Citibank 1

The biggest New York City based banks are IMO the worst banks in all the United States. Specifically Citibank and J.P. Morgan Chase, - I have medium size accounts with both banks (in excess of $75,000 and $50,000 respectively). I will be closing both accounts ASAP. Several years ago when I was still working, I was the victim of identity theft because of Citibanks insecure, inadequate so-called security policies which required a Debit to use online banking. Then to enter your pin number online to setup an online account. Hackers had hacked into their network (or my computer) somehow and got my name, address, and pin number. They then called customer service and said they were me, and they had lost their debit/atm card, changed their address and had a new one mailed to their address. I have never used an ATM/debit card and I did not want a Citibank card, especially with their high interest rates. The only reason I even had it issued is because I was compelled to if I wanted to use their online banking. The criminals involved went into Citibank branches in the Southern CA area (I live in the Bay Area) and using the ATM/Debit card as identification with no drivers license, (by swiping the card at the teller and then entering the pin number) withdrew almost $14,000 out of my account before Citibanks own "safety dept."
turned off access to the account. When I discovered the money was missing (I was also contacted by the Citibank "safety" dept.) and filed a request for re-imbursement as fraud; They
almost outright accused me of taking the money myself and then trying to commit fraud by filing the re-imbursement request. Under Federal law (and their own policies), the account was insured by the FDIC and required that the customer be reimbursed within 30 days. It took about two months for them to complete their investigation and reimburse me, all the while causing me an enormous amount of work, phone calls, letters, stress and subsequent health problems. I should have closed my account then, but instead I forgave them because of the apologetic corporate response I got once I contacted Citibank executives and the Federal government. Big mistake.
Since then (2001), I had had one problem after another which I will not elaborate on at this time.
Citibank customer service (and their outsourcing) is among the worst I have ever had to deal with.
My CHASE bank experiences are another story (also abysmal). These banks in particular were in the very same business practices as the rest of Wall Street and had to be bailed out by the taxpayers, only to be made stronger by giving them other financial institutions (that were not bailed out because they were not to big to fail) for pennies on the dollar such as Washington Mutual, (best bank I ever had) by CHASE N.A. -The plain truth here is; as big banks get bigger they become more bureaucratic, care less for the customer, and more about profits. Please heed my warning.

We had been Citibank MasterCard card holders for 8 years and always paid balance in full each month. Two days ago, my card was declined which puzzled me. I called Citibank after writing a check for my
purchase. The customer service rep said the computers were down for 5 hours call back. I assumed the computer issue may be cause of the rejection. Next day, tried to use it and declined. Made the phone call and was told that due to a credit report we did not meet their new criteria. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told about the same thing. I told her I could not understand because we pay all of our 3 credit cards in full each month to avoid finance charges and are not delinquent in any of our debts. She said she could understand my
distress but this is their new "criteria". I guess they can make more money off of late fees and finance charges. I found their customer Service weak and not helpful...they could care less. Basically a bunch of widget makers. If any of you were past card holders you are aware of the many new cards sent in the mail due to "fraud" possibilities. Last but not least they never sent a letter or called to notify of the
cancellation! My husband and I will NEVER do business with Citibank again.

It is a bank that takes it's own sweet time to credit your money even when you deposit cash!! Amount deposited by cash takes 6 solid days to get credited. Beware this highly horrendous, annoying, ridiculous (and what not) property of citibank can cause cheques to bounce...

Opened internet account . Beware. They made my account so called inactive after 3 months and can not recover my money since.I mailed them activation letter confirmed by notary public , talked even with supervisors - they always find reason not to mail me the check and close account. I have to go 300 miles to free standing branch to get my money back. Never again anything with city logo. You have been warned. Thieves

Never had to deal with such terrible customer service from a bank. The lady on the phone (mind you, I did asked for the supervisor for a dispute) was absolutely unhelpful. Not only that, but she was giving me an attitude. I ended up canceling the credit card because of my frustration with citi's call center. The bad online banking web design isn't helping to keep me with the company either. They should rework the site, especially the layout of the statements and transaction details.

I paid(e-transfer) my Citi card 2 days before the due date and they did not post it to my account until one day after it was due. They then charged me a late fee and changed my apr from 12.26 to 25.99.

They will scam you in any way possible.

Is it a Citibank POLICY or should I say CITIGROUP?? -- to BOTHER, MOLEST, ANNOY and TROUBLE people?

EVERYDAY Citibank calls (using 2 phone numbers) at least 4 to 10 times a day -- this is no lie.

I am sick and tired of them - I indicated to the individual on the phone that they are molesting me but to no avail - they continue to call.

When I see their number I no longer answer the phone - but this is NOT a solution.

NO COMPANY (and noone) has the right to constantly harrass others for business.

Citibank = Citigroup = Very VERY inconsiderate and annoying Bank

Terrible! I opened an account over 3 years ago. Initially I had the Access account and savings account package. No checking, which was fine. Then, a year later, I signed up to change my account to Checking and Savings. They said ok, and they would give me the package where all is free as long as I had direct deposit every month OR online bill pay once a month OR kept a minimum balance. I had direct deposit, so I figured it was fine-no fees. After a year of no fees, all of a sudden, Im charged $3.50 per month for checking and anywhere from $11 to $13 for savings! It wasn't even the same fee amount every month! I called and they were like "oh we did an audit and started charging fees for customers who were supposed to be charged, but weren't. I said no, thats not possible because I signed up for the package that says I don't pay a fee if I have direct deposit or bill pay or kept a minimum balance. The first person I spoke to didn't know that existed. The second person I spoke to said well your account is just a regular account, they were never linked.
What!? I got them to reverse the charges and I switched to a student account. The lady said were you a student when you opened the account? I said yes, then she got upset saying "Why didn't they open a student account then, with no fees ever?!" Flash forward to today. I deposited money on a friday after business hours. It was put on hold, which is weird because my money is never on hold. It is now wednesday and I still have no money, and no one will say why its on hold so long. I called (to India, no doubt) yesterday and she said it would be available today at 7 am. No luck. I called and the lady says, and I quote: "the way I see it, it should be available this evening". WTF?! I have a bill due tomorrow, and the only reason Im not switching banks yet is because my damn money is still on hold. I asked them why do I see a negative 46 bucks, as I keep meticulous records, and I took 60 bucks out AFTER i deposited money. ESPECIALLY when the screen says 100 bucks available now. they say well we process debits before credits. I said, so, even though it said 100 bucks available, and i took out 60, instead of having 40 available, you hold the credit until AFTER im negative and then process it? I said thats shady business practices. He said all banks do it. I said thats bull. You process activity as you get it idiot. Even though it said 100 was available, which means it was processed enough to let me have 100 bucks, i was sent negative, even though on my online activity, the credit was CLEARLY listed BEFORE the debit.

To sum it up:
weird random fees charged out of nowhere
people give bogus answers
shady business practices
baaaad customer service, with the holding and transferring and rude responses
people either not knowing what they're doing, or doing unethical things to get an open account under their belt.
I would stay away. I'm going to WAMU, as soon as my money is off hold

I agree with the last review. I would rate Citibank negative stars if I could. First, I opened my account with Citi by "accident" as a young college student. I was far away from home, and there were Citi employees on campus giving away "free" phone cards for filling out information. I reviewed the application and told the gentleman that I had no interest in opening a credit card account. He told me the application was NOT for a credit card, it was for information only. I told him it appeared to be for a credit card. He assured me that if I filled out the application, I would not be applying for an account with Citi. Young and dumb, I fell for it, but wary, I gave them incorrect phone an email information. I did, however, reveal my correct address, and days or weeks later, I received TWO credit cards from Citi. Yes, two. The one application which wasn't an application for a credit card was actually two applications for two credit cards. Naturally, I chose never to use the cards I didn't want in the first place. One eventually closed due to lack of use, and the other I used in a bind many years later. The interest rate on the card was something outrageous, 21%, I think, so whenever I used it, I payed it off within the month so that I never had an outstanding balance. Several months ago, I went to pay my account online, and received the message that my account had been closed for suspected fraudulent activity and I could not review account activity or pay my balance online. I phoned Citi, and they required me to open a new account before they would allow me to see the fraudulent charges. They also told me my account was past due and I must pay immediately. I told them that 1) I would not pay allegedly fraudulent charges, especially without seeing them and 2) I could not access my account or pay my balance online. They told me I could pay over the phone for a $14 fee. I, of course, refused but begrudgingly opened a new account so that I could have access to a record of the fraudulent activity on my account and a means to pay my legitimate balance. After I opened the new account, I still did not have access to a record of the activity on my old account, just a statement saying I owed them x amount of money and that it was past due. I called Citi again, and they told me to wait - sometimes it takes a while for access to the old account to be aligned with the new account. So I waited. Meanwhile, my past due amount grew and I grew more and more worried that my credit record was being negatively affected. I called Citi once again and they said if I wished, they could mail the appropriate statements to me, but it would take a minimum of another two weeks. At this point, I was exceedingly angry and I argued with them that because they closed my account for fradulent activity (and, btw, did not even bother to notify me) and refused to allow me access to the charges or a means of paying those charges which may have been legitimate without a $14 fee, they should suspend finance charges and make every effort to protect my credit, i.e., suspend reporting past due amounts to credit reporting agencies. At some point, someone I talked to agreed to have the charges reversed but told me it would take a while, and I should wait to hear from them. So I waited. In the interim, I received another past due notice. Still, I had no access to my old account and could not review the fraudulent charges. I called Citi again, and they told me they had no record of the charges being reversed or sent to management for reversal consideration. I argued and argued and, finally, fed up, paid the balance over the phone, including the $14 phone fee, and closed my account. Yet the very next month, I received a statement from Citi stating I owed $1.59 and that it was past due. Again, I had no record of any account activity. I called Citi, and they told me the amount due was the result of finance charges on the last balance. I explained everything, including the fact that I had paid the balance and closed the account, and they said, "If you like, you can pay the $1.59 over the phone now for a $14 fee." So I hung up and, again, just wanting the ordeal to be over with, went to pay the $1.59 online. Only I received a message stating that I had a past due amount and must agree to provide my banking information and permit a monthly withdrawal until my balance was paid off. Worse, I had to check these boxes indicating why I was past due - my options were extremely limited, there was no "other" box, so I told them lies like, I lost my job and will be paying the past due amount out of my 401k. I assume I will continue receiving charges from Citi on a monthly basis and will have some sort of legal battle now that I have "agreed" to let them withdraw money from my account on a monthly basis. I'm sure I will owe new charges every month even though I closed my account months ago. It makes me sick to think of the hundreds of dollars I have paid this company that I did not owe them. Never, ever, ever, ever open an account with Citi. At best, they are unethical. At worst, thieves and liars and so much more.

Be very careful using a citibank credit card or any organization associated with their card (Home depot). My husband applied for the card in order to save 10% on a purchase. We moved soon after and didn't use the card for over a year. He made a purchase of a lousy $13.00 and when we were billed, the bill wasn't forwared because it had been more then a year. They turned it into the credit companies and ruined his credit. Prior to this has credit rating was 800+ and 26 items were in good standing. I have tried unsuccessfully for several months to get them to reverse this judgement and they won't budge. We can bail them out for mismanagement but they refuse to fix our credit due to an obvious mistake.

Citi NRI is the worst website ever built. For one the login is kinda goofy. You have a complex 16 digit login ID that you can mask with a user id. However your user id is mapped to your login id on each computer (Basically I can have as many user ids as I have computers.) You delete cookies and you are back to the drawing board. The password you gotta type in using your mouse using some goofy onscreen keyboard. Then you go to a cluttered screen with over 200 links. God help you if you want to find anything there. If you want support you have to send an email from the support link, however if you send an email from your mailbox you will never get a response. After a week or so somebody responds without reading your question. Keep in mind the response never appears in your mailbox (Your mailbox always shows empty). Once you go to the support link and see the inadequate message, you are required to respond to that message (They call is a query. I guess they think their employees are like databases you execute queries against). However make sure you dont click on any link before you respond; because once a message is read, it is automatically removed from the support link taking away any ability to respond

ACH transfers take from 3 weeks to 6 months (They take money out of your source bank account on the same or next day but take from weeks to sometimes 6 months to credit any information into your account).

The other scheme they have going on is they turn your account into an inactive / dormant status for inactivity (meaning moving money in or out of the account) thereby locking you out of your account and trapping any cash you have in your account. If you want your account to be operational, they ask you to physically go to a branch in California or to one of their offshore offices in India. If you dont you will not have access to your cash. By law they are required to notify you prior preventing you from giving you access to your account. They get around this by changing your account to an inactive status first which prevents you from transacting on your account (even though you can log in normally and look at your balance and stuff giving you an illusion of normalcy). After a further status of inactivity they change it to Dormant totally preventing you from having any access to your account.

Finally in terms of support it is impossible to find a telephone number to their support desk. If you ever need to call CITI NRI Helpdesk their number is 800 248 4674

Overall CITI is a very unethical bank. The most unethical Ive seen so far especially in their international dealings (US Regulators and guarantees have forced them to maintain a certain level of honesty and transparency in the US). Their website is the least user friendly of all websites and CITI NRI is the worst by far of any banking site. Its a mess

I've had credit cards from a number of vendors (Discover, Chase, Citibank, MBNA). This is the worst company I've worked with. I pay off my balance every month (which is probably why they don't like me). I got a Citibank card a little over a month ago and get paperless statements. I went online to pay my bill as I've done with every other credit card I've ever owned. When I tried to set up my checking account information, it asked me for a "secret phrase that I created when I set up my account." No matter what I tried, this did not work. There was a link to "get a hint," but that did not work. Since I signed up for paperless statements, I don't get a bill I can pay by mail. I called customer service to pay off my balance (either with a different credit card or by check - I didn't care), and they told me that there was a $14.95 fee to pay off my balance by phone. Ridiculous! I can't pay by mail, I can't pay online, and they want to charge ~$15 to pay by phone? I've never experienced that with another CC vendor. Their online interface is *absolutely awful*, and I used to have a Chase card!

I'd give them ZERO STARS if it were possible. The worst service ever. Our old local bank was taken over by Shitibank years ago and we thought what the heck, stay with them and give them a shot. They had our savings, checking, and several investment and retirement accounts. The daily banking stuff is substandard but bearable. The investment side-- the pits. We're filing formal complaints. Nearly every single time we had to deal with them-- for example, change allocations, docs for taxes, make annual contributions, etc.-- they screwed up. And not just a little bit. Always a different rep, practically annually. And all except one guy made us feel like we were bothering them when we asked to see them face to face (that's only once a year). Now we've been trying to move our money elsewhere and they keep screwing that up. After 2 months, and having done part of what they're supposed to do, they claim they have no record of ever having received any instructions or documents for this long process. Even though they've done part of it already! Our money is just sitting in a money market account all this time. Citibank truely outcraps every other corporate institution we've ever dealt with.

Do not--DO NOT-- use Citibank for any of your financial or banking needs. I was a loyal customer for more than a decade and had multiple accounts with them--mortgage, home equity, checking, etc. I've just had a long drawn-out dispute with them over a gigantic early-closure fee on my home equity line and they refused to reconsider the fee, and were incredibly rude and difficult to talk with, even though they themselves had arbitrarily changed the policies on the account recently. I've had conversations with Wells Fargo, Washington Mutual, and others and all have vastly better customer service than Citibank. I would never bank with them again.

Citibank does not honor their agreement to reimburse a customer for charges made. I recently had $12,500.00 worth of dental work done to find out 3 months later that all work has to be redone. Not only redone but because of the horrible work performed I now need implants, have a painful jaw, my bite is off and may need braces. Citibank is not honoring their policy of reimbursement for incomplete or work not done right. Now a $12,500.00 which I was price gouged for in the first place will cost me another $20,000.00 to rectify the issue. A job that should have costed $7,800.00 will cost me $32,00.00.

DON'T USE CITIBANK FOR ANYTHING, THEY ARE NOT AN HONORABLE COMPANY!!!

It has become common that Citibank and ABN Amro, Karachi, Pakistan call their customers who have only defaulted on 2-3 installments or payments by continually phoning them at all times (sometimes 50 phone calls) and threatening them of dire consequences if the customer does not pay immediately. They even suggest that the customer BEG, BORROW or STEAL, but must pay immediately at all costs. When a customer cannot pay immediately, he or she are threatened and the staff use derogatory language. When any customer suggests they wait a few months and everything would be settled as the customer is currently facing financial crunch, the reply is that how dare you take loan from Citibank if you cannot afford payback. The customer then suggests to take the matter to Court for recovery of their loan if they cannot wait for 3-4 months, the reply is that they would send goons to visit the house or the office of the customer. The bank usually sends its goons to the customer's premises and embarrasses them in front of their friends and family, A few customers have committed suicide due to continuous nagging. Even though the Courts have taken notice and action against all Banks that take just unethical and illegal means of recovery, Citibank has been blatantly breaking the Court's orders. Citibank staff in Pakistan must stop harrassing, embarrassing, threatening and intimidating their customers. Citibank must be stopped.

Just canceled my credit card with Citibank after they jacked my rate to from 10% to 30% due to their deceptive website that allows you to add a bank-account for payments but not automatically withdraw! There is absolutely no way to sign up automatic payments online! They refused to reduce the rate until i made six months worth of payments. They offered to send me an "auto-pay" sign up packet via regular mail which i would receive in two weeks. Never received. Ironically i can cancel my account online, just not setup automatic payments! CitiBank or ShittyBank? 3/14/08: Heard about offer for 2 airline tickets for opening $1,000 checking and $25,000 savings accounts for 3 months. Phoned local branch and was told that unless I had an invitation by U.S. mail, they could not help me. Went to citibank.com website, saw same offer and 866-899-3342. Phoned and spoke to Jesse in India. I was told that I could fund accounts online as soon as I received Welcome kit. Jesse opened 4 accounts instead of 2 which is where nightmare began.

3/20/08 received Welcome Kit by U.S. mail. Booklet listed 2 accounts. Tried to set-up online account. Not possible without PIN numbers which arrive separately by U.S. Mail. Drove to local branch and deposited $26,000 in cashiers checks. Teller verified them so I could have immediate access to funds. While at local branch someone from India left me a phone message saying to callback 800-745-1534 but did not say why and he left a reference number that was impossible to comprehend due to his poor English.

3/21/08. PIN numbers arrived. Tried to setup online accounts to no avail. Called Customer Service 800-321-2484 (CITI). Spoke to Lisette who told me that the 2 account numbers I gave her were wrong. Hung up and phoned again. Spoke to Emilio. After a brief debate, he said there were 4 accounts and he would fix the errors so PIN numbers matched up to correct 2 accounts. He helped me log into online account and I saw the $1,000 in checking and $25,000 in savings account.

3/23/08. Logged into citibankonline.com and savings account showed $0 instead of $25,000. Made 2 more phone calls. With each call I was given a different story when I explained all the aforementioned. When I asked to speak with a manager, I was told that callback would take 2 to 3 days. Was given automated phone number 866-606-4983 that would supposedly remove security block on savings account. It would not accept my account numbers. Made another call to 800-745-1534 and asked Kumal in India to connect me to a supervisor in United States. Spoke to Mayra who said she could phone me back and that call would remove the block on account. Mayra said it would still take 2 to 3 days before I would see the $25,000 in my savings account online.

Bottom Line: By the time all the Citibank mistakes have been corrected, 2 weeks will have passed and I wasted nearly 3 hours by phone in the process of simply opening a checking and savings account at CitiBank.

Fucking bank. Hell they take bullshit 24 hrs to unblock your account. They block your account if you overdraw by mistake and they never automatically unblock your account even when there is a credit to your account.

With the Sub-prime scandal, CitiBank refuses to assist customers on rolling over accounts to conventional loans. Unlike CountryWide, CitiBank is waiting for the government to force them to make corrective action.

Citibank is crap. CitiGOLD is great. But therein lies the problem.

CitiGold, you pay $25 a month for the top level of service. Honestly, it's change for me. You get American reps who understand and empathize with what you're going through. The problem with CitiGold is that they don't handle the processing; that's done with Direct Banking - the India call center. SO if you're trying to open new products they're the ones who do it. THAT is the problem.

If you want to open accounts, GO TO A CITIBANK CENTER. Trust me, you'll be sorry if you try to do anything online that requires a credit check. Do it at a bank and save yourself the hassle.

I think Citibank is OK. However, as a giant, it lacks perspnal touch. But even then, it depends on whom you are talking to. Try not to call them during times when chances are you will be talking t the Indian call center. In US that would be mornings through noons. In evening chances are you will be talking to a lying unqualified rep in India. If you happen to get one, just hang up and call some other time. You have to always be vigilant with any banking account. Sometimes things may go wrong and getting everything straightened out with a large bank is more difficult then with the local small one. However, if you are consistent, you can resolve the isue quickly. It is important to get the person you understand and who understands you, which is still the same condition that would have to be met in a smaller bank, isn't it? It is a bank after all and not a personal consultation. They make money using your money and thus of course you are a dollar sign for them. The rules are simple: if you don't get what you need, you do not deal with them. I had my accounts closed by citibank by accident, or stuid errors done that would cause my account to be overdrawn by thousands and having munerous bounced checks as a result, but in every case I was able to not only get all fees reversed, but I have gotten apologies and representatives I spoke to were caring and understanding enough. Once a rep even went an extra mile to save my vacation by arranging a fee-free cash advance from my citibank credit card to be posted to my checking account so that I could sithdraw it at an ATP abroad when I was stranded without cash and (of course) no PIN to get a cach advance directly from my credit card. So overall, it all depends on you ability to find the right person and to speak to one efficiently enough so that the situation would be resolved quickly. As for reaching the right person, just do #0, or *0 until the phone prompter decides to connect you to the operator. You pin will most probably be the first 4 characters of "your mother's meiden name" (which does not have to be you mother's name at al by the way) -- try that first if you don't remember regostering any telephone access sodes.

very bad customer service, representatives were poorly trained and in the last case, rude. 2 months after I started using my credit card, they signed me up and charged me a fee for a credit report program that I clearly refused to participate in. When I lost my card, I called for an immediate cancellation, when I called a week later to inquire about receiving my new card, I learned the rep I last spoke with didn't even cancel my account yet.

It is my belief that Citibank is to blame for a large majority of credit card debt. I am not ignoring personal responsibility but Citibank blantly baits and traps consumers. They widley market credit cards with high spending caps and high interest to anyone and everyone, with a primary focus on poor college students. Even those with the best of intentions ("I will only use the card in case of emergency, only for gas, etc.") can be driven to debt by the marketing tactics employed by this company. Citibank keeps 'customers' for life by holding them down in a 'self-created' debt. I know first hand how difficult this company makes it to get back in the black. They charge outrageously large late fees for payments that are so much as a day late and their customer service representatives do the absolute minimum to assist customers. It is for these reasons (& more that have gone unlisted for the sake of space) that I will soon triumphantly cancel my Citibank card and -never- open another account with this company again. It is clear Citibank's only concern is a fat bottom line rather then the growing national credit card debt crisis that exists in this country. Wishing all concerned consumers safe spending!

I am in agreement with all of these reviews. I have unfortunatley accumulated a lot of credit card debt but have been enrolled in a consumer credit counseling program for two years during which I have faithfully paid minus one month when I was unemployed. I take full responsibility for my debt and chose consolidation over debt management so that I could ethically take care of my debt. EVERY company has worked with me with the exception of citibank. Unbeknownst to me they initally accepted my case managers proposal, but changed their minds a few months later. One of their service reps told me they could change their mind at anytime and did not have to let my case manager know. So I accumulated unbelivable late and over the limit fees (I started out with $1100 in debt). I spent a year just getting back to where I was when I started. I ended up being unemployed for a few months and missed ONE payment of $35....they now say I owe $500 in over the limit fees. I have had the complete opposite experience with all other companies who recognize that I am trying to make things right and had no problem extending my agreement by one month given that I have religiously paid (not to mention they've all made some darn good money off of me!) My sister had a similar experience with Citibank and has told all of her friends to never do business with Citibank. I wrote the VP Tom Wingfield and didn't even get a form letter in reply. I am not one who ever complains about customer service, but these guys are unbelievable. I wish there were a way those of us who have been screwed over by this company could collectively get the word out. There are lots more victims to come. I'm open to suggestions!

PS-If there was the option to click no stars I would have done it.

CITIBANK IS THE WORST PERIOD!!! Example:#1- Refinance took 4months/I had to do all the "Redundant" leg and paper work,Citibank arranges closing date,we all get there and attorneys are notified 1minute to closing that CITIBANK doesn't have funds in place and won't until next week (hey, Thanks for the warning!)That cost me $3200. Example #2-Traveling in and try to use Citibank debit/mastercard (my money) and can't! #3-There Bill pay Web site goes down can't pay my bills, now there late, Citibank won't even credit 1day late charges on Citibank accounts, that cost me over $200 in late charges. #4- Equity loan: Told it will take 2-3 weeks tops, well would you believe 2months and still haven't closed! #5-They never pay Insurance or Taxes on time on mortgage's though I elected them to do so, on 2 home mortgages, bad move. #6- There outsourced customer service dept in India is light years beyond bad, you can't understand them and they can't understand you. #7-You ever try waiting on line at there banks to deposit? There's 10 tellers back there yet 1 or 2 are taking customers and theres 1 or 2 people in front of me and it takes 20 minutes!#8-None of there depts talk to each other, its as if there different Companys yet they are all under the same "UMBRELLA" logo. I could go on forever but I won't, all I could say is take it from someone who has been there, if you don't want to stress, Save your hard earned money and deposit it in a bank that is gonna make it work for you because CITIBANK will only spend yours, that's why the recently retired CEO held close to 1 Billion in outstanding stock, not including his Salary. CITIBANK IS BY FAR THE WORST BANK ON EVERY LEVEL KNOWN TO MAN, PERIOD!!!

Citbank contacted me to open a checking and savings account. Normally I reject these emails, but the idea of linking my credit cards (which are also issued by Citibank) and my banking accounts sounded good to me. I opened the account and within 30 days closed it. Citibank has the worst customer services compared to banks like Chase, and Bank of America. I cannot stress how bad their service was. It was as if they wanted me to shut down my account. They did everything to make my life as inconvenient as possible. I actually am considering shorting their stock. Based on similar feedback I have gotten from other Citibank victims, there might be a systemic problem that will impact their financial performance.

One more nit: The outsource their call center to India, which in and of itself is not a bad thing. However, the Indian reps are poorly trained, and I am never comfortable being lied to when someone named Sudhir or Reshma tells me that their name is Jason or Shelly.

CITIBANK is the worst place to get a home loan! We filed for a refi for our home in Feb/2006 and over the past TWO months they've called and asked for more documention over and over, even though it was submitted the first time and or wasn't required. Too much hassle. The customer service line people that weren't able to speak english would leave messages on our answering machine every couple of days. Then we would received letters in the mail, and the represenative from the local bank of where we applied at failed to call us and update us. We were doing so much leg work. My advice: go to a NON-bank like omega (http://www.omegamortgage.net/default.asp). They offer more flexablity and better programs. They are are a memeber of the BBB with a AAA (perfect score) opposed to CITIBANK whom is not a BBB member and has a D rating...

I've been a memeber of Citibank Driver's Edge card since 99. The card agreement states that there is a cashback option for rebates after 5 years. I called to claim my rebates and the customer representative was extremely rude. She said that the program was discontinued three years ago and a letter was sent to me. I told her than I have never received a letter stating the program is closed. She shouted at me repeatedly: "can you hear me? The program is closed. We have sent letters to all cardholders" and refused to let me speak. I was really upset at her attitude and told her that I'd like to close my account so that I will never do business with them. I also asked her to transfer me to someone that I can talk to. A few minutes later, I was transfered to someone equally rude. I can hear their laugh in the background. I told the second customer representative that I would like to talk to her manager and would like to have her name and id. She said that she is the highest level of representative that I can speak to and they do not give out their names. If I would like to complain, she can give me an address to write to. I insisted to talk to someone instead of writing a letter. She laughed and repeated that there is no one I can talk to. After 5 minutes, I gave up and hang up. What kind of customer service this is. I wish a customer is treated with respect. If the program is indeed discontinued, I have the right to know in advance.

Citibank it the worst student loan lending group in the history of academics. Their customer support people respond generically with poor grammar and sentence structure. I have had to ask a simple questions, such as, "Is my loan now in defferment" at least three times before I get a response that somewhat resembles a coherent email. Dealing with them enrages me and I suggest that no one should ever go through it willingly. They are both terrible and pathetic. A true group of morons.

Watch out for a minimum payment SCAM! I just did a balance transffer from another bank to citi to take advantage of a lower APR, but they showed me a lower minimum payment on the website than what I really owed. When I payed i didn't pay enough and the APR went up. I called them to clarify and they corrected the mistake, but I'm thinking something is fishy with all that. It could very well have been intentional.

Citibank sucks! They offer extended warranty protection on certain credit cards but they don't honor it. I had a product that broke after the manufacturer's warranty ran out and after about a month of debating they still refused to provide me with the extended warranty. Their customer service is awful, their phone system will keep you punching numbers for an eternity before you actually reach a real person, and they constantly solicite you after not helping with the original problem you called about. I wouldn't recommend Citibank to anyone. They're too big and don't care about their customers.

I have never had so much trouble with a bank. I had an account in Washington DC for three months before closing it. When I tried to withdraw my money and close the account, Citibank put a hold on my savings account because there had been no activity within the last month. It's a *savings* account -- it's for storing money, not for frequent deposits and withdrawals! It took about 2 months to get my money out, and they sent me statements (showing zero balance) for another 5 months after the account was closed. In addition, the Washington DC staff was surly and unhelpful, and the branch office refused to open until there was a line outside the doors, even if that meant waiting until 9:30 AM. Worst, there is no customer service number listed on any statement or business document -- and it's carefully hidden deep within the website -- so you can't do anything over the phone without your secret telephone banking code, which you can only get at the branch office, which is closed ... Citibank is waaay more trouble than it's worth. Try anywhere else, but especially local credit unions -- they're inexpensive and friendly!

If the Lorax really exists, he needs to go bust down the doors of citibank. They send me pounds and pounds of worthless credit card offers every year. I will never want one of their useless cards and they refuse to stop sending me crap. How many trees have to die for this?
