 | Loerke (52) 08/13/2008 | While New Hampshire has good history with McCain, I don't think the state will be close in 2008. Living pretty close to NH, I see the emergence of a "New England" political consciousness around here, with anti-war feeling creating a lot of unity that hadn't existed before. And maybe the unity comes from something as trivial as all the recent successes in professional sports. Even the Mainers are obsessed with the Patriots. A consolidated New England is not like a consolidated South--it won't win anyone the presidency--but I don't see McCain spending much time campaigning here.

 | abichara (64) 08/13/2008 | Bush won this state in 2000, but this was the only state to go republican to democrat in 2004. bush won the state in 2000 only because ralph nader took enough liberal votes from al gore to give the state to bush. this state is trending strong democratic this year, but this state also has a strong libertarian streak. john mccain usually runs well here, in fact, he won the NH primary here twice. they are socially liberal here, but fiscally conservative. the voters here pride themselves on being mavericks. that's really why they have strong affection for mccain, which might allow him to win the state, despite trends which suggest democratic dominance here.

 | Drummond (60) 08/12/2008 | It went to Kerry last time around, but it went to Bush in 2000. It's where Hillary Clinton rallied to get back into the primaries. It leans Obama, but anything can happen here.
