Small problem- but noticeable and interesting as a social class phenomena. There was a time (not too long ago) that ballplayers and fans were in very close proximity with one another. (Fans were part of the game 100 years ago. . .I heard of a story where standing-room-only fans would move the outfield-foul-rope depending on who was batting!) A player might have made 5 to 10 times what an average working man made.Clearly, the numbers are very skewed and the barrier between player and fan is larger than ever. Thus, booing, razzing, applauding, and cheering take upon a slightly different context. . .

The only tension I could think of would be jelousy over the amount of money these guys make and that is not a big problem.

There is a steady increase of fans who throw things at players, and that is uncalled for. Someone threw a needle at Barry Bonds, and some moron threw beer and popcorn on basketball players at the brawl in Detroit.

Some fans pay to come to the ballpark, buy beer, get drunk and taunt our hard-working players. It's a marvel why the fan/player relationship ceases to exist.
