Don't judge it by the buildings - pollution and sea air haven't been kind to the concrete, but what's inside them makes this a great place to live/visit/whatever. And what are you talking about expensive, I pay NOTHING for my food, transportation, centrally-located apartment etc compared to other places I've lived in the US and UK.
And the Diaspora Museum's pretty cool, nice thorough survey of various communities without going on forever.

TEL AVIV ROCKS! It definitely still has a European vibe, despite technically it is in the Middle East. Israeli girls are very beautiful, and the Palestinian ones are quite stunning, too. It's a fun place if you know where to go.

I had to go there because I flew into it and then when I had to get my visa, otherwise I would have avoided it and tried to use my time better visiting other places in Israel and Palestine. The beach was disgusting, the buildings were ugly (like a military camp), it was very expensive, and in the summer it is one of the most humid places I've been to (I had to carry a towel to wipe my sweat off, because it was so humid). The women are pretty, but very arrogant and superficial. Go there only if you have to, otherwise spend your time going to other many beautiful places (especially in the West Bank) and to other nearby countries.
