Our mortgage company STOLE our home!!!!!
We'd been in our home for over 11 years and had NEVER been late on our mortgage payment when around Oct 2007 we received a notice of intent to foreclose from World Savings. When we called, they claimed they had no record of our last three payments. When we presented them with PROOF that these payments HAD been made, they claimed that the payments had been placed in an unapplied holding account due to an alleged $300 short stemming from our Sept. 29 payment.. Problem with this is 1st: the payment in question was made using automated phone payment system which is set up to take nothing short of FULL payment, so if there was a short, it would have been entirely due to bank error. 2nd: they began 'holding' payments not in Sept, but in AUGUST!!! 3rd: our contract states that short payments would be applied to the outstanding balance, not placed in an 'unapplied holding account' and FORGOTTEN while they foreclose on our house!!!! (World was sued in a class action suit for losing client payments, which we discovered too late to join. World had lost at least six of our past payments over the years, some of which we had proof of, the others we just had to pay again)
We attempted to make payment (again) online, as we usually do, but found that we were unable to access our account, we tried calling World Savings but received a message that World Savings was now Wachovia, so we went to what used to be the World Saving branch, with more than enough money to cover at least three months' payments but Wachovia reps claimed that World accounts had not been transferred to Wachovia so they could not accept payment. We made numerous attempts to rectify our account but World could not be reached and Wachovia continued to refuse payment in full, maintaining that World accounts had not been transferred to Wachovia, so they could not accept payments for World Savings accounts.
Months later, we received a reinstatement quote from Wachovia. We were relieved that they seemed to finally have retrieved our account, but when we called to make payment, they again refused, claiming that they did not have the World accounts!!!! I have an email from Wachovia stating this very thing, dated 8 days after the reinstatement quote!
This has been going on for over a year! Wachovia sent several more reinstatement quotes over the following months but every time we attempted to make payment, they claimed that they did not have the World accounts, so could not accept payment, or they would refuse to tell us anything at all. We wrote inquiries about once a month but received only vague form letters stating that it would take them up to 30 days to research the matter, and still we never received any answers. They put our house up for auction on Aug, 18, 2008 (it went back to the bank), they came to the door the following day and gave us 3 days to vacate, saying that the sheriff would come to throw us out and they'd sell all of our belongings. We divided our four young children amongst the grandparents and they lost their places in school, all falling behind and traumatized. We are self-employed and run our business from our home. I am management, customer service, graphic designer and marketing director, but since I've been spending up to 12 hours a day fighting Wachovia, our business has suffered as well. Our credit is ruined, our business is sinking like the Titanic, our children have all fallen behind in school and all of us have been severely traumatized. Weve been camping out in our house, with most of our belongings in storage. We were to go to trial Nov 12, 2008 on unlawful detainer, but Wachovia's attorney claimed the judge would likely give us 24 hours to vacate and Wachovia would give us 40 days (until Dec. 22) we agreed to the latter instead of going before the judge; assuming we would be able to retain an attorney by then. If we lose our home, we lose our business and will have no means of getting back on our feet; we will have nowhere to go. In short, our lives will be over.
We have hard-copy documentation proving all allegations. Every document theyve sent has further served to prove that they are entirely at fault.

PIRATES!!
p.s. someone needs to add either a no stars option or negative stars. Wachovia would get negative 5!

I checked my account before I had made three purchases totalling $15.51. I later wrote a check for $10.00. The purchases had cleared and I had a positive account. I checked again yesterday and Wachovia had charged me $140 in fees for $25 worth of purchases! I am DONE! I can't take it any more! They are the scum of the earth! I call the guy and he tells me that he can only give me $35 back. Customer service (and I use that term loosely) then tells me that the online banking system isn't an accurate depiction of transactions. Are you kidding me? I wrote the corporate office and they sent me this really, really nasty letter saying that they are not to blame for my irresponsibility. I was not the least bit surprised that Wachovia was one of the first banks to start having problems. It isn't a bank, it is an extortion outfit! I wish I could give it negative stars!

I am so livid right now. I had my PNC debit card "stolen" via a skimming job and was taken for hundreds before I realized what had happened. This was, conveniently, 1 week before Christmas. I am a single mom and finally have my head above water and doing okay, so this was really a blow for me. Anyway, PNC was great in crediting me back the money, but obviously my debit card was cancelled and another reissued to me. In the meantime, I took about $900 and put it in my back-up Wachovia account so that I would be able to use it for purchases. I really balanced carefully, checked the account online daily, and called for a balance update every single time that I used the account. I received my new PNC card and thought I had about $30 left in the Wachovia account.

The day after Christmas, I check the account and it says that I have a negative balance. I was shocked. I had purchased an Amazon gift card online a week prior and though it looked to have been deducted from my balance when I checked my account, apparently it hadn't. Though I was skeptical, I felt that I had made a mistake and so when I called Wachovia and was told I was charged an overdraft fee. Okay, fine. I check this morning before I plan to go to the bank to deposit money and I see my account balance is NEGATIVE over $300!!! Apparently the large Amazon charge was deducted first, then I had 6 other charges which totalled $28 (yes, I use the card for buying coffee or small things like a bagel or gum). Basically, had they deducted the small fees first, I'd have been charged one overdraft fee. Instead, they took me for $35 SIX TIMES.

I absolutely understand that I owe a fee. But not six of them. I feel it's absolutely outrageous as I've been a Wachovia customer for 4 years and have never had an issue with them. I called CS and was credited back $58. Great. I still owe them over $200!! I really feel like a victim here. I have so good about balancing and checking and making sure to be responsible with my money. I suppose I made a mistake, though I do feel that there was an error with the website in that the holds were not accurate. But I know I should been more careful and I take responsibility. I am just so upset right now.

I am going to pay Wachovia back and then I'm closing the account. F them.

I am livid. Wachovia needs to get shut down by the BBB. I am sick and tired of their overdraft fees because they hold your purchases right before a direct deposit hits. I am advocating for a petition to shut them down or a class action lawsuit. They are horrible!!!

I left wachovia bank a couple months ago and I am still haunted by their stupidity. We had money in our account. My husbands last check was indeed in our account and counted as available balance. They claimed that the reason why we were still getting charged overdraft and nsf fees (for purchases and checks that they bounced) were because "technically" the money isn't suppose to be in our account until tuesday at midnight (five days from when we deposited it:). If our account claims that the money is in there..then shouldn't it be in there? They used that money that we had in there to pay for all of those insane fees that they gave us...almost 400 dollars worth of fees. So, anyways, we reported them to BBB and they refunded us most of our fees (excluding a 35 dollar overdraft fee for a 6 dollar charge that misteriously reappeared on our account almost six months after it was made conveniently at a time when our account was overdrawn: I wonder how oftain that happens?)(by the way, we don't even live in that same state and never made that same carwash purchase twice, so I don't know what they were trying to pull). They also sent us a letter saying "sorry for our miscommunications". Wait, so now what about all of the companies that had our checks bounced? The bank of course doesn't care about that...it was our problem not theirs...our miscommunications. They really hate to take responsibility for their evil action. So now, two months later, with screwed up credit and higher interest rates on everything else...I am still saying to myself...I REALLY HATE WACHOVIA. I wouldn't reccomend this evil bank to anyone, not even my worst enemy...they don't deserve anyones business.

Well here is the update what happened with Wachovia after I filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau. I got an email from Wachovia executive department refunding my 105 dollars in over draft fees with a letter apologising and explaining how the fees works. Secondly I am not going to say no names but someone who works inside the bank told me that if wachovia hits you with all these fees all you have to do is find a transaction that was done 2-3 days ago and call wachovia call centre explaing you didnt make the transaction. Wachovia will credit your account with all the fees. They will cancel your card and mail you a new one. They asked the merchant for proof of purchase. If the merchant can prove it they deduct the money later if the merchant cant then it is your money. I just sat there and listened to this banker thinking how they cheat people and can teach you and me about cheating the system as well. EVERYONE SHOULD FILE A COMPLAIN WITH BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK............

This morning was it. Wachovia is DEAD to me. These crooks hit me with 140.00 in overdraft fees. $105 of these fees when I had a positive balance. Once this $105 was taken out, I didn't have enough to cover the online payment of my cell phone bill which of course went through and caused another $35 in NSF. The people I talked to at customer DISservice gave me the run around for nearly an hour before they finally offered me $32 dollars. Two months ago the same thing happened and they had charged me almost $400 in NSF. They refunded ALL of my money after telling me that somehow the point of purchase debits that come out in real time were treated as holds. At the time I just took the money and was glad to have it. Today I went back and took a really good look at what happened. I realize that they were doing double holds on my purchases AND ATM withdrawls. I immediately went to Wachovia and withdrew a couple of hundred and rushed to my nearest credit union. I only left enough to cover my online payments that will clear within the next few days. Once they clear, I will close my account. This "bank" is nothing but a bunch of crooks and one day I hope to see them pay dearly for stealing the money of hard working people. Many who are struggling to take care of themselves and/or their families only to realize probably too late that they are lining the pockets of executives whose job it is to think of ways of scamming those who trust them with their money.

I have been a customer for fifteen years, when it was still First Union here in FL. I cannot believe how they deal with transactions and blame merchants. They take the biggest purchases and leave the little ones to the day before your direct deposit comes in. I deposited a check from a repayment of a personal loan on a Tuesday. I even put in more money to make sure nothing would bounce as I knew a hold would be put on my account. It was on hold until Friday, when the balance was added to my account. I went shopping. They said Friday at midnight the check was returned. Then they took $1-$2 check card purchases made for three previous days and charged me $665 in NSF fees. I went to the branch, who said they would try to help and would call me back. Barbara from the Tyrone office never called me back. I called back twice today. One time, she said the main office was supposed to call me back. I called them, they said I am not afforded a refund and basically 'screw you'. They make no sense when they try to explain how their system works. It is set up to screw us little people. I am a teacher and staying home with my 2 year old now. I cannot afford these fees and will probably have no electric or water in a few weeks. After 15 faithful years, this is how I am treated. I will close this account and warn everyone I know not to bank with them. I also will write the Saint Petersburg Times and hopefully get an article regarding their thieving practices. UNREAL behavior from a well known bank who prides itself on customer service. The people I talked to on the phone were rude also. I wish I could also give them no stars

Thank God there's so many people out there banding together about Wachovia(Walkaloverya)problems. I get my facts together in my next post here but for now I've gotta get something post now because this is eating me up. First of all I've and problems with them for over 2 years constant now. ANOTHER VICTIM HERE SCREWED BY WACHOVIA! In five days Wachovia snowballed $175 in NSF fees over 1 charge not authorized by me. Wachovia is taking more of a stance of protecting the merchant in who charged me 150$ after I cancelled there product which they never even shipped the trial anyway!! This merchant I've later found out is a known scammer and has done this same post cancellation charge tactic to many other people and here is one of their complaint boards: http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/3247/page/4 !! I've been hung up on over 10 times from various Wachovia customer service departments plus I'm spending literally days on the phone telling a 1 hour story to each rep. 7 times before finding the right department AND THEN GET HUNG UP ON!!!! I try to get to the point quickly but it just doesn't happen plus each rep. say something totally different; The norm is they mostly don't know and don't care. Their phone options menue is vague anyway as you don't even really know sometimes which menu number to key in if a complicated issue comes up. I'm unemployed right now and don't have this money to be stolen by them but even worst if I had a job I wouldn't be able to spend the hours I'm spending endlessly debating with them and defending my myself when they're the one screwing me! I'm getting another bank without a second thought. I'll never put another penny in Wachovia's hands! I'll have to ad more fact here when I get more time. Wachovia has certainly done more damage than I've had time to explain here. This bank gets a 1 rating only because there is not option for negative digits here!!!

On July 11,2007 I deposited $2,944.90 check to the account at the Delran Wachovia branch. I did it at the drive through window. On Dec 11,2007 I realized that the $2944.90 was withdraw from the account. As soon as I could I called the bank. I talked to a Barbara Aimes (ext. 529774) who took my information and said she will refer it to June Jackson (866-892-7569. ext. 85199).She said she would investigate the case. I faxed her all the information she was asking of me. Since then I have tried to reach her, leaving her messages with her not calling me back only months later telling me she never received my fax which I know is not true since I made sure the fax got there after I had faxed the info.
I have faxed it again. I have spoke to my branch manager and obtained a phone number to MR. Spaniel Kelly(704-427-2197) which is June's manager but I was not able to reach him either, left him a message and never called me back.So I have done everything I was asked to do: contacted the person who issue the check and found out the name of their bank, they send me a proof that the check was cleared from their account. I faxed Wachovia all that information from that persons bank and still now its already August of 2008 and Wachovia is still refusing to give me my money back or give me any explanation.
Mrs. Cassandra,my Brach manager says that the check was lost after it was deposteD.At this time there is still no resolution to my case.

I totally agree with many of your ratings. Wachovia's overdraft fees are absolutely ABSURD! The have no customer service for small-town customers like me. They make thousands on people like me who cannot keep up with the hidden fees on my account. Charging your customer $70 for a $2 overdraft is not fair business. And when you are upset, you can't even talk to a branch manager, they have to call somebody in Timbuktu who doesn't give a hoot whether you bank with them or not if you have a problem with your account. And no matter how many times Wachovia screws up fees they only give you one "courtesy" refund every 12 months!!! Like they are doing you a favor for something they screwed up on!!! Then they have all these "read between the lines" policies that they state that they know 90% of their customers know nothing about to justify why they won't help you. Big banks in this country are predators and they are disgusting. Wachovia should be ashamed of themselves.

I had a 6 or 7 month CD with @ 51,000.00 in it and it was time to decide what I want to do with the CD. My husband and I decided keep the $ in a CD for another 6 or 7 months. I went to the bank to make this transaction. The financial specialist "James Shea, New Jersey" was typing all the time I was sitting there. I do not know much about options. Mr. Shea talked about the stock market. I was familiar with a tiny bit of it. He keeps typing. He has a form and he fills it out and says for me to sign here... I said let's please wait for my husband. I kept saying "WAIT" "I want to WAIT for my husband". I told him my husband is working one block away, let me call him and he will be with us. Jim Shea told me "ok, later". I signed the form, but I was sick to my stomach. Right away I told Jim Shea to stop everything. I want to wait for my husband. Jim Shea kept saying "later". Well, Jim Shea said not to worry, he had another appt. somewhere else and he would get back to me to set up another appt. with me and my husband. I FIGURED THE ENTIRE WORKS WAS ON HOLD UNTIL THIS MEETING JIM SHEA WAS TO SCHEDULE WITH THE BOTH OF US. Oh, and Jim Shea gave me his business card and the number on that card was bogus. I called every Wachovia Financial Securities I could to find him. It took a few days to do it. Well, I went online to look at my Wachovia checking etc. and while on the site I see that my money is in the stock market and losing!!!! I complained! I received no results. My husband asked for a divorce. (he changed his mind later on). Everyone said I had signed the form. I said, that Jim Shea and I agreed that LATER ... after my husband was in on the meeting, that paper was on "HOLD". Well I lost over 3,000.00 in the stock market. I got laid off from The City of Newark on Nov. 16, 2007. This Wachovia thing happened I think January 2, 2008. I do not know how to get my money back. The ladies who work at Wachovia said I was not the only one that had trouble with Jim Shea. I am still beyond upset. from Deb

One star. And that is only because I can't do NO stars. I was charged MONTHLY for overdraft fees when I NEVER over drafted my account. Several of these times, my phone was called by a number I didn't recognize. I answered, person said they were a representative from Wachovia and needed to speak to me about my account. The first of these calls was actually 10 minutes after I left the bank, having gone in to make a deposit. They asked for the last 4 digits of my social. I refused to give it to them and told them I had just left the bank and if they had anything to talk to me about, then I'm sure they would have then even IF my account was in the negative. Which it NEVER was, I am rather anal about keeping track of my money. They harrass you even when you don't owe them money. Another thing, I deposited a check right before a trip I had to take for work. I carry no cash on me. They put a hold on the check for 5 days, meaning I had absolutely no money for food or anything for that whole week, despite numerous attempts to talk to them. I understand that yes, sometimes there is a hold on checks. But previous to that, the hold was at the most, 2 days. And again, I am anal about keeping my money straight. They TRIED to charge me at least 500 dollars over the few months I had the account but every time I checked my account online and saw that 35 dollar fee, I called them and gave them a piece of my mind and I got my money back. But it's a pain in the neck. Wachovia is nothing but trying to steal your money and every time I see someone with a Wachovia check card, I tell them just that. Anything to let people know, ya know. It's rediculous. Oh yeah. My account is now closed but I owe 70 dollars for closing it??? What the hell is that? I'm going to pay it and be done with them just so it won't go to my credit and so I can totally be done with them, but it's the stupidest thing ever. DON'T USE THEM!!!

I realize you're going to see negative aspects from any bank. The fact is just stay above a zero balance. However, Wachovia's policies of organizing my transactions to assist them in charging multiple NSF fees is why I'm switching banks this month. And it's suspicious that when I have plenty of money in my account, the merchant I shop with on almost a daily basis "Publix" the transactions are applied immediately on my account. But once I start to have a low balance around $100 or so, Wachovia puts everything on hold to apply at a later time and blames it on the merchants. In this last case they deducted the holds, and even with that I'm above a zero balance. I make one transaction that overdraws my account so they charge me a NSF fee, and then say the holds are applied after the NSF fees even though they were deducted from my account and charge me NSF fees for that.

Telephone representatives are incredibly rude and do not know their own policies. They have been very insulting. arrogant, rude, and outwardly hostile and have accessed account informat that they had no permission to access. I've never spoke with anyone that was actually helpful. Don't try emailing as the rep that reads the email will not read your email past the 3rd sentence. No matter what you ask in your email and what you request, you'll never obtain a response to the full ontent of your email.

I recently cashed a $50.00 dollar check at a Wachovia in Conyers, GA. As I pulled away from the drive thru window I realized I had only gotten $30.00 back in the envelope. I drive all the way around to get back in line for the drive thru. I explained to to teller what had happened. She said that their machine counts out the money and it doesn't make mistakes. Therefore I most have dropped it and I need to search for it. She then turned off her microphone and ignored me. I proceeded inside the branch, pissed. After raising hell with the manager, I got my missing $20.00. Guess what? The next day, Wachovia withdrew $20.00 from my account. Another encounter with the manager led nowhere. He said I must have dropped it or something. Hey, how about your teller dropped it. Possibly in her pocket book. I don't have a lot of money. $20 is a lot to me.

Lawyer 3000 I'm pretty sure that you are not a lawyer. If you are a lawyer what are the case#'s and in what state and county did they take place. I'm not saying that the customer will be sent to jail for depositing a fake check in to their account. But if they spend money from the check, they are of course responsible for it. But from what you are saying people can spend money that is not theirs? Sounds like something a lawyer might say. Idoit.

You are WRONG> I am a lawyer and I have handled two cases in the case where a fake check was deposited by someone who was duped out of money on an ebay auction and someone who got caught up with an illegitimate work at home job. Neither got jail nor probation time and their records were expunged of any arrest. Stop calling people idiots you know, know nothing.

My life experience will show just how plain an simple Wachovia does not care about its customers and their policies will screw you.

In 2003 I was selling an automobile for a large chunk of money. I had a buyer who wrote me a personal check. I told the buyer that the check was subject to clear and be deposited into my account before I would release the title to him (this is typical). At his time I was banking with the Wachovia on Bee Ridge in Sarasota, FL - So I deposited the check their, where I deposited 1000s of checks and was a long time customer ever since they were First Union.

Anyway it took almost 4 weeks for the check clear before the funds were added to my account. Once I saw them in my account which I checked online. I transferred my property to the new owner.

4-5 days later I get a statement from Wachovia that they have withdrawn the amount of the check for my car and hit me with a bounce check fee on top of that. I immediately went to my branch to get to the bottom of this. The Branch manager who I knew by name and who has helped me before in short explained that the check was a fake check and that in the small print of papers you never ready when you sign up for a bank account it states that it is not the responsibility of Wachovia to determine if a check is fraudulent.

I of course begged to differ and asked why the money was put into my account if it was a fake check. The Manager then explained to me that the money is loaned to the customers and then paid back when the check clears so that ppl dont have to wait to get access to their money before its really cleared at the main headquarters.

I can not believe Wachovia stood behind its process that just because the money is in your account and you waited the proper time, it does not make the check real and the money yours to spend.

I of course called my lawyer soon after who advised me on how to get the paper work on the check from the bank and how to go about closing my account. We found out that Wachovia processed the check at 3 different branches as it made its way to headquarters where it got denied. My lawyer and I pushed the case for about 6 months but I am not rich and Wachovia just keep dragging the case out knowin i was not goignto make the long haul financaly. I had to drop the case as they just keep dragging it out over stupid little games that lawyers play until I ran out of money

In the end Wachovia scammed me out my money, a car and hit me with check and laywer fees. I since then have started 2 businesses that produced about 600k a year and I told my partners that we can bank anywhere but Wachovia. I have also helped all my past girl friends move their accounts, Got all my family to move their accounts and I will never ever ever, ever ever do business with them again. Not a credit card, loan, cd, IRA, nothing. Matter of fact I will per-sway anyone and everyone who will listen not to bank at the worst bank with the worst policies and service WACHOVIA.

This bank is the most unethical bank I have ever dealt with in my life. For all of you who say we should manage our money better.....let me say this.....this is not a matter of managing our money or being uneducated; this is absolute fraudulent practices on Wachovia's part. I too have fell prey to astronomical overdraft fees in Wachovia's scheme to maximize their profits. My latest was this week when I received $140.00 in overdraft fees for a total of overdraft of $.58. This was the last time they will do this to me as I do not have any scheduled transactions and will no longer be using this account. I even filled my gas tank up on them and come hell or high water will not return the money. I will file bankruptcy if I have to just to prove a point with this bank. Within the past year alone I have had well over $800 in overdraft fees. I get a different story from every customer service person I speak with regarding how they assess the fees. I have even had them say to me, "Well, at least we paid your charges!" This last time was the limit....they of course took the largest payment first even though the smaller bank card transactions were held two days before the larger one. This enabled them to charge me $35 per check card hold for all other transactions that were smaller than $5.00 each. They hit me with the same type of deal right before Christmas to the tune of $455.00. Before they began assessing their fees, my math error equated to only $12.53 which anywhere else would have been a $35.00 fee! So before you all begin throwing stones...just remember one thing.....this can happen to you someday. You may not be in a position right now where it effects you; but you should NEVER say never! Until my 13 year old niece who was more like my own child was killed and my own child attempted suicide, I had all my ducks in a row too! Rarely would I ever make a $12 error in my checkbook! This institution takes advantage of people in every walk of life and they should feel ashamed.

This bank is overdraft fee happy. I had $9,000 in my account and they charged me $105. How the &%#! does that happen. And in case you're wondering, the customer service is also terrible.

No kidding! And Wachovia dealer services are the a*holes of the Earth! I am one friggin payment late (like a week) and they are calling my friends cellphones and 86-year-old mother (embarrassing - and dont even know where they got these poor peoples numbers!!!), and harrassing me endlessly! Unbelievable! Whatever you do DO NOT GET A CARLOAN THROUGH THESE IDIOTS! They care nothing about you, but the minute your vehicle is worth more than you owe they have tow trucks in your driveway if you are only a few days late. Just thank gawd that you don't have a loan thru these sharks! I only give them 'one' star because there wasn't any option for ZERO stars!

Wachovia is terrible!!! I have been charged several times for overdraft fees in the past by Wachovia for ridiculout reasons. This last overdraft is a new low that they have stooped to. I was recently charged and overdraft fee of $35 twice for one withdrawal from my account. They said that there are different types of overdrafts, and that this one withdrawal fell into two of the types of overdrafts, so they had to charge me two $35 fees (ie: a total of $75 for one withdrawal). THIS IS RIDICULOUS to say the least!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These people allowed scammers post small charges to my account, not once, but twice. They refuse to stop them! What they do is reverse the charge and charge the scammers a returned item fee. The returned item fee is collected from the scammers account which has money they have scammed from other Wachovia customers. Then Wachovia helps the scammers transfer the money out of the country in violation of the Patriot Act. Why can we not stop these people. Wachovia is making millions by scamming its own customers and gleefully admitting that is what they are doing. One star is far too high --- these people should be rated in terms of prison bars.

They get two stars because they are everywhere and have given me a little better service than other big guns, but they are greed hungry bastards just like Bank of America! They have all types of fees, hidden charges and they've held my deposits for almost two weeks before I told them something and "Yes" I had a few hundred in available funds! They need to fix there computer technology, common people it's the 21 century and they cant update their data faster? Bull shnit! Wachovia you suck! or better said Watch-over-ya! The majority rules and you get more suck votes than good, even by colleges of mine who constantly have more than enough funds in their account.

I am a real estate agent who has a client using Wachovia to buy a house. I have never, in all my years of doing real estate, seen such ineptitude in a mortgage company! From DAY 1 we had trouble getting the loan officer to return calls made to her. I tried (without success) to get my buyer to switch lenders. Now, as she has had to pay for a hotel for 3 nights and was penalized by U-Haul for not turning in the truck on Saturday, I sit here after a 3-day weekend STILL waiting for the call saying we can finally close the deal. We were supposed to close Friday but as of Thursday the processor had not even begun to get the package together for the title company to close. I have spoken to no less than THREE "supervisors" to get this done. I have also, along with the woman at the title company, kept detailed logs of all the phone calls we made that were not returned, emails that were not responded to and faxes that were "never received." I am sooo over Wachovia and I promise you that if I have another client who wants to use them, I will insist they change or I won't be their agent. The money I make on this deal is not worth the hassle and stress I have been under because of their lack of work ethic--from the bottom to the top! Angie - Virginia

Most tyranical mortgage company I ever dealt with. They do not post your payments and then they begin dinging your credit due to their own mistakes. They also keep your phone ringing day and night in their computer efforts to force some money they are not due to come out of your already emptied-by-them pockets.
I have tried since October, when they ate up World Savings, to get and keep my mortgage straight, but to no avail. My October payment never was credited to my account and it has all been like falling off Mt. Everest, there seems to be no stopping place or any trees to grab hold of on the way down. I guess when a p;erson hits the bottom after falling that far, they will be totally dead.
I called today to make sure I had the story straight and was told by a woman named Lisa in customer service that they had never posted my payment.
That was when I realized that my more recent efforts of actually walking into a branch were the best choice. That way they could not claim they had not received payment as I had their actual receipt.
That, however did not stop them from being ugly. I do not think my credit deserved being drug into the outhouse pit by them. Each month I pay, they still keep dinging my credit.
They also changed the margin I had gotten in my adjustable rate when I financed through World Savings. It was reduced because they have a different margin rate. I think this is a totally illegal practice because it does not maintain the original contract I agreed to when I signed the loan.
As soon as I get a copy of the USPS money order that I sent them, I will be finding a good attorney to get back the fees they charged me that were illegal because they hadn't credited my payment in October. I also need them to correct the ugliness they waged against me with the credit reporting agencies.
They need to take their banking practices somewhere else, like Pluto so they can never damage another Earthling again with their illegal practices.

Just opened an account two days ago and I'm already closing it and
moving to WAMU. Wachovia customer service SUCKS. I have never in my
life seen such a poor excuse for customer service. More like
customer abuse. Surely WAMU is better. Heck my old bank was great.
My intent was to move to a bank that was closer to home and that
had numerous branches. Boy was that as mistake! Live and learn, I
guess. You need to add a "zero" to the rating stars. One star is giving
them way too much credit.

Recently I accrued a total of $155 in overdraft fees. The first overdraft fee was posted before a negative balance was shown. If you add the overdraft fee to the available funds, the next charge would have cleared with money to spare. After contacting Wachovia I was told that this happened because other purchases that were on hold had amounted to a larger sum than the available funds. Three subsequent overdrafts ensued the following day. Realistically, two more should have occurred based on the sequence of purchases.
A class action seems like one option but based on my research of this situation writing in to your local, state and federal level Representatives may also wield some action. Given the fact this is an election year, and big business is the target for the Democratic Partys platform it is worth a try. You should also post your story wherever it will be read. www.consumeraffairs.com allows you to file complaints viewable by lawyers that will review and decide whether they want to engage in a class action suit. You may not get your moneys worth, but It is possible that the negative press will affect their public trading value and cost them SO MUCH MORE than they have cost you. Lastly, change you bank! Because without action on your part, nothing will ever change.

I think people need to grow up. Keep a register and stop relying on a computer or someonelse to tell you what you have in the bank. There sre plenty of people who make errors but there are those who think someone other than themselves should know what is coming in and out of there accounts. Go Wachovia if people want to be stupid and not care then they need to pay. STOP BEING LAZY AND KEEP TRACK OF YOUR OWN STUFF

They have designed their banking methods to charge customers out of as many "fees" as possible. Hate is a strong word but this company is deserving of it and has the nerve to claim they are #1 customer satisfaction - please close your account if you have one and DONT open one with them if you are thinking about it - you will be very sorry - trust me! Please encourage everyone you know and can reach to not deal with this bank - we as a community need to come together to show these mega banks that the consumer and their happiness should still come first or their businesses wont last.

Actually, the thing about CC holds isn't true. I've been with the bank for well more than 6 months and have NEVER overdrafted my account. Yet, the holds are there all of the time. Sketchy if you ask me.

Wow, I am not alone. If I could give them a negative rating like my account then I would. First, they have the worst customer service ever. There check card holds are there for fun not to hold for the merchant. So, If you make a mistake and make a purchase thinking that the funds are available they will charge you a overdraft fee for that transaction since you already had funds on hold then they will charge you a unavailable funds fee for the transaction that was hold notice they name them something different so that it will not show as being charged twice for the same transaction. They will do all of this while holding onto your direct deposit until midnight with a big smile.

I guess I should not be shocked to see the amount of complaints that have been filed against Wachovia bank and their poor service. I have yet another complaint to add to the many I see here and that I have seen elsewhere. I recently paid off, or at least tried to pay off a school loan to wachovia. I just graduated from an undergrad university, but that does not mean that I am one to be taken advantage of by a "big shot" bank. I wrote a check and sent it in before the first due date, only to get back a notice saying that I was now in a prepaid status. I had already accrued interest, they said and the amount that I sent was too much, so they applied my check to the first payment only. If I wrote on the physical check that this amount was the payment in full, then by cashing it, they have agreed to take that amount as the full payment regardless of how much interest had accrued. The woman who I spoke with had this to say, "We did not anticipate that you would be paying the loan in full" How then, is that my problem? I could have just won the lottery for all they know. In any case I know that their main objective is to make money off of seemingly vulnerable students. Furthermore, I am glad that they have lost the $5000+ of just interest that they would have gotten from me over the next ten years. In actuality they do not deserve any stars.

I must have masochistic tendencies since I've done my banking there as well as having a home equity loan and a brokerage account. I suppose I've kept these accounts under one roof because of the considerable red tape and effort to switch everything to another bank and broker. However, I finally have done that and I feel akin to someone liberated from an abusive parter---Wachovia is that bad...especially the Wachovia Securities portion of their faulting organization.
--
For starters, their Web site (banking and brokerage rolled into the same site) is like going back in time to 1995 both in its layout, but more importantly, in its functionality. Navigating inside the site is tenuous at best, and quite often, many features don't work at all. And while I understand that it is necessary to have heavy encryptions on a banking/brokerage site, I have accounts with Ameritrade, Charles Schwab and Bank of New York and they don't seem to have any issues in presenting a functioning, secure site. And for those of us that trade stocks online, functionality is a necessity. I don't know how many times I've tried to trade a stock and the site will simply freeze and time out. When I've brought this to the attention of Wachovia on several occasions---both their banking and brokerage divisions---they condescendingly told me that my Internet connection must be at fault, which was definitely not the case. Furthermore, on about twenty different occasions just this year alone, the horrific Wachovia site wouldn't let me access the site at all because of a text/ASCII mismatch (Wachovia.com, the worst Web site ever, has a regular text/ASCII problem). And after four attempts with the decidedly correct user name and password, the thing locks one out completely.
Then one has to call one of their call centers and be told
