NO RATING to CITIZENS BANK. IT CHARGES MORE HIDDEN CHARGES WHICH CUSTOMER DOESN'T KNOW. ONCE I UNFORTUNATELY USED $17 EXTRA AND THEY CHARGED ME $125 EXTRA. WHEN I CALLED CUSTOMER CARE VERY FIRST TIME, THEY SAID THEY ARE GOING TO WAIVE $70. BUT WHEN I CALLED SECOND TIME THEY SAID THEY DONT WAIVE THAT AMOUNT AND CLOSED MY ACCOUNT. AFTER THAT I WENT TO BANK TO PAY THE REMAINING AMOUNT THE BANK PEOPLE SAYS THEY DON'T TAKE CASH AND THEY WILL ACCEPT ONLY CASH....
FOR PUBLIC CONVENIENCE, PLEASE DON'T PREFER THIS BANK AT ANY COST. THIS IS ABOUT CITIZENS BANK.

Let me preface this by saying I am so upset right now, I rate citizens a -5 if that is the lowest i can go.

It seems that citizens bank is in business to charge fees. THAT is all they do.. i called up yesterday because they charged me $234 in fees because of a technicality - I made a purchase at a restaurant and the restaurant apparently put a $50 hold for a $20 purchase, which cause a chain reaction that i couldnt catch before putting money in there. I called up yesterday and they refunded $78 dollars and fees, only for me to go on there today to see another $117 in fees for 3 transactions, at the same bar on the same day for a total of $35 when i had $80 to cover it....

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS ANY LEGAL ACTION I CAN TAKE?

This is a terrible bank. I have banked with them for years, but am closing my account. I had my car broken into and my checkbook/debit card stolen, and they charged me to stop the stolen checks!!! Never again, I am done with them.

They don't even deserve a star. Poor customer service. Don't ever try to cancel your account it will be the biggest headache of your life. I would recommend putting your money under your mattress before using Citizens, it would be safer.

Rating: Negative Five Stars. ---Beware of the money making scheme of Citizens Bank!.----- Citizens Bank consistently pushes the use of debit cards for purchases. They make 3% of the transaction value. However, the main earnings Citizens Bank make through the use of debit card use are when Citizens Bank collects $37.00 for every overdrawn transaction on the account. You may already know about it. When you check your account balance at any Citizens ATM machines, the balance you read does not reflect the actual balance in the account. There may be outstanding charges that the bank does not update on a timely basis perhaps due to lack of personnel, or just due to shoddy business practices. If you, the customer having verified the balance in the account, relying on the information provided by Citizens Bank, use Citizens' debit card for purchases, you may find that you have overdrawn your account by cents, or a few dollars. The bank automatically charges you $37.00 for every incident of overdrawn funds. So, you may have overdrawn $1.25 Citizens bank makes the 3% of the transaction value plus the $37.00. The same day you purchase another $5.00 based on the balance provided by Citizens ATM machine, you are charged another $37.00 dollars. This is Citizens Bank preferred money making scheme. BEWARE OF CITIZENS BANK !

I wouldnt rate this bank anything. I called them and told them not to cash a check, stop payment on it, they told me to call them the next day to make sure they did. They did not stop it they paid it in full, and then charged me 234 dollars for fees for not stopping it, because I didnt have enough money in the bank to cover the payment that was supposed to be stopped and my other ones coming in. They sent 2 checks back to the stores which I have to pay the stores for the checks and 70 more dollars for their fees. When we call citizens bank we are told we must have our account handled by our bank manager. She agreed to give back the fees and then didnt. We have tried unsuccessfully to reach our bank manager now. We are always told shes not there. We should be 359 to good and with there fees we are now 544 in the red. Nobody at 3 different citizens bank we called supposedly for help would help us. They didnt return our fees and keep sending back our checks, what kind of bank does that? We went to the bank in person and was told we would have to speak to the manager but shes never there. I wish there was a complaint department that works right away. Banks like this shouldnt be allowed to STEAL from the public. And the banking practices are stealing from us. And all we can do is deal with it cause theres nobody from that bank that helps....I am waiting till I can afford to switch banks. I would never recommend this bank to any one.

when i sit here and read all these complaints about "citizens" stealing money it makes me sick. who started stealing money from who first? do you know why they call it an overdraft fee? Because YOU used more money then YOU had. Citizens bank did not go to the store and swipe that debit card, and they did not write that check that caused you to go negative. YOU did and when YOU do that there is a fee for doing it! have you not realized by this point that there is no such thing as "free" money? i have to notice all the comments relating to the high to low posting and that makes me just as sick. it does not matter how they post it if you use that thing called a ledger and wrote them in the order YOU did them you would know very well when you hit ZERO. Yes i said Ledger. remember that thing in High School that your Math teacher spoke of? you know right about when they went over that whole addition and subtraction thing. Funny addition, subtraction and a check ledger really do get along nicely. if you need the money maybe i can suggest that you allow all those little debit card purchases POST to the account. then go to the ATM request what you need until you get paid and only get one fee not 200.00 dollars. think about YOUR money a little wiser and surely you will realize that it really is not your typical bank.
BTW.. i do work for the bank and i will let you know that when you call us the nicer you are the better the conversation, and more likely the better the outcome for YOU. And please please please please stop calling it your checkings account. there is no "s" is checking!! FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!

Yeh, i am discovering some of the problems with this bank.... I am not going to sound off and go on a rant here as it helps no one. Plus hey, we are all human.... We all make mistakes.... I think i have seen a mix here of rude people implying others are too stupid to do basic math, and people who need to stay better informed as to what is going on 'behind the scenes' so to speak. Yes i have had my issues with their over draft nonsens. I find it insane when people claim they should be charged a dollar fee only for such a thing. At the same time.... Come on now, a law needs to be made that only a single charge can be applied in such a situation. I also think a law should be made that charges must appear in the order they were made. But that is just my personal opinion and i realize no such laws presently exist. I can't help but thinking.... They would exist if the 'citizens' demanded them! They would exist if we were calling our congress people with complaints. They would exist if we complained to various places and published more visible statements in local magazines and shamed these banks such as Citizens, not into forfeiting their right to a profit, but in their right of fullfilling every single one of their greedy ambitions atleast. If there is a problem the fault does not lie with Citizens. It lies with you and me and everyone else who sits whining here but does not seek to actively start a dialogue with eachother and put what money is left after the rip off fees (of which not all are, some are actually quite fair.) into shutting the money tap off, unless our money is somehow actually being used by the bank to fund the things we rely on them for. I do not resent paying fees of that nature. I do however resent the deliberate greed happiness where 1 mistake is penalized a half dozen times or even twice is too much. Now on another issue.... I am presently outside the USA. I am currious about certain things related to POS charges and what the charge for those happens to be. I am also curious as to why i had to pay the bank over $30 for the single debit for my new computer.I am not ready yet to enter a verdict on this issue as i the only damning thing i can find so far is lack of information. Which is a bit troubling. But someone must know something. It could have to do with exchange rates orrr.... I have no idea. But i am not a bank employee. I don't know what the bank's costs were for this debit which is why i am asking about this rather than screaming and ranting like a lunatic. Make no mistake, i am not happy about it. I am less happy finding no information about this phenomina. I also noticed tonight that the cost of POS (when card is used as a credit card rather than debit) are being charged at atleast 3% of the amount of purchase... I am wondering what is known about this also as well as what the exchange fee relates to and weather the bank is charged a flat rate and how much? I am curious to know what percentage of what i am charged is legitimate and what percent is not should any of it be not legitimate that is. I just don't know. The lack of information though is making me a bit suspicious. If anyone knows anything about this issue as well as this other thing i have actually noticed. Foreign ATM balance inquiries! I did find information on a charge for those but it claimed the charge was 99 cents. Yet, it shows my account is charged 2 dollars for each one.... I am wondering how old that information is and if it is still accurate? So many questions, and so few answers.... Well if anyone knows anything about these things.... Please do let me know as i would be interested in the information. Thank you.

Fraudulent charges made to our credit card were mishandled by RBS (Citizens Bank) to an extent I have never experienced in my 66 years career. The fraudulent charges were either entered by RBS not checking the origin or it was simply entered by RBS itself by mistake they could not catch. The card which was used has never once been used on the Internet for any purchase; therefore the lack of security came from RBS itself by simply allowing any card number to be used in the transaction, which happened to be ours. We immediately cancelled our account and we advice everyone in the entire world to do the same. This bank has no security measures at all and its credit card division should be closed down.

Citizens bank deserves no stars. They have frozen my two business acounts, and two personal accounts with not so much as a letter or phone call. These accounts are in no way related, one is personal and the others corporate. The only answer I can get is that "your accounts are frozen", a fact that I am painfully aware of.

They have $6000 of mine and have held me, my family and employees hostage with out one word of explaination. I do not owe them any money so I do not understand how they can legally keep me from my cash. I will close my accounts, but at the moment the won't do anything.

This is the worst bank EVER!! I recently changed banks, leaving the money I still owed in my citizens bank account for bills that still haven't gone through. On the 31st of April, money had been taken out of my account for a car payment that I no longer had and my account with them had been shut down. I immediately called citizens to tell them that the money wasn't suppose to be taken out, and that now the account will go into the negatives; I want it dealt with. They told me they couldn't do anything about it, except send me forms for them to do an investigation. I was told it would take 3 business days to get to me. 1 week goes by and nothing. I call the closest branch to ask them whats going on, the person on the phone tells me he has no clue what to do and just checks it out. He tells me after 1 week they just barely sent the paperwork to the right department and I should finally receive the paperwork in 2 business days. After 2 business days, nothing. I call the local branch again and tell them I want to speak with a branch manager. At this present time, I had a random check from one of my past bills put money into the account; which I will never see that money now. The branch manager tells me that after 2 weeks of waiting, I could just come into the bank and fill out the paperwork. WTF!!! I'm furious that this wasn't an option for me to do when I called the same branch about a week and half ago. She also tells me that I can't receive the check that was suppose to be in a form of a check. Not only that, they charge me $35 for the money to be put into the account. Then they throw over $100 in insufficient fund fees on my butt. I have been with this bank for more then 3 years, and every year they bleed me dry. Giving me over $150 in insufficient fund fees when I wasn't even in the negatives, then not giving me the money back. I looked at my statement one day online and printed it out to show the bank that they were in the wrong. As soon as I called the bank to tell them I have proof of what they did, they immediately changed my statement online. Past days that have been there for 3 days, now had amounts put on them. WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE DO THAT? ILLEGALLY CHANGING A BANK STATEMENT SO THEY CAN TAKE YOUR MONEY. I found out from another bank that it's federal law, that if money is taken from your account and it wasn't suppose to; you have 60 days for your bank to fix the issue. I called my bank about this law and they told me the other bank lied. Why would 3 other banks lie to me about a federal law? Yes I asked her this, and she changed her story right after. "Well sir if you called 2 weeks ago on the day it happened we could of done something about it." I F%^KING DID, what a lie. DO NOT USE THIS BANK, PLEASE FOR YOUR OWN SAKE AND YOUR FAMILIES SAKE; DON'T USE THIS BANK.

I had several big problems with this bank and have closed out my accounts. First when I opened the checking/savings it took a really long time for them to finally send my statement. Like months...then the statement came with only the savings account on it, I do not use the checking very often, but it was very strange. They also gave me misleading information about 3 year rising rate cd packages. The landlord for the building I work in also dropped them as their bank because they kept saying there was no fee for checking and then they would charge them for it.

This is the worst bank EVER! They don't even deserve one star. I have a membership at a gym where they take money from your account every month. They did this on the wrong day then was agreed upon. The bank gave me overdraft fees for $79.00. I had my gym fax a letter explaining the mistake they made to a certain person that requested one and they claimed after 4 attempts that they never received any fax. I was stuck with that. Then, just this week. I knew I had checks about to clear. I went to the bank after work around 8PM and made 2 large deposits to cover the amount that had just come out that day. All transactions were done in the same day. I thought I was good. The very next day my deposits had not cleared yet and I was issued 2 $39.00 overdraft fees. My one deposit was CASH! That should have cleared and it didn't. I NEEDED that money in there. I call the bank only to get hung up on 6 times! Finally I get the most rude and unhappy man ever! He refuses to help me. He tells me lies. He tells me deposits including cash and checks from Citizen's Bank can take up to 4 days to post. That's outrageous! He hangs up without even saying goodbye. I hate this bank with a passion. They charge you overdraft fees for every one penny you go over, literally. I went over 5 cents and was issued an overdraft fee for $39. They would not take it back. They tell me to get overdraft protection which I agree to, only they keep denying me due to my history with them. Why even offer it then? Why would the money hungry slobs of Citizen's Bank want to cut off one of their main sources of profits? They pick on the middle class workers. I have direct deposit of a salary. I get paid the exact same amount on the exact same days each month and still I get slammed with ridiculous overdraft fees. This year alone I have paid out over $2000 in overdraft fees. I keep saying I am going to go to another bank and then don't. This time, I'm out! I hope their horrible disgusting business burns down and goes bankrupt. That might happen now that I'm leaving. They are bank Nazi's. I am blacklisting them! BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Highly dissappointed with Citzens. I went on January 18 to open a checking account. Filed out all the work and deposited a check. They said everything is set and they will mail out my checks and debit card within 7-10 business days. So about a full week later I get in the mail a letter from Citizens that is confirming that I recieved my card and checks? No I did not! I called and they sent them to my old house, that I have not lived at for over 10 years!! How can they get the confirmation letter sent correctly but not the materials?! Then they go ahead and cancel all that and send out a new check order and card. I wait about 2 weeks and still did not recieve anything. So then I call and they say they printed my old address on the checks, btu sent them to my current address. Never recieved them though. So called back and they had no clue as to where the card and checks are. So they cancel them all and mail me a new set. I got the debit card but not the checks. I got the card last Wenesday. I still have yet to recieve the pin so it is useless. Also the checks still have not arrived. I am beyond furious at this point. Citizens is awful, I am very upset with this whole ordeal.

I tried to deposit a $30,000 check into my savings account on January 2. I was told by the representative at Citizen's that it would take up to 10 business days and cost a fee of $5.00 because it was drawn on a Canadian bank (the check was from a Canadian company). I live in a border town so this kind of transaction should be second nature to any bank in the area. Canada is not exactly a "foreign" country.
The next day a fee of $30.00 was withdrawn from my account for "processing". When I called they said they would refund the $25.00 but had no reason why it was charged in the first place. It is now January 15. The check still has not posted to my account. After much calling around and chasing down people at Citizens over the last week I came to find out that the check would take over 4 weeks to process. Then I was told by another rep that the check was returned to me "via regular mail" on January 4th and no one could tell me why. I have lost hundreds of dollars due to the flux in the exchange rate over the last couple of weeks all because of the incompetence of Citizens bank. Not to mention I STILL do not have my check back. What kind of bank sends checks for $30,000 through regular mail? I am so frustrated with the customer service and lack of accountability at this bank that once I get this check back (and who knows how long that could take) I am going to close all my Citizen's Bank accounts. Serves me right for trying bank at the grocery store. Take my advice. Find another bank. I would give it zero stars if I could.

I can not begin to describe how upset and robbed I feel. I notified Citizens Bank at the beginning of December that a fraudulant charge was made to my account. I was told that I had the option of either filing a report or trying to get the money back myself from the bank. They said that he process would take 10 days with Citizens and that I would be better off if I tried to contact the bank directly (who took the money). Because I had already been overdrafted because of this fee and the unauthorized transaction, I was natually scared and was afraid to wait the 10 days (at that time I was not told that if I would have filed the claim I could have recovered all of my nsf fees).

To make a long story short, I contacted the original bank who withdrew my account and insisted that they return it to me immediately. They did but in the mean time (2 days) while I waited for these funds to arrive my account kept accruing more and more charges. I on SEVERAL occasions told Citizens of the incident. I offered them emails that I exchanged with this company. The Company admitted fault. CITIZENS WOULD NOT HELP. Instead I dealt with customer service reps who were either unwilling, uneducated, or simply unauthorized to help me. My overdraft fees were well over $1000 paychecks would be deposited and disappear. To add insult to injury, I requested the number to Citizens Legal Department. They refused to give it to me. They gave me an address that I was instructed to write a letter to and that would open a file.

What they are doing is fraudulent. First they did not tell me that if I would file the fraud claim I could regain some of the fees. Second, They KNEW far in advance that this was not any fault of my own and they would not even do anything to assist me in stopping these accessive fees they were charging.

I agree that we as consumers NEED to be responsible but I also feel that if a company knowingly sees that this is of no fault of your own and they CONTINUE to charge and collect fees from consumers they are no better than a common thief. Actually they are worse because the cute little commercials that they run are completely a misrepresentation. It is my intention to close this account, and contact and begin legal action immediately regarding this. I am sure that I am not the first or only person that this has happened to, but this has financially hurt my husband and I that we have not only been charged all of these fees from Citizens, we are unable to pay our current bills that are due now because of this financial burden.

And for the record, my husband and I are both well educated, working middle class with two children. We are not litigious and have never done or considered anything like this, but we were to the point that we were trying to scrape up money to pay these fees that at one point (as embarrassing as this is, we had to charge a gallon of milk!) They robbed us of our own money then punished us some more by adding fees that occurred because of there fees. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! Any advise would be GREATLY appreciated.

Because of the 2-3 day DELAY in processing "credit" transactions on a Citizens Bank Debit Card, I got screwed out of 462 DOLLARS. I racked up about 60.00 is over drafts before this, the only problem was, they were all small 5-10 dollar purchases, I got hit with a 38 dollar fee for every small 5 dollar transaction I made , all the way up to 60 bucks. Thats incredible!!!
NEVER DO BUSISNESS WITH THIS BANK, as soon as I get this all paid off, i'm switching banks.

Listen People. Some of you people are unreal. Step one. Know what your banks funds availablity procedure is first of all. I have looked at this banks procedure and it is that funds are made available the next business day as long as your deposit is made before the days work is submitted for processing. This is actually slightly more leaneant than a lot of banks. Step Two. Dont play games with the banks money. You people talk about the bank steals your money. What do you call it when you make purchases and float your checks and Debit card Purchases thinking you will have money at a certain time. Then your mad when the purchase you made gets processed in two days. Boo Hoo. You people are trying to cheat the system and instead of going to jail for writing bad checks you are eating fees. These things I talk about are simple banking things you should know before you even open an account with a bank. I bank with this bank and they are fine. I would be willing to bet that the most of the people that are complaining had problems with other banks and now cant get a checking account anywhere else. Oh yeah and this bank actually helps out a lot in the community and trys to conform more towards the "little people." Good bank, A LOT of Crappy customers!!

Please watch out for this bank. They tend to get really sneaky around the holidays when people tend to spend more and not pay a lot of attention to their account. They just stole $152.00 from me. I deposited my pay check on Saturday and online it shows that it cleared on Monday....also showed me $152 in insufficient funds charges on that same day. Not anywhere does it show that I was in the negatives. I had $1000 in there. ($90 just prior to my deposit.) When I called them to inquire about it, they told me that on that Monday they only gave me $100 of my paycheck and then gave me the rest on Tuesday. They charged me for 4 items at $38 a clip. The money was there but they were holding it???? So, I asked them to avoid this in the future, I need to find another bank where I can cash my paycheck and then get back in my car and travel to their bank to deposit nothing but cash? Her reply was "Yes and no." Whew, good answer. Then "as a courtesy" they decided to split the difference with me and credit me back $76.00. Well, if I need to go somewhere else to "CASH" my paycheck I might as well open a new account elsewhere. What a bunch of idiots.

First let me start by saying that I have worked for citizens bank. I've worked at a local branch for 2 years and when I moved in 2004, I continued to work in a customer service department for 3 months. Citizens Bank is the worst bank to work for. Let me first say that I am not a disgruntled ex-employee. Citizens bank provided me with a job and the hourly pay was good. The customer service department is horrible. And the scariest part of it all is that upper-management is well aware of this. I've actually seen managers laugh over the phone at people inquiring about over-draft fee's. Also for the record, Citizens Bank's hiring process is flawed. They provided minimal training to these customer service reps! I've never banked with them and from what I have seen with my own 2 eyes, I never will.

This bank is pure suck, 100%. No doubt about it, Citizens Bank are shysters. You are better off with your money under your bed than in this bank. At least it will not be fee'd to nothing. I think this is their official banking policy:

"See that dollar bill you have in your account? Well we at Citizens Bank, you see, we decided to take that dollar. We figured that since you are already broke, you wouldn't notice. Oh and if you use our card anywhere that cards are accepted in the ATM machine, well then we are going to take some more dollars. We'd like to thank you loyal customer, for giving us so many of your dollars, and for not demanding any of them back. Also, we like that you don't care about inflation rates and you are perfectly fine to leave your money in our bank at 0% interest. That is great for you! Have a day."

Go to www.ingdirect.com and open an Electric Orange checking account. It comes with a ATM card that ou can use at many ATMs with no fee. They even give you a map of the closest ATMs. They will send payments electronically as commanded. They will also send out paper checks as commanded and you won't even have pay for the stamp to mail it. You will earn 3.93% interest on your money, to help you keep up with inflation. You can link this checking account to a savings account with slightly higher interest rates and electronically move money between the accounts immediately (no 1 day delay crap). A much better deal all around.

A five dollar fee for currency exchange.
Obscene overdraft fees that led to more overdraft fees. They kept shoving through checks that clearly could not be processed, and charging more and more fees. Want to stop payment on the checks? A $25 fee for each. So $75 more dollars atop the FIVE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY I paid in the last two weeks. Almost my entire 1000 dollar check went to fees from the bank that is a symbol of white collar crime. Stealing money from the poor. Opening my account with this bank was one of the worst decisions I have ever made.

I don't care how anyone puts it. Charging close to $40 per overdraft transaction is a system set up to screw people over. End of discussion And this bank is THE WORST!

Citizens Bank sucks. They charged me over $1000. in fees last month. It was like a vicious cycle. Because of the initial fees, more debits got charged fees. And I could'nt keep up. Every time I got paid they swallowed all my money with fees. and I could' nt pay the next bills that were due. I am closing my acount and going to a local bank. They are really "Not your typical bank", yeh right!!

Seems like since your an inside bank person you know what your talking about you bank with citizens with a pay check to pay check life style and try surviving.

its impossible for citizens to every do some constantly. For example, I have 300 in savings 100 in checking they are linked in one day I have 200 transactions totaling 401$ according to citizens the transactions at 101 up are posted for a fee of 38 after the 3rd it goes up. then after 5 days you get another penalty.

sure I shouldn't have overdrawn my account that 1$ but I should not have been charged for more than 1 fee. NO QUESTIONS ASKED!

Just for my money being in the bank they earn tons of interest on it.

And I know for a fact those customer service people who get yelled at, get paid very well. while were here trying to make ends meet and we cant even do that cause our bank want to add up all transactions at the end of business.

CITIZENS BANK IS TERRIBLE!

FIND A CREDIT UNION they are great

0 Stars for this bank, They do in every way manipulate transactions, debits and all to give you a $38 over draft fee. I live check to check and lately this bank has cost me about $370 per month to do business with them, the best part is when I talk to a teller, they have these F-ed up policies to hold the little guy down. Stay Away from Them

The absolute most criminal, low life bank. They really do manipulate your transactions in order to overdraft you. I closed my account and they did not send my mega rewards debit card and the made me pay for it. Now they have no record of my account!

Please DO NOT bank with Charter 1!!!!

OK all banks charge over draft fees for items that can not be paid in full when payment is being requested. And yes it sucks they charge a fee for ea item, but you shouldnt be using money you dont have.

And to my knowledge all bigger banks post highest to lowest (I know BOA, Wells Fargo and Washing Mutual do) they tend to do this because the bigger percentage of customer would rather a small debit card purchase over draw their account than have a mortgage payment get rejected and returned causing you to be late and effect your credit rating.

Now you may not agree with it but if you know your bank does this, all the more reason to make sure you dont overdraw your account right?

Banking really isnt a hard concept to grasp. If you only have 50.00 you ca not spend 51.00 or 75.00 you can only spend 50.00 and if you spend more you will have a fee.

So if you dont want to pay fees dont spend more than you have. And how do you ensure you dont go over?

Well keep a register or ledger with you, and every debit card purchase, atm with draw, automatic payment, check you write or deposit you make write it down as you do it and either add it or subtract it from the previous balance, and before you do the next check the register to see if you have enough, if not then dont do it.

Remember when you swipe your debit card, the bank is approving that transaction based upon what it show at the very sec, so if there is an outstanding check that hasnt come in the bank doesnt know it is a factor to your balance at this point so they dont know to say no to the debit card purchase. This is why we need to take ownership of our accounts and how we spend our money.

Only we know what we spending our money on as we do it, the banks only know as the items come in, so if a compnay is slow to collect the bank is not at fault for allow other things in or approving them.

Please see I am not trying to mean but trying to provide you with the knowledge I have learned by having an account for 30 yrs.

I am convinced that Citizens Bank is staffed by clones of Ebeneezer Scrooge..."Let the poor die and decrease the surplus population". They are bona fide highway robbers. I too have been victim to the old debit switching scheme. They take one OD, switch incoming debits from largest to smallest and turn one OD into 15 OD's. And they don't even have to use mirrors to do it! We can also thank The United States Congress for allowing this raping of the American people to occur. I'm sure that Citizen's Bank helps fill their coffers. Face it, if you are middle income....your screwed and Citizens Bank has simply found a way to do it better than anyone else. The sad part is that we, with our pitance little checking accounts and our 25.00 savings accounts mean nothing to them. So leaving their bank only leaves them more time to suck up to rich people. Only when we all stand up and say no more will things ever change. Then maybe Citizens Bank will relise that it was the little guys that kept them floating all along.

Citizens Bank is a nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stay Away!!!!!!!!! All I wanted to do is open achecking account and that turned into a month long ordeal were I could not access my money and ended up being late on all my bills and nortgage. I made the mistake of trying to make my first deposit through an ATM and that caused it to go into fraud status so my account was frozen. I couldn't take any money out of it, even though my work direct deposit was going into it. I was told it was going to be frozen fro two day, then five days, then 10 days and it ended up being 30 days for checks I deposited which clead in ONE day. This has beem such a disaster I'll never complain about Bank of America again.

To say that if you keep better track of your finances you won't have a problem is so overly simplistic it amazes me that someone could even take that position. People make mistakes, and banks, like Citizens Bank, have positioned themselves to not only take advantage of those mistakes but also to maximize their profits by practicing the "art" of misrepresenting account balances and processing highest amount debits first. Because of these practices, one simple mistake can result in numerous overdraft fees. By the time you realize you made the mistake, it's too late. It is nothing short of arrogant to take the position that the problem is the fault of the the customer, not the predator. If we can excuse these practices, then we can also excuse every con man that every existed. It's all Flim Flam no matter how you cut it.

For an amount of 16.19 I was charged almost $200 in overdraft fees! I do think that's a bit greedy, as well as underhanded as the very next transaction was a deposit to cover the debits from my account. The only consolation I got from Citizens was to advice to manage my account more accurately. Screw you!

Citizens bank is the worst. I have been a member of Visions Federal Credit Union for 7 years and never had to call them once. I have been a member of citizens for 2 weeks and have called over 10 times. I have experienced nothing but problems with this bank. The customer service staff is very incompetant.

I have been banking with Citizens for the last 6 years, I have my personal account there and 3 business accounts. after speaking with a branch president, I will be closing all my accounts. It seems that Citizens is now using something known as high to low posting along with a non-optional overdraft protection; meaning they will allow you to withdraw money, write checks, and use your debit/credit card even if there is no money in the account...for a small fee of $39 per transaction. Moreover, they are no longer posting transactions online until the close of business. The reason...to increase the chance that their customers will overdraw their accounts in order to impose their service fee. Is it legal, the FTC says yes, is it ethical...you decide.

Citizens bank has a hidden motive, they want to mis-represent the funds in your bank account and trick you into over drafting so you will have to pay the fees. College kids, poor people, etc. that are living paycheck to paycheck are robbed of hundreds of dollars every year due to CBs policies.

How do they do this? Its simple they dont accurately show your available balance. If you purchase toothpaste for $2.00 from rite-aid with your citizens bank debit card , the day you purchase it will be deducted from your available balance (supposing your balance was $10, it then becomes $8). The next day your available balance will be back to what it was before you purchased the toothpaste ($10). Where did the toothpaste charge go? Its being hidden from you, Citizens Bank is hoping that you will forget about the toothpaste you purchased, along with some of the other stuff you might randomly purchase over the next couple days. It gets worse Citizens then posts the items that you purchased on your debit card over the course of a few days(sometimes a week) all at once on one day in descending order by cost. So that means if you over drafted by $5.00 you might end up paying several overdraft fees (Citizens charges you OD fees by each transaction made in the negative). Let me illustrate

Date:Charges | Account Balance
Tuesday: Songs from iTunes - 3.00 | $67.00
Chewing Gum - $1.00 | $66.00
Dinner @ Bombers - $28.00 | $38.00
Wednesday: Gas for your car $25.00 | $13.00
Beer: 12.00 | $1.00
Thursay: Chap-stick - $1.00 | $0.00
Hair gel - $5.00 | -$5

Total purchases: $75
Account Balance: $70

It looks like you over-drafted when you bought the Hair-gel. Which you could consider your fault but at the time Citizensbank.com showed that you had $56 as your available balance thats because they were hiding Tuesdays transactions from you. You would assume that you would be responsible for one over-draft fee at this point. Thats actually not the case because I said earlier they will post the transactions to your actual account balance on Friday in descending cost order.

Date:Charges | Account Balance
Friday: Dinner @ Bombers - $28.00 | $42
Gas for your car $25.00 | $17
Beer: 12.00 | $5.00
Hair gel - $5.00 | $0.00
Songs from iTunes - 3.00 | -$3.00
Chewing Gum - $1.00 | -$4.00
Chap-stick - $1.00 | -$5.00
Overage Fee($39 x 3) | -$122.00

My suggestion to you, if you are a member of Citizens bank is to leave (if you are not a member, dont ever join). If you have to stay with CB, avoid using the debit card to make purchases. Use cash, ATM withdrawals post immediately. If you have to overdraft, go to the ATM and withdraw a sufficient amount of money to cover your needs this way you will only have to pay one overdraft fee. Example: Over drafting once by a hundred dollars or once by 30 cents will cost you the same amount.

For awhile Citizen's motto was "Free not fees" how ironic when they charge $39 for every overdraft fee.

I was a member of Citizens Bank for 2 years. I was routinely in the bank offices arguing the fees off my account because they were completely ridiculous. That said I estimate that over the past two years Citizens stole over $1000 from me in fees. You might say thats my fault for being stupid, for not keeping track of finances but even when I worked hard to keep track of my account I still would overdraft now and then due to CBs deceptive tactics. Many of my friends, and two of my relatives have also experienced the wrath of citizens bank.

The worst bank-loan company ever. My employer went out of business in June, I took odd contracting jobs. In December the money dried up so I could not make my car payment on time. It was due on the 23rd of the month. When January rolled around I closed my IRA and took a big tax hit so I could pay me debts. The 2nd week of January I called them and told them I would send the payment with January's payment (early I might add) to catch it up. Mid January I called them and paid electronically over the phone EVERYTHING I owed, including the January payment which was not due for another week. Today Jan 29th I get a letter advising of default because I did not pay the a lousy $13.00 late fee. Can you believe that? They actually said that if the fee and Feb. payment were not paid by the 23rd of Feb, they may exercise their right to repo my car. When I was on the phone with them there was no mention of a late fee, in fact I was told I was okay. I called them again and gave the lady hell, then I started a blog www.citizens-bank-horror.blogspot.com about this mess. These guys are crooks and cons.

Citizens / Charter one banks are the worst. They will not work with you if youve lost a job and need some temporary help. My wife lost her job a few months back and we called to see if we could get a deferred auto loan payment for 1 or 2 months until we get back on our feet.
Their reply was: SORRY, IF YOUR UNEMPLOYED THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO TO HELP, BUT CALL US BACK WHEN YOU HAVE ANOTHER JOB AND THEN WE CAN DEFER A PAYMENT OR TWO.
Duh, if we had a job we would not need the deferment help.
Anyone that says this is a good bank either works for them, is related to someone working for them or is on glue.
I will say that once my wife is working again, the only reason I will be calling them back is for a close-out balance to refinance at our local credit union.
Citizens / Charter one banks are cold and suck big.
