, I said. That's the whole point. It doesn't need to clear. I said that's why you're a corporate identity - so all your branches can communicate. I didn't open a Bank of California account - it's called Bank of America.
The last rep i talked to heard my frustration and quickly resolved the matter, after i paid over $120 to them in fees. Apparently that was enough money to make off an unsuspecting customer. I closed my account immediately, citing my reasons for closing were because of "uniformed fees, unclear communication and frustration". The woman apologized and then credited one overdraft fee to my account.
When closing the account, i asked if i could receive the $5 that would be left in the account. They said only if you go to the branch where you opened the account, in person. Otherwise I would have to forfeit the money.
At that point, I was just ready to be done with them and relinquished my poor 5 bucks. I failed to ask if they wanted to shirt off my back...
Needless to say, I will never deal with this bank again. They are not for the working man....sorry if you've had a similar experience- warn your friends about this archaic financial institution!!

I fucking hate this bank. They charged me 6($35) overdraft fees and apparently there was nothing i could do. If i didn't pay soon enough they would continue to charge me daily. I payed the amount that was due that very same day and found that the next day they had charged me yet ANOTHER overdraft fee. I was so pissed i cried, and besides that overdraft fee the day after that i saw i was charged ANOTHER overdraft fee. I tried listening to their reasoning and it seems that they are trying to come up with ANY reason to keep charging its members. I do hope all the members that have been through this, to close their accounts, so that hopefully BoA will put more effort into caring about their account holders. SCREW BANK OF AMERICA!

I have had nothing but great experiences with Bank of America in the whole four years I have banked with them. I have a checking account, a savings account, and a credit card with Bank of America, and I have needed to call customer service many times to resolve issues, ask advice, etc. and I have always been listened to politely and helped in a timely fashion.

It strikes me that almost every single "1-Star" review:

A: Exhibits a weak grasp on the english language at best.
B: Feels like it was written by a bratty teenager who's mom stopped giving them allowance.
C: Tells stories about people who chose to ignore the basic premise of living within their means.

If a bank manager actually tells you to go fuck yourself, yeah, go ahead and switch banks. If they get frustrated with you because you want a free lunch though, who can blame them.

Maybe I've just been lucky, or maybe I just take better care of my finances than some of the bozos on this website, but I have moved all my financial dealings into Bank of America because I have received such good service from them.

If you want them to be a "good" bank. Be a "good" customer. That means paying fees when you violate their agreements.

I cannot believe Bank of America will stay in business too much longer with their approach to shafting their good customers.

I have a line of credit with them that I have always paid on time and always paid over the minimum. A few months ago they reduced the line (I didn't care since I hadn't made a draws on it in over a year and had no intentions to do so), and they cited one reason was my payment history. When I called them, they told me that was a mistake in their letter and they are "considering" changing the letter and they admitted that I had NEVER made a late payment.

Just three days ago I received a new letter from them that they are changing my fixed rate to a variable rate. I called them and told them they can't change a fixed rate loan and they informed me that the "fine print" says they can if they have a business purpose. Well their only business purpose is their own mismanagement and I cannot believe that they are going after their good customers who have honored their agreements. They apparantly have no honor. Since the prime rate is at the lowest its been in 50 years, and the predictions are that it will go up aggressively, anyone who they changed to a variable rate stands a 100% chance of their rate increasing.

I will never do business with them again.

I recently opened an account online through Bank of America. I decided on bank of america since they had a red sox debit card and I am a diehard fan. Well i entered all my info and received an email saying that they would require more information and to call them at such and such number. I called and gave the very nice representative every answer he asked for and followed all the standard procedure. He said that I passed the security check and I would be receiving further info in the mail. Sure enough i received 3 letters in the mail, 1 was my new PIN, 1 was new account instructions and account numbers and 1 was a welcome packet. I got my paycheck ready and went to the bank yesterday and deposited the check as my first deposit. Since it was a Bank of America check the teller explained that it would be ready by midnight that night. That worked out great for me! So this morning I went into my local branch (a separate branch than the one I went into yesterday) and tried to withdraw some cash. Now I realize that I live in a wealthy neighborhood and I deal with snobby people and get over it but this teller actually told me it was my fault there was a hold on my account, he refused to discuss anything further and then proceeded to give me the wrong customer service number. I can live with snobiness and errors so I called B of A customer service and the once again nice representative explained that I actually needed a different department and gave me that number. So i call the new department and an extremely frustrated and irritable woman came on the line and stated that my account was being closed. I was incredulent especially since the bank let me deposit a check yesterday. She said that they were unable to verify my identity and that I would receive a cashier's check sometime in the next 4-5 weeks for the check that I had deposited. Unfortunately I am a 20 year old male who lives paycheck to paycheck and I just got shanked out of 700 bucks. I don't understand how 3 people can tell me my account is open, that i passed all the neccesary checks, even get a PIN and then they turn around and close my account without even an email or phone call? Do not join Bank of America!!!!

No Stars from me. I have banked with them on a credit basis having a line of credit secured years ago through MBNA (I actually like working with MBNA) that had a generous credit line and a fixed interest at 6.99%. This LOC transferred to BofA some time ago and at first nothing changed (probably because I never needed the LOC) but the first time I attempted to use it they reduced the available credit to $200.00 above the current balance and followed that up with a letter stating that the fixed interest rate is converting to a variable. I immediately closed the account and as soon as the housing market recovers I will be moving my 1st mortgage away from them along with sharing this story with everyone I know along with posting on twitter, facebook and any other site I can find to tell the truth about this sorry bank. I am ashamed they use the name America in their name. BOTTOM LINE DONT BANK WITH THEM!!!!
