Erik 'El Terrible' Morales has proven himself as one of the best of his era. With an impressive win over Manny Pacquiao and a win in the very first fight between he and his nemesis, Marco Antonio Barrera, Morales is a battle-tested fighter. But against Wilfredo 'Bazooka' Gomez, he probably would have wilted under the Puerto Rican's unrelenting assault and brutal power. Gomez was a knockout artist who decimated opponents with fierce body and head shots (utilizing a stiff jab and power in both hands). Yet, he also had a good defense (of which only the great Salvador Sanchez was able to penetrate). If Morales was susceptible to Pacquiao's and Barrera's multi-layered offensive onslaughts, Gomez instead would have knocked out 'El Terrible' convincingly.

Wilfredo Gomez was the first great fighter I can remember at 122;I can't remember the division before him.Erik Morales was the last great fighter in this division(along with Manny Pacquaio and Marco Antonio Barrera). Both guys were undefeated in this division,SO 'somebody's 0 would have to go in a fight with two very watchable fighters with big followings.
