Horrible, horrible bank. My fiance has a checking account with them and recently racked up some overdraft fees. When she went in to find out the amount it was much larger than it should've been. The girl told her that they had raised to overdraft fees without telling their customers. She also recommended that my fiance close her account because BoA is just stealing from her. She admitted that they purposely take longer than normal to notify you of overdrafts so that you will accumulate more charges. The banker said she deals with 3 or 4 of these situations a day due to the way the bank tries to rip off customers. When your own employees are telling customers that you are trying to steal from them and that they should get out as soon as possible its a really bad sign.Everyone should switch to another bank, let's show them they can't get away with what they are doing. It's disturbing that this bank is not being investigated for shady business practices

First I have to say that for all of my trouble, I have spoken with some very nice and understanding customer service reps. I guess they also know that their product is poor and they must be used to dealing with complaints.I opened up an account b/c I thought it was going to be a relatively simple and accessible place to put my money.Wrong.I opened an account online, but then when I tried to use my new, flashy card there was no pin # sent with it (which you need in order to activate it). When I went to the branch to ask for a pin, they had no recollection of my account because it was opened online. I then had to open a NEW account and spoke with a fairly disgruntled BofA worker, who hated his bank. This should have been my first clue. It's clear that though it's a bank of AMERICA, there is limited communication between banks. Certain branches won't speak to other branches and it takes 5-7 business days for anything to be done.On my online account, I had an overdraft, which was partially my fault. Because it was my first overdraft, they refunded it. Nice enough, thank you. Then, the customer service rep told me i had 3 days to deposit money so that I wouldn't get another charge. My friend deposited money for me (because it's impossible to do online or via the phone and because there were no BofA's in the state I was in). She deposited cash, no problem. The next day, I see that I have 3 more overdraft fees. The customer service rep was wrong, and in fact those charges were due to me. She was actually talking about the OTHER overdraft fees I would get if I didn't pay off the first overdraft fees.Fine, I said. I'm not in a state where I can deposit money, but can my parents do it in NY? Sure, they said...as long as the money's in by 6pm on the business day you will get no more charges.False. They failed to mention that if you deposit cash or check in a bank account that is not in the state where you opened the account, it takes 2 business days to "clear".It's cash, I said. That's the whole point. It doesn't need to clear. I said that's why you're a corporate identity - so all your branches can communicate. I didn't open a Bank of California account - it's called Bank of America. The last rep i talked to heard my frustration and quickly resolved the matter, after i paid over $120 to them in fees. Apparently that was enough money to make off an unsuspecting customer. I closed my account immediately, citing my reasons for closing were because of "uniformed fees, unclear communication and frustration". The woman apologized and then credited one overdraft fee to my account. When closing the account, i asked if i could receive the $5 that would be left in the account. They said only if you go to the branch where you opened the account, in person. Otherwise I would have to forfeit the money. At that point, I was just ready to be done with them and relinquished my poor 5 bucks. I failed to ask if they wanted to shirt off my back...Needless to say, I will never deal with this bank again. They are not for the working man....sorry if you've had a similar experience- warn your friends about this archaic financial institution!!

I fucking hate this bank. They charged me 6($35) overdraft fees and apparently there was nothing i could do. If i didn't pay soon enough they would continue to charge me daily. I payed the amount that was due that very same day and found that the next day they had charged me yet ANOTHER overdraft fee. I was so pissed i cried, and besides that overdraft fee the day after that i saw i was charged ANOTHER overdraft fee. I tried listening to their reasoning and it seems that they are trying to come up with ANY reason to keep charging its members. I do hope all the members that have been through this, to close their accounts, so that hopefully BoA will put more effort into caring about their account holders. SCREW BANK OF AMERICA!

I have had nothing but great experiences with Bank of America in the whole four years I have banked with them. I have a checking account, a savings account, and a credit card with Bank of America, and I have needed to call customer service many times to resolve issues, ask advice, etc. and I have always been listened to politely and helped in a timely fashion. It strikes me that almost every single "1-Star" review:A: Exhibits a weak grasp on the english language at best.B: Feels like it was written by a bratty teenager who's mom stopped giving them allowance.C: Tells stories about people who chose to ignore the basic premise of living within their means. If a bank manager actually tells you to go fuck yourself, yeah, go ahead and switch banks. If they get frustrated with you because you want a free lunch though, who can blame them.Maybe I've just been lucky, or maybe I just take better care of my finances than some of the bozos on this website, but I have moved all my financial dealings into Bank of America because I have received such good service from them. If you want them to be a "good" bank. Be a "good" customer. That means paying fees when you violate their agreements.

they ARE the DEVIL! I have a girl scout troop that they just don't give a damn about. GIRL SCOUTS for gosh sakes!! I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER open an account there and I am urging my girl scout higher ups to go elsewhere! This is ridiculous!! They closed our account 1 DAY after making me and my co leader jump thru hoops and get a loan for the deposit!!!!!!! And now NOBODY can tell me why or who closed it. so I have no way of cashing checks for my girls. I have been charging all our expenses on MY personal credit card and my husband is not happy. Thanks BOA! aka the demon devil of the US

I cannot believe Bank of America will stay in business too much longer with their approach to shafting their good customers.I have a line of credit with them that I have always paid on time and always paid over the minimum. A few months ago they reduced the line (I didn't care since I hadn't made a draws on it in over a year and had no intentions to do so), and they cited one reason was my payment history. When I called them, they told me that was a mistake in their letter and they are "considering" changing the letter and they admitted that I had NEVER made a late payment.Just three days ago I received a new letter from them that they are changing my fixed rate to a variable rate. I called them and told them they can't change a fixed rate loan and they informed me that the "fine print" says they can if they have a business purpose. Well their only business purpose is their own mismanagement and I cannot believe that they are going after their good customers who have honored their agreements. They apparantly have no honor. Since the prime rate is at the lowest its been in 50 years, and the predictions are that it will go up aggressively, anyone who they changed to a variable rate stands a 100% chance of their rate increasing.I will never do business with them again.

I recently opened an account online through Bank of America. I decided on bank of america since they had a red sox debit card and I am a diehard fan. Well i entered all my info and received an email saying that they would require more information and to call them at such and such number. I called and gave the very nice representative every answer he asked for and followed all the standard procedure. He said that I passed the security check and I would be receiving further info in the mail. Sure enough i received 3 letters in the mail, 1 was my new PIN, 1 was new account instructions and account numbers and 1 was a welcome packet. I got my paycheck ready and went to the bank yesterday and deposited the check as my first deposit. Since it was a Bank of America check the teller explained that it would be ready by midnight that night. That worked out great for me! So this morning I went into my local branch (a separate branch than the one I went into yesterday) and tried to withdraw some cash. Now I realize that I live in a wealthy neighborhood and I deal with snobby people and get over it but this teller actually told me it was my fault there was a hold on my account, he refused to discuss anything further and then proceeded to give me the wrong customer service number. I can live with snobiness and errors so I called B of A customer service and the once again nice representative explained that I actually needed a different department and gave me that number. So i call the new department and an extremely frustrated and irritable woman came on the line and stated that my account was being closed. I was incredulent especially since the bank let me deposit a check yesterday. She said that they were unable to verify my identity and that I would receive a cashier's check sometime in the next 4-5 weeks for the check that I had deposited. Unfortunately I am a 20 year old male who lives paycheck to paycheck and I just got shanked out of 700 bucks. I don't understand how 3 people can tell me my account is open, that i passed all the neccesary checks, even get a PIN and then they turn around and close my account without even an email or phone call? Do not join Bank of America!!!!

They are a big scam in my opinion. They will try to do anything to get your money.I wish i had research this site 13 years ago when i first open my account with them. They "valid " transaction will always be strong than your word and truth. Needless to say is the worst financial institution i've ever been with. Very disappointed. If you are smart and i think you are reading these reviews here is a good tip. Get away from them. They will rip you off.

No Stars from me. I have banked with them on a credit basis having a line of credit secured years ago through MBNA (I actually like working with MBNA) that had a generous credit line and a fixed interest at 6.99%. This LOC transferred to BofA some time ago and at first nothing changed (probably because I never needed the LOC) but the first time I attempted to use it they reduced the available credit to $200.00 above the current balance and followed that up with a letter stating that the fixed interest rate is converting to a variable. I immediately closed the account and as soon as the housing market recovers I will be moving my 1st mortgage away from them along with sharing this story with everyone I know along with posting on twitter, facebook and any other site I can find to tell the truth about this sorry bank. I am ashamed they use the name America in their name. BOTTOM LINE DONT BANK WITH THEM!!!!

Their service is awful, most of the staff have no clue. All they see is the big fat commission they'll get if they get you to sign whatever, no matter what would be the best choice for yourself. It is sad to say, but with them, you need to know most every trick about banking, you also need to be knowledgeable in financial laws, real estate, taxation ...... The icing on the cake is their ridiculous banking online which is malfonctioning 99% of the time. A bank is suppose to educate, serve and help its customers, no the other way around....or is it?

I was doing fine when Countrywide was servicing my mortgage. Then they were bought by Bank of America and things started going seriously wrong. I had two instances of same problem that sounds insane. In both situations the sequence of events went like below.1. One day during the first week of the month I cannot remember if I scheduled the mortgage payment already.2. I go online and check. There has been no payments and no payment is scheduled as shown on the computer.3. I was still skeptic and called up the customer service after enduring multiple Q&A by the machine voice and finally letting me talk to a human being.4. I asked the lady if I payed or scheduled a payment. The rep said no.5. As I was getting late in payment, after hearing the above, I made a payment immediately online.6. Surprise! BOA drew mortgage payment twice from my checking account. I started incurring one after another overdraft fee on the account as they took away all the money and the balance became negative.7. I spent hours with PNC Bank where my checking account is and BOA before the transaction got posted in the ledger overnight. I was almost lucky as I caught the BOA goof-up on the day when the mortgage payment transactions were showing as pending on the online banking screen of PNC Bank. PNC Bank was willing to intervene manually preventing that duplicate transaction from posting on my account, if BOA would authorize them to do so by simply stating that the payment is duplicate and they do not require that payment and so on. After talking with the representative of BOA for a long time she understood (I think) what the problem was and what I was asking for. She agreed to send the fax, but never actually did. The duplicate payment posted causing both financial loss and time loss for me trying to gather money and stabilize the account. The state of such a huge bank in the country is scary as millions of customers stand to depend on critical financial services. Additionally, thanks to mergers and buy-outs, they keep getting bigger. My advice to everyone, if you can, avoid BOA. None of their services are any good. They did a nasty treatment with my credit card rate increase and fee imposition before as well when I had perfect credit score, clean payment history, no debt load and many other competing credit cards of good quality. It did not take me more than a second to call them and close my CC account with them. It is not easy to do that with morgage servicing. They should be sued and disciplined.

Most of the time the way the bank handles Overdraft fees, deposits and such has really pissed me off. However today they made me smile! The messup was my own, a math mistake, that lead to 8 items bounching in one day, none of them over $3. Then because of those 8 items another bounced the next day. That's 9. Then I made a deposit to cover some more stuff that was coming in, and it "cleared" a day to late, so three more things bounced. That's 12, then becuase of those 3 things bouncing, 1 more item bounced today.... that makes 13. At $35 a pop.... $455 in overdraft fees..... I was in trouble, things were just going to keep bouncing because of this. We have many bill autopayed and direct deposit, so life was looking dim for the next few months bank account wise, was maybe going to have to close my account...So I went into my local office, and due to past experence not expecting much, and ended up with the bank manager. After I explained everything she refunded all but 4 of the fees. This not only has saved me $315 upfront, but maybe as much as another $500 that would have bounced over the next few month as we worked are way out of this hole. Today I'm a happy Bank of America customer!

Bank of America sucks. I have never opened an account at B of A, but they have taken over two banks where I had substantial amounts of money. Both times, it has required multiple calls and/or visits for me to get my money back from them. I think they purposefully delay closing accounts with large balances so they can use the money.I would never do business with B of A again.
theonlymerlin 10/06/2009
First and foremost, to all you whiners out there crying about overdraft fees, tell me one Bank or Credit Union that will not charge you a fee for MISMANAGING YOUR OWN MONEY. It’s a very easy concept, if you don't have it, don't spend it. You can't spend what you don't have if you paid everything with cash, what makes you think you can with your debit card/check. If you spend it, write it down. You no longer have that money available; it has been promised to someone else. You agreed to give them your money for their services, whether your purchase was only a measly $0.99 for your McFlurry or not. The VISA logo on your debit card means that the merchant is guaranteed payment, if you don't believe me, go and read the merchant agreements for accepting debit/credit cards from ALL the major companies (VISA,MC,AMEX,DISC). I know, I help my mother-in-law with her little country store.Maybe I am the exception to the norm, but I read EVERYTHING that I sign or agree too. If I do not understand it, I do not agree to it or put my name on the dotted line. And yes, I have read the complete EULA for Microsoft Products. I also read all my Credit Card statements and all junk mail that comes to my house, everything is opened and reviewed, junk mail recycled, important stuffs filed. Simple and easy and keeps us out of trouble. If you are too lazy to read and review don't bother signing up for ANYTHING. All the fees are clearly laid out in multiple locations and if something changes, they will tell you, but of course, you have to take time out of your 'busy life' to review it.The Majority of these lame complaints are from individuals that I can only assume need someone to follow them around 24/7 to make sure they are doing everything 'properly'. Anyone who uses the ATM to check their balances should have their cards revoked. That silly little box has absolutely no clue what checks you have written or when you 'swiped' your card. It is a simple snapshot of what is in your account RIGHT NOW. We are currently in the process of moving all of our banking needs over to BoA but guess what, even the local bank ATM's do the exact same thing that theirs do! I know, shocking isn't it?I am not a perfect person and have overdrawn my accounts at times, but I fully accept the responsibility for those rare occurrences, cause guess what, I screwed up. I forgot to write it down, or wrote it down wrong. Why don't I complain about the overdraft fees you ask? I am a responsible ADULT and take responsibility for my own actions. My Mother once told me, after screwing up majorly while still living at home, "You've made your bed, now sleep in it". I learn from my mistakes and try not to repeat them. I also don’t float checks, while it is not ‘technically’ illegal, it is considered writing a bad check and if the dollar amount is high enough could be considered a felony. In addition to that I personally would rather the bank process the higher dollar value check/debit transactions (like my Credit Cards or Mortgage) so the mistake, while potentially costly is nowhere near as costly as higher interest rates or defaulting on a loan.

one star is too high of rating for this bank. They will literally steal money from you with multiple hidden codes. very bad customer service; unhelpful and rude attitudes towards their customers. quiet frankly, it is a mistake to go with this bank!!! unless you want to be ripped off.

The vast majority of these evaluations are extremely negative, the lack of balance compels me to write up my own brief story. Bank of America has redeemed itself. A few days ago, a lunch place that I frequent filed all of their receipts from the past business week; which is to say I was actually all at once for purchases made over the course of a week, and a week after they were made. My account balance, which was sufficient to cover all of the charges at the times of purchase, was overdrawn not once or twice, but three times. Then, adding insult to injury, I made two other purchases on the card without knowing it was overdrawn, resulting in five (5—count em’) overdraft fees for a total of $175.Perhaps needless to say, I thought that that was ridiculous. It wasn’t my fault that the merchant posted their receipts all at once, and I had more enough money to cover the purchases when they were made. Why was I being punished for practices that were outside of my control?I called BofA’s customer service and had an awful time trying to get some sympathy for my situation. The people I spoke with were terrible, and maintained that the charges were ‘valid’, and that therefore the only thing I could do was pay Bank of America 175 of my hard earned dollars.I have banked with them for over five years, and was disgusted that such a long relationship clearly meant nothing to the customer service providers who refused to refund even one of these erroneous charges. I was incensed, and became even more angry when the customer service representative with whom I was speaking refused to transfer me to her superior, instead offering a mailing address to file a written complaint. Absurd—in this day and age, I’m going to wait weeks to get a response?!Finally, after being on the phone with someone there for over an hour, she relented and transferred me to the voicemail of her superior. I left a long and detailed message, ending with the frustrated threat that, after this experience, I intended to close my account as soon as possible. Bank of America can fool me once, but they would never get another penny from me.When I hadn’t heard back from the superior by the next day, I assumed that my call had fallen through the cracks. Determined to make good on my threat, I went to the branch closest to my office to terminate my account. Here, however, is where the story begins to turn. The associate listened to my story and offered to refund two of the five charges; she had to check with the branch manager before refunding any more. I accepted this temporary agreement, still sure that if not all of these spurious charges were refunded I would close the account. Later in the day I received a call back from the customer service superior, and repeated my ultimatum: no refund, they lose a customer. Rightfully, all 5 of my overdraft fees were returned to me. I didn’t get an apology, but my experience did not end on a sour note.I never thought I would be drafting a positive account of this debacle. But, there it is. Bank of America has redeemed itself in my eyes, and I remain a customer.

If i could give bank of america less than one star i would.i am "in the process" of getting mortgage. My credit score is good, i have the funds to pay for 1/2 of the house in cash, and every time they have asked for ANY THING i have gotten them all paperwork needed immediately.i have had to send in paperwork 4-5 times because they are unorganized. i have gone for weeks leaving 2 messages a day and calling 10-20 times a day with no answer or return call. the seller now doesn't want to sell me the house because BOA has taken 4 EXTRA months (4 months past projected closing date), and still haven't cleared me to close.i have been reassured hundreds of times that i am MORE THAN qualified for this loan and that i should get the clear to close in a hurry... if i knew they would give me this headache i would have definately went through a different bank... DO NOT USE BOA!!!!!

Bank of America is the worst bank ever! I am horrified at how bad their customer service has been to me in the last week...I recently moved from Canada to Redmond...when I tried to use my Bank of America debit card I got an error in the ATM machine. I went to the bank of America branch and they said that a block had been placed on the card since the card had not been used for over a year. (which is true). So I got the story that the block has now been removed. So far so good. i went to the ATM after that and still could not use it. Back to the branch and the same girl told me that it takes a few hours for the hold to come off. So she gave me the cash I needed for then and assured me it would be okay for me to use the card. Then three days later I still could not use the card. I then called customer service who told me to call BOA fraud center. I called the fraud center and they said the hold had been lifted and I should call customer service. So i got bounced back n forth a few times. Finally they told me that my card would be cancelled and I would be sent a new one in 5- busienss days...R u kidding me? I will have no access to the funds in all of that time????? I told them this is unacceptable and they told me to go into the branch. So again i went to the BOA branch and they told me that they can rush order a new card for me in 3 business days....I am sooo pissed at them right now ... and after reading these reviews i see why..they truly are theives and I hope they go bankrupt! i am changing banks now!!!DO NOT BANK WITH BANK OF AMERICAAA!!

I was a Countrywide Bank retail customer for years without problems. My accounts got moved to Bank of America (not by my choice!) I had to go to a branch in Los Angeles area to transfer funds among my accounts. First, a counter teller: "We don't know what to do. Please have a seat and someone will help." OK. After 10 minutes, a woman comes out from an office, "How may I help?" OK. I explain how Countrywide branch used to take care of paperwork right on the spot for my transfer. She says, "Well, that bank is gone. You need to go home and call B of A 800 number to transfer your money." (Really???) Another thing. "Since you have no account originally with B of A, they will have to MAIL you a cashier's check, and you can deposit it to the other B of A account." I got a little upset and told her that did not sound right. She says, "I didn't have to come out to help you. I could just let you sit in that chair forever." THAT'S IT. WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE SPIRIT!!! It's customer abuse. THAT WAS IT. Even though a telephone banking person in Texas (actually very polite) was able to transfer my money from one "now B of A (used-to-be Countrywide Bank) account" to "another B of A account" , I have had more than enough after one visit with B of A. I do not want to step a foot into B of A branch ever again. I am moving all my money out of Bank of America. I now remember that I banked with B of A twenty years ago, then left because of poor branch customer service then. I advise against banking with Bank of America.

Bank of America is so terrible and short on customer service, I am hoping I don't have to give them even one star. After several years of gotcha fees from BofA I decided to close my account. They had me deposit an extra 20 dollars to cover a charge that was going through from my security company and then they DIDN'T PAY IT. So my parting gift was that they stole an additional 20 dollars of my money (they say the check is in the mail, yeah right) and I got a charge for a returned check from my security company. Bad evil bank giant, I couldn't scream this from enough roof tops!Darn, I did have to give them a star. :(
DeviantNic 09/17/2009
They rob you with all the fees. I give it 2 stars simply because if you call crying over the phone about your financial hardship, they'll reverse the fees a few times a month before you reach your "monthly limit". Not many robbers will give your money back if you cry to them so yeah, BoA can get an extra star for being polite robbers.

I was with Bank of America for many years. About 10 years ago, they were about the best you could find. Over the past 6 years, they gradually declined to becoming the worst possible organization to bank with. I work for the government, and am privy to some of the stuff that the government just recently found out about all the fraud and misappropriation of government funds. My severe warning comes to you as an EX-personal banking and small business banking customer. The worst issues began one night about 2 years ago at about 11 PM when my phone started going off with a bunch of alerts that my account was overdrawn and my Yahoo France music purchases were being denied. YAHOO FRANCE!!! At the time, I was in Idaho. Its been 20 years since I was in France! Someone had acquired my debit card info and began making lots and lots of $0.79 to $0.99 charges to purchase music, draining my account of more than $2400. So much for their fraud detection systems! After spending 3 or 4 hours on the phone and getting nothing but voice recordings and terminal holds, I realized that I had to wait until 7 AM to get anyone to do anything about it. The 24/7 service commitment that they used to have has now turned into a 24% chance of talking to a knowledgeable person within 7 transfers.I ordered BofA to close ALL of my accounts -- both personal and business, and I had opened new accounts with Chase before the BofA banking center ever opened. That was when I learned that BofA has a rule that they will automatically reopen any account which has activity within 30 days of closure, or for which an ACH is received. After 6 months, of fighting with them to keep the accounts closed, I ended up having Pre-Paid Legal send them a letter 'STRONGLY encouraging' them to close the accounts or face legal action. All was well until about 18 months later when a creditor called me to say that I have an overdue account with BofA for $462 made up of service charges and NSFs against a closed account. The amount was paid just to keep it from hitting my credit report, yet I later found out that the actual amount was $338. What happened to the other $124? No one knows except that I now have a statement that they received it.Since all of this, I have been fighting with BofA in order to get copies of the statements for the accounts that they reopened, so that I might file my taxes. They'll give you some stupid reason to send them a written letter, such as to tell you that they no longer have you as a signer on the account. Don't bother, because they don't answer any such correspondence, but will accuse you of never sending it. They will also tell you to go to the nearest banking center to prove your identity. That's nice if there's one nearby, but I live in Colorado where there are no banking centers. If you experience such hassles, do yourself a favor and purchase a plan with Pre-Paid Legal for between $17 (personal) and $30 (with business riders) a month, and have them send letters on your behalf. Its the only way to get those idiots to pay attention to you. If you have not YET faced such issues and are a Bank of America, you should do the same, and have Pre-Paid Legal issue them a letter which states that they are to close your accounts and cause them to remain closed, no matter who or what attempts to access the account. Since you'll not be able to easily get copies of your statements from them, I suggest downloading electronic copies of all statements and also make a backup of them.I now conduct all of my personal and business banking with Chase, to include my mortgage. I have yet to have any problems with them. In fact, they beat every other broker by more than 1.5% on my mortgage. They also have assigned a business banker to me that I can walk in and talk to at any point. Choosing a bank takes a lot of research and comparison against your personal needs. As far as the government is concerned (but won't share just yet with the public) Bank of America is in trouble and Chase remains strong. Take that for whatever you think its worth.Good luck! You're going to need it in this economy!
smiles!!=) 09/15/2009
YOU KNOW HOW THEY SAY AT FIRST THAT IF YOU LOOSE YOUR JOB TO CONTACT THEM AND THEY WILL HELP YOU THAT THEY ARE HERE FOR YOU........ WELL I LOST MY JOB IN OCTOBER AND I HAD LET THEM KNOW THAT AND ON MY CREDIT CARD THEY ARE STILL OVER CHARGING ME IT SEEMS ACTUALLY THEY ARE TRYING TO CHARGE ME EXTRA FOR NOT WORKING..... MY MINIMUM PAYMENT USED TO BE 15$ AND WHEN I HAD A JOB I WOULD PAY AT LEAST 80$ WELL OVER ENOUGH AND SINCE I TOLD THEM I HAVE NO JOB THEY MAKE ME PAY MINIMUM PAYMENT OF 11O$ IN WHAT WOTRD DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE? This is a miserable, horrible bank. They have been given massive amounts of taxpayer dollars in handouts, yet they treat their customers with disdain and contempt.

I've had constant problems with BofA.I call and complain and they return part of what they purloin.I filed a complaint with the better business bureau and The Office of the Comptroller of Currency. below are their web sites where you file a complaint electronically. I also found this organization and filed a complaint with my congressman.everyone here should do the same.http://www.bbb.org/us/Find-Business-Reviews/http://www.helpwithmybank.gov/complaints/index.html http://www.affil.org/

Bank of America's employees do not know anything about their loan services; not even which loans are offered. I tried to get a motorcycle loan or unsecured loan for a used bike. I make good money and have collateral even for a secured loan if necessary. The over the phone rep, because the branch was useless, took my info and came back with denied. Ok, so you think I can know why or add documentation to suffice? Heck no. Its all automated and the employees couldn't tell you what time of day it is much less how to reach someone in the loan department who actually can make a decision... yep that's right, one single freaking decision. Hire morons = inefficient banking = sub-optimal service and business = no wonder we're in a financial crisis. They have three monkeys and two chimpanzees trying to run a whole loan department for B of A. Idiots!

Bank of America is awful- it is so hard to reach anyone to talk to, they don't care or treat you with any respect, and in the end they just want to pinch every penny out of you that they can. I am paying off my credit card, closing my account and never looking back. DO NOT BANK WITH BANK OF AMERICA!!!!!

Do NOT bank with Bank of America, they are slimy thiefs!!!I recently ran a credit check to get a home loan, and to my surprise found a "delinquent" account with BofA. I had previously had a checking account with them and a credit card that I closed down completely. On the day I closed the account I made sure that the accounts were at zero and paid off my 16.00 fee on the creditcard from my savings. Well, when I ran credit for that home loan the delinquent account for BofA was for those 16.00 that I had paid off a year ago! I called the branch to dispute this "debt" for a credit card originally worth 15,000.00, they said that they never received the payment, eventhough it was done in their branch on the day the acct. was closed and the record for it was on the last statement. They did NOT clear the account despite these records, and NOT only did they have me pay off the 16.00 but also the late fees that were accumulated for a year. After I paid the amount in order to clean my credit, I asked them to send me a letter saying that the accounts were close and at a zero balance.A few weeks later, I received the letter I requested from the bank stating that the accounts had been closed and that I should expect to receive statements until the accounts were paid off... I was pist!! I called the BofA, and they said that the accounts were still not paid off... that the accoutns still had a balance despite the payment, it was an interest fee!!! WTF?! I had suppousedly paid off the 16.00s and the late fees that had been accumulated for that year.... I had no choice but to pay the remaining balance.... SO pist!!!

They launched this program called Add it Up. I went to the website and signed up for it successfully. I then try to log on to the program and it tells me that I don't have a qualifying credit card or debit card with them, even though I do and that is how I registered. I spend an hour being bounced around from one agent to another and all confirm that I have qualifying cards. Finally, a supervisor comes on the line and asks for two weeks to fix the problem. I call after 3 weeks, get bounced around again and am finally told by a supervisor to wait another two weeks......this bank has the worst service!

Here's a good one. I want to pay my account to zero and have scheduled regular payments every 2 weeks.I just cancelled the payment for Sept. 5th for $100. and instead made a payment for 300.00 on Sept.1st. Now the online system won't allow me to make another payment although they allow 3 online payments/month and we are only on day 5 of the month!I say let this bank fail!!!

I recently receivied my annual bill from Bank of America for my Safety Deposit Box. We decided we could find a much cheaper box at another bank. I asked what the fees were in Silverdale, Wa and found with a gold account the small box was free and a $47 would be deducted from a larger box. I went to my Poulsbo branch and the manager said my bill would be adjusted but they would do nothing about overbilling for past years. She said it was my responsibility to keep on top of the bill and I should have realized that with a gold account a percentage of the bill would be deducted. I guess it's up to the customer to argue the bill each year. One would think that with current software available Bank of America would have the system implemented so Gold Card Members are automatically entitle to deduction. I give Bank of America a zero for Customer Relations. The manager was rude and acted like I was just bothering her.

How does the governemnt allow an American company to steal from customers?
accounting175 09/02/2009
Their lousy lending habits have caused them to put the screws tro the average middle American while the government hands them billions. After five years, over 60 months, I had one late payment (by three days). Just as I was applying for a mortgage they reported this one late payment and my excellent credit rating dropped 100 points. The joke was, the mortgage was with them! Ok so now one year later, all payments on time, etc., I get a note telling me they are raising my 5.95 FIXED rate credit card rate to 10.95!!! Thanks for being a good customer right? Better yet, I call today to ask about a certain credit due to my account and am told I must speak to a credit specialist. In reviewing my account, she decides my credit limit is too high ( I have 7K of unused credit) so she docks me the 7K and drops my credit limit to a few dollars above my balance. Thus now that my outstanding debt is right at my credit limit on this card, my FICO score will drop dramatically. When I pleaded with her she basically said, too bad. Of course she could provide no reason for the drop, other than the fact that she could do what she wanted and she had done it so basically, go "blank" off. When I called back and asked for a supervisor, in a very nice way, I was told that the supervisors only handle administrative duties and do not take calls. After getting no where I asked the rep in the credit deparmtent if he could explain her decision to drop my limit. I had called to get help and all I got was a knife in the back. He said that the Bank felt that the reduced credit limit would be "more comfortable for me". After expounding upon my excellent credit rating, credit history, payments on time, etc., and requesting that a human make a decision based on the individual they were dealing with rather than a computer model, he told me it was their perogative. So consumer be wary. No matter what you agreed to with them, they have the right, and will do whatever the hell they want to, and really have no problem telling you that on the phone as it's "their money". So you will pay. Warning - if you take out a mortgage with them, they will probably call you a few years later and tell you it's due three months away in full, or offer you a bargain interest rate of 20% not to call your loan. Trust me, you cannot trust them, and they are bulllies and nasty in the process.

Sorry I had to trick you into stopping to read my letter by giving them a good rating. But Bank of America SUCKS!!!I had a credit card from B of A and it was accruing a whole bunch of "points" over the many years I had this card due to my wifes over spending habits. I never cashed in any of the points because I was hoping to cash them in for a trip someday. I had cosigned a loan for a friend and she missed a couple of payments, unbeknownst to me. So I go to use my card one day and I was told the bank canceled it. I called B of A and they told me that my credit rating dropped so they had to cancel the card. I argued that I've made everyone of my payments ontime and in full every month. Sometimes as high as $3500 and they should base their decision on that. They apologized and said "company policy". I then told them "Fine, send me the cash for my bonus points" and they said because my card was canceled I wouldn't be able to get my points. After going through Managers and so on. I came to the conclusion that I can't win and resigned to that fact. I would just lose the over $600.00 I had accrued over the years. It left me with a feeling of just getting robbed.A couple of month's later same thing happened to me with American Express. A company I had always felt had my back and was always supporting me. I had asked about the cash that was saved up in my account and they told me the exact same thing as B of A.A few months later I got a check and a letter of apology from Am Ex. Which made me feel that at least they are an honorable company. Unlike B of A. Who will take any opportunity to screw you and hide behind company policy like a a bunch of rich cowards, spending my hard earned money.Right is right and thats pretty chicken.I've been checking reviews of other banks and it seems like it's a crap shoot. I feel I should start hiding money in my mattress. The money they make off you and the appreciation for that, just isn't there.I really don't have any problems with their other products.I think a brilliant, ambitious Lawyer should seek a class action suit against them for some type of credit card fraud. I'll be first in line to sign up.

Incredibly non-customer focused. Unwilling to work with student to learn money management. We have over $15K in this bank and it has cost us nearly $1K in fees over the past 3 months. Excessive fees for money transfers, maintenance fees on savings, ... This bank sucks.

I used to love Bank of America, and considered it a wonderful tool for rebuilding my credit when I couldn't get an account anywhere because a decade ago I was one of those irresponsible partying twenty-somethings and screwed up my finances. After many years of issue-free banking, watching my account like a hawk, and carefully documenting everything and not incurring a single overdraft fee, things started going wrong. The first thing was my fault initially. When I moved into a new apartment, I wrote several checks for different types of deposits, credit check fees, etc. Most of those cleared right away, however one of the checks got misplaced. I was aware it hadn't gone through yet and kept the money in my account to avoid an overdraft. Then a close death in my family and ensuing expenses and grief made it slip my mind after awhile. Check completely forgotten. When the apartment called me 3 months later to tell me they found a check I wrote them for $300, deposited it and just wanted to give me a heads up, I thought, oops. Crap. Well, I'll take that one, because i don't actually have $300 in my account right now, I'll have to fix this as soon as I can when I get paid and braced myself for an overdraft and a bounced check fee.Oddly enough, Bank of America decided to PAY the check (even though I don't have overdraft protection), thereby wiping out everything I had, all smaller transactions (even $2 cups of coffee) were charged $35, my account went negative $235. Then it went negative $270 for an "extended overdraft" fee. I was now out nearly $600.On another occasion, I had $100 externally deposited into one of my bank accounts I keep mostly empty on purpose, and I transferred it into my main checking account online. Next thing I know I'm online banking and see that that particular account is now overdrawn because of an "insufficient funds" fee for making the transfer. I was out of state and guess I got lucky because I went into a bank personally and was issued an apology and had the money refunded (after the banker sat on hold with the direct corporate line for 25 minutes!) I thought it was a fluke. The banker suggested the problem occurred because BoA has a different system with WA, OR, and ID than from the rest of the country, and my account was opened in Washington and I was now "cross system" banking while on business in California. I figured it wouldn't happen again. And it didn't for a while. Back in Washington however, I made a deposit on a low balance at an ATM and had the extra $100 available, which is customary. I pulled out $40. A few days later I tried to use my card for a $1.75 cup of coffee. It was declined. I looked online to see that my deposit had not been counted for several days and although they made the funds available, I was charged $35 for everything I used the card for, including the $40 withdrawal from THEIR ATM MACHINE. My $40 withdrawal was actually a $75 withdrawal. Nothing should have overdrafted AT ALL.Foolishly thinking this would be fixed by customer service like it was in CA, I tried to explain my situation to a banking associate and was told that they would not fix something that was not their error. If they made the funds available it was just as a courtesy and weren't responsible if I decided to use them when I clearly made the deposit after 5pm, so that even though the bank doesn't close until 6, the deposit wouldn't count until at least the next business day. And I should know that. Why would you "courteously" make funds available to me if you were just going to CHARGE ME FOR USING THEM? Oh... wait... ok. That would be why? She then lectured me about how they give me the tools to not incur fees and many of their customers never incur fees because they "use the tools" and they would not reverse the overdraft fees for someone who didn't take every advantage to not incur said overdraft fees. (Like not use money I deposited into the bank?) WTF???From here the conversation took a steady downturn with me completely losing my composure and melting down into tears and yelling and then getting a lecture about how "no one's going to want to help you if you're yelling and crying. You saying that we're keeping money on purpose is completely untrue. Stop making it up."I eventually hung up and then cried some more. (Admittedly I'm pregnant and emotional, but now is not the time to lecture me about using what little money I deposited to buy oil for the car and groceries that I was keeping track of so I wouldn't overdraft, thank you very much.) Money is tight enough as it is without being slammed for another $105 dollars in fees for using "available" funds.I thought people who called BoA the "Evil Empire" were just a part of the movement that blames financial institutions for personal irresponsibility which I see happen all the time because people can't use a check register or keep track of what they spend that may or may not post right away. Now I know different. And while people will continue to blame banks and the government and whoever else for their own stupidity, in this instance, I'm blaming the bank for charging completely unnecessary fees on overdrafts that only happened because the bank made them happen, not because I didn't have the money to cover them. If I'd not deposited the money and spent it on the same things, I'd still have some left over, not be overdrawn, and not now be "accountable" for $105 more dollars and feel the need to go spend more money in therapy over the lecture I got about my incompetence and irresponsibility while disputing the extra $105 dollars.Experiences with banks aren't supposed to make the customer think, "gee... the risk of carrying cash is far less than the risk of putting the money in the bank." That's counterintuitve customer service isn't it? I'm now shopping for a new bank hoping my credit is repaired enough to switch. Bank of America FAIL.

I have been with Bank of America since 2003, when Wachovia closed my Checking account due to $480 overdraft ($40 overdrawn + $440 in fees). Wachovia reported this on my credit and to ChexSystems which prevented me from getting a new account with another bank. Bank America was very understanding during this difficult time and opened new checking and savings accounts for me. To this day there has never been an overdraft. Six years later, I have graduated with a finance major and now have 3 BofA credit cards, 3 deposit accounts, and an account with their investment bank. Basically in 2003 had had been young and stupid, BofA recognized that and decided to give me another chance to reestablish my banking and credit histories. They were the only bank that believed in me and every time I call them about anything, the representatives are very kind, patient and understanding. While other banks treat you according to how much money you have, I have received the same excellent customer service when I had $100 to my name and horrible credit as I receive today with over $100,000 in deposits and investments plus impeccable credit. I appreciate being treated like a person and not a number, and I believe in Bofa enough to not only use them exclusively, but also owning their stock. The ironic thing is that after I started improving my finances with Bank of America, every other bank (including Wachovia) wants me to bank with them and take their credit cards! BofA has truly been a partner in my financial success, and I will reward them by being a lifelong customer.

I think that Bank Of America is the most crooked bank ever. The way that they run their company is so devious. Then when you have a problem and call about it you have to talk to their customer service department which is pointless because they are nothing but rude (Every time I have called) they help you to accomplish absolutly nothing besides making the customer VERY angry. The thing they are most known for is the $35 charges they like to hit you with. I understand if they charge is necessary and you overdrafted, but when they dont post your overdraft charge till days and days later then there is huge problem since most likey the money will not be in there, and they know that so that will just cause another over draft charge and eat all the money away that you have. FYI: BANK OF AMERICA WILL CHARGE YOUR ACCOUNT A $35 IF YOUR ACCOUNT HAS ALREADY BEEN NEGATIVE FOR 5 CONSECUTIVE DAYS. THE FUNNY THING IS WHEN YOU CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY DONT TELL YOU THAT. I talked to customer service for 1 hour when they knew my account was overdrawn and they never mentioned their "new policy" because they are crooked and out to hurt the cutomer and make the most money that they can on over draft fees. What a smart way to run your bank and care about your customers. Well the only advice I can give to any one considering Bank of America is that its the biggest Mistake, they have the worst customer service, they dont tell you any details, or how their banking system works until its to late, and if you already have an account with them I would close your account take your money and run!! I do reccomend Wachovia :) nicest cutomer service, they help and understan the cutomers issues and do something about it and dont have all these un needed charges. I also thing that its funny how Bank Of America would add this new $35 policy during a time like this. The economy is bad and people can not afford much. Do they really think adding a $35 is going to help someone when their account is already neg with more $35 charges??? umm no, They just want to make sure their bank is taken care of, but not the customer. Good Luck to ANYONE that deals with them. They are VERY Dissapointing.

Horrendous blood-sucking institution. Ought to change their name to V of A, "Vampires of America"! *They LOVE to charge you their $35 overdraft fees, multiple times on a single day...ain't that lovely...and even charge you $9 for doing more than three transfers of your own money within their own accounts! *Their "customer service" representatives are inept and have a bad attitude, sometimes their speech is unintelligible. *Three days ago, I received a threatening letter from them, telling me that they were going to charge me over $62 for being late on my mortgage payment, (Countrywide was taken over by VofA). What's crazy is that they are the ones who are supposed to withdraw the money automatically! They told me that their threat letter was a "glitch in the system" as the withdrawal date fell on a Sunday. So even though their very own website stated that they had received the payment on the 17th, their own letter, dated also on the 17th, said that I hadn't paid. *I don't go to the physical branch much, but when I do, I see new people all the time...I guess there's not much job satisfaction there, either. **STAY AWAY from this dump! If you value your hard-earned money, stay out of this blood-sucking, apathetic, house of thieves. I'm going to begin the process of switching out ASAP!

Oh my God, talk about getting rob front of your eyes. I mean you go to bank and feels you will be safe there. I felt like I'm standing between bank's thief. I will not choose bank of america anymore for my business. I had several problem like their representative can not count the money right (was given wrong amount of money), no respect, party time front of customers, pens don't work, no money envelopes were given even after request, dust on counters and dead flies. I talked to the manager and he was told I'll be right back, but never came. I closed my saving account and my checking on August 21, 2009.

Bank tellers are full of misinformation and different people in the same branch tell you different things, like they will charge $10/day if you overdraft and have overdraft protection vs. $10/item. Also, if you overdraft, you will be charged $35/item. What they dont tell you is that the post the largest charges first, even if you made them when you had money in your account. Meaning, I got charged $35 for three 75 cent charges, even though those charges were made when I had money in there. Trust me, most banks don't do this. They post charges by the dates they were made, not by the amount. Also, BofA doesn't give you the option of not overdrafting. Meaning, I want a bank that will deny my card when theres no money in the account. A BofA ATM or Debit will never tell you insufficient funds when your charging or withdrawing. So, believe me, RUN! I'm changing banks pronto.

TerribleMy blood pressure went so high with Customer Service that I had to stay in bed the whole day to get it down.I have never experienced something like this before and still cannot believe it.I tried to do a wire transfert and went directly to the bank to do so; At the bank, I Learned that I had to do it online and was given a sheet to follow direction to do my transaction. I went online to do the wire and realized that for any transaction over $1000 I had to pay additional security fee; Since I was running out of time, I agreed to pay the fee; but when I clicked on the "pay fee" button, I got an error message that I could not do so; the option was not available. I called customer service at least 4 times to get some help to complete the transaction, and got transfered from one department to the next until I reached one representative who told me that I was selected to do a credit review. I explained to the representative that I wanted to do a wire transfer and that I spent my whole afternoon to do so and I was not interested in any credit review at this time, he told me that he could not help me unless I went to the credit review process; I asked to speak to a supervisor and he told me that the supervisor will do the same thing. I finally started the credit review process which took forever and finally, I learned that they could not give me the same line of credit anymore. I went from a request to do a wire transfert to a decrease in my line of credit. Then I tried again to do the wire transfert online for $1000 to avoid the other fee that was not available and got a message that I had to call a 18884368828 number to remove the hold on the account. I called the number four (4) times and waited each time 20 minutes and I could not talk to anybody; the message said that they are experiencing high volume of calls. I started the first call at exactly 8:00 a.m., I spent the whole day trying to reach someone at the number with no luck. I finally called a different number and asked to talk to a manager; after going through the whole process of identification, the manager asked us to go to a branch since they could not verify us. We then decided to go to a local branch and spent two hours working with the branch manager to get the transaction completed; she tried to call all the numbers to help us out and we finally had to leave the bank because she could not get anyone to help us out. We had to find another ways to get this wire done outside of Bank of AmericaI am not sure that I understand what is going on with customer service and what type of service is available to customers. Even managers from the bank cannot help us out.... I am now looking for another bank to transfer my money so I don't go through the same experience I had. This has been the worst experience ever with Bank of America. and I would not encourage anyone to do business with them.

Excessive fees, slow to clear deposits, "even Cash deposits"I opened a student account for my daughter. I was told it was Free, they charged my account monthly for the "FREE" Account. I went to close my account because the monthly fees had depleted it to zero, they said they couldn't accept my Real Banks Debit card to cover the negative balance for the "RESONABLE FEES" that were due. After getting the account Closed they could not provide me with a reciept to show that the account was closed, only could show a Zero balance. It is going to be interesting to see if they charge addiitonal money for the Zero Balance. I encourage everybody to Stop doing business with this Money Sucking Institution. These are the same people that bought Merril Lynch, paid huge bonuses then need A Bail Out. They are paying it back of course....LOL... With the "Resonable Fees" they charge their customers....... Never again... Find yourself a local Bank, you'll be much happier!!

awful bank... DO NOT BANK WITH THEM. I MADE A DEPOSIT FOR $500.00 CASH INSIDE THE BANK BEFORE 2 PM, JUST TO MAKE SURE THE CASH WOULD POST ON TIME. THAT NIGHT i MADE A FEW PAYMENTS ONLINE.... SURPRISE!!!!! 5 OVERDRAFTS FEES IN MY ACCOUNT 2 DAYS LATER "BECAUSE MY $500.00 CASH DEPOSIT DIDN'T POST ON TIME" ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! I MA JUST GLAD I HAVE MY DEPOSIT SLIP WITH DATE AND TIME PLUS I PRINTED ALL THE RECEIPTS FOR MY PAYMENTS. BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU HERE I COME. I HEARD THE SAME STORY OVER AND OVER AGAIN FROM OTHER PEOPLE. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A NEW BANK PLEASE DONT USE BANK OF AMERICA. THEY ARE THE WORST BY FAR.

I would rate them a 0 but it won't let me. 1 star is more than they deserve. Avoid this bank at all costs. The customer service is terrible and they charge unreasonable fees for pretty much everything. Move your money to a local bank and pray the bank of america goes under.
