I see a narrow GOP win here

Can't see this one going for Obama, not even with Clinton on the ticket and a high black turnout. But I've been wrong before, and Rob Barr may steal some McCain votes in the south.

Polling suggests this state is leaning strongly Democratic in 2008. Arkansas is the most Democratic state in South: the Governorship, both US Senators and much of the State Government is controlled by the Democrats. They have only one Republican Congressman there, out of four. Bush carried the state in 2000 and 2004 by decent, although not stellar margins. I think Arkansas will be reasonably close in 2008, with a Democratic edge if Hillary is the nominee. Bill Clinton is still popular in the state

Arkansas is a very interesting state in this election. They are a Democratic state in name, but these are the old, conservative Southern Democrats. They supported Bush in both of his elections, but they went to Bill Clinton in both of his. So it is a state that can be swayed by a particular candidate. Two of the major figures in this race also have very close ties to Arkansas. Of course Hillary Clinton was former governor Bill Clinton's wife, and Mike Huckabee was the governor for a decade. They both are very popular in Arkansas, picking up 70% and 61% of the votes respectively in the recent primary. Neither of these two is guaranteed to be on the ticket come November, but both are possibilities. Arkansas is likely to be very close in this election, and a lot more attention would be paid to this state if there were more than just six electoral votes up in the air.
