 | littleone (0) 04/20/2006 | Their fees and how they come by them are nuts. I do not understand why they will immediately clear any withdrawals but will hold any deposits that aren't automatic. All banking customers should be outraged. The sad thing is that I am unsure things are really different at any other bank.

 | obsidianglass (0) 03/04/2006 | I run a small business and had my "free banking" account for 1 year. At the toll of midnight at the end of my year (which is now the silent equivilent of an electronic lawyer/robber sneaking into my bank account) I was transformed into a business powerhouse with a min balance of $10,000.00. I "was lucky though" the fee for being below that was only $10 per month (taken out at thier discretion. Then we recieved $216 of overdraft fees because they "thought it would be to our benefit to run through the most expensive check...we figure it must have been a mortgage or a vehicle payment and we were just looking out for your best interest" says assistant branch manager at a branch on the west coast of Florida close to recent hurricane damage. We heard that same line about shifting our funds (not knowing who they were to, just based on how that may overdraw our account) from every branch manager that had shown up for work that Friday. In the last year I still after numerous occasions have not met my Branch manager). In this instance we had 6 debit drafts. You know the kind - $5 gas and a Arizona Green Tea that due to thier "favor" now cost $42. Can I get that back? Can I say that big check was just to take advantage of a 2% early pay on materials? NO I CANNOT...Judge, Jury and exicutioner on where my $ goes. Then they took thier (my)$ and charged me a nsf fee on it!!!! But I say "I check my account every morning on the online account you gave me for free". (Internal monolouge "OH ... crap"). Then says the assistant manager "oh disregard that (condesending glance tempered with an immoral lack of ethics) that is not the reality only use the available balance". She then procedes to print out how they really do it. The read out is riddled with code letters like BS and TB (tough boogers) this in conjunction with her littany of "the amount here (BS) is waiting for (tb) this fee to clear then once that is back in the positive we (bs) TB Bs Tb tB bS. So you see you should just keep better track of your records yourself" In other words do not look at your reflection in a watering hole there are too many animals dipping in to get a clear image of who you are. OK So why didn't I leave yet? I like a good fight and GET READY ............THIS IS THE MODEL TO BE ACCEPTED BY ALL BANKS SOON. Do the research!!! You'll see.

 | mistyfalkner (0) 10/17/2005 | Our complaint is the same as many others. Their policy of holding your deposits(even those made directly from other amsouth accounts, which they say are immediate) and allowing debits to go through no problem. My husband tried to make a transfer online...it once again failed to go through. Their online banking is worthless if you have to go in to the bank to make sure it goes through and the overdraft fees are a crime...in my husband's business account, we had suffered some overdrafts while they were holding checks, they made sure they charged us their fees before they cleared the checks, yes, that's right, racking up another overdraft fee and on went that process for several transactions. By the way, neither of our accounts was ever really negative, just unavailable! They were no help at the bank when i went in, i know personally they could care less, but we have huge medical bills from my daughter's illness...you would think they would have a collective heart...i asked if we could pay the fees back over time so that we could pay our rent and other necessary bills and the answer was..."We've already taken the money out of your account." I wonder is it legal for them to take money out of my account like that without my authorization?

 | Kairho (11) 10/03/2005 | I've been with them for 6 years and the only problem is their fees are a little bit high. But I'm willing to pay that because when I had a BIG problem with the bookkeeper, they supported me, didn't let any checks bounce, and generally served as a "partner" all businessmen like to have.

 | canc22 (0) 02/23/2005 | AmSouth puts a one day hold on all non-Amsouth checks that you depsoit into your account. It dosen't matter how long you have had the account nor how much $$ is in your account. If there is a policy, such as the previous one, that you are unaware of and this policy causes you to have an NSF charge, too bad. I am told that AmSouth's fees are non refundable!

 | fhantazm (0) 02/16/2005 | Amsouth is undeniably the worst financial institution I have ever used. Their policies are ridiculous, the tellers are rude and they are totally unwilling to work with the very customers that have made them their money. Do NOT even ponder banking with AmSouth. In the end, you WILL regret this decision.

 | satyr2238 (0) 01/21/2005 | after opening a small business acount with amsouth I learned some valuable information related to there banking policies. This is what happened. I deposited money in the morning, that same day we purchased items for our business at three different stores. When checking my balance two days later I noticed two overdraft fees had occured charging me $60.00. I could not understand how this could happen since I had deposited a large amount that morning. After talking to a amsouth bank clerk I was informed of their banking policies. After two pm all debits to your account are withdrawn first, then at 12 midnight all your deposits go in. Confused with his answer I gave him a senario. If I have a 1,000.00 balance, I deposit 5,000.00 at 9 am. The same day after the deposit I purchase 800.00, 500.00, 100.00 items at three different places. I will be charged 60.00 for 2 overdraft items because debits go in after 2pm and the 5,000.00 deposited before the purchases go in at 12 midnight,(which is really the following day)? He replied, yes that is correct. I informed him that this was poor banking policies and closed my account immediately and opened another where they could not believe how amsouth legaly could have such a policy.

 | g8rjeff (0) 08/19/2004 | Recently opened an AmSouth account at a nearby branch. All went well, until... we ran into their unusual banking policy. My wife went grocery shopping and she wasn't sure if there was enough money for getting cash back, but she rationalized that if there wasn't enough money the debit request would have been declined (like our Bank of America account does). Transaction went through like butter. When she got home she gave me the reciept to enter into Quicken, that's when I realized she would overdraw the account by $8.23 when the transaction cleared. The next morning I deposited $200 only to find out that I had already incurred $60 in fees. My account balance was positive and the previous night's grocery transaction had not yet been processed by the bank. The bank's explanation was that my available balance (which includes pending transactions) was negative. I asked to see in the AmSouth Customer Agreement where they could charge OD fees on the a negative available balance rather than the actual balance. They couldn't find it, but said that there was no mistake. I asked why the debit authorization was approved and they said that they a customer friendly policy (Ha!) that would allow overdrafts up to $500 - but of course there was a OD fee for each item. In closing, at no time as my actual balance ever been negative, yet I received $60 in overdraft fees! This has got to be illegal.... Is there a class action lawsuit out there I can join?

 | southernpatriot (0) 08/31/2003 | These people that call themselves bankers are the lowest wheeler dealers of them all! They give you some good options, then they take them away. I am a senior citizen and I can't afford the "deals" that these shysters are dangling on the end of a string that is jerked back...again and again.

 | jus4fun (0) 02/07/2003 | They've been great for us so far. We have met with a guy there several times and he's been very responsive. He has helped reconfigure our accounts to save us fees, set up our online banking, and even waived transfer fees for one month when we went over our account limit. No complaints.

 | Elliemayj7 (0) 07/16/2002 | First of all I was suppose to be getting free checking while I was a student. Somewhere a long the way they started charging me for this and I don't know how long it was before i realized because they were charging me for the checkcard. When I did discover it they only reimbursed me for the previous two months. I know they have records that go way back before that. They also almost lost some of my money once by not comepletely looking in the envelope. If someone deposits $500 on the slip and you only pull out 200 from the envelope don't you think you will search the envelope to make sure that there wasn't another check in there? Good thing I noticed this early and they "found" the check STILL in the envelope days later. That whole scenario sounded fishy to me. I just have not been happy with them. I went to them because I was not happy will my last bank and their fees. Now I am looking for a good online bank. I heard of one that might be good.
