Child prodigy, became a founder of Utilitarianism, and also a great inspiration to the development of both Welfarism and Socialism. Was in favour of economic and individual freedom, including backing many [relatively] modern ideas such as women's rights, the decriminilization, the end of slavery and the end of corporal punishment. Came up with some ideas which only effectively surfaced in the two centuries after his death, and was a major inspiration to the development of socialism.
He developed Utilitarianism, which is a nice idea, even if it doesn't work. He was also a fairly lively fellow, if we are to judge by his clothing and the fact that he ordered the preservation of his body, which is still today on display in University College London.
