While clearly and undeniably tragic, particularly for those directly affected, these horrible stories are becoming all too common to be seen as tremendously significant.

This is truly a tragic story, but it is quickly being forgotten by many because it was not of the magnitude of what happened at Virginia Tech. Therefore, the shock value is not as high and the media's focus has not lasted as long at Northern Illinois as it did at Virginia Tech.

This is totally incomprehensible. After the lesson we learned in Virginia Tech, it has occurred again. I would have thought security in schools will be upped from April 16 2007, but I guess I was wrong. From this, I have learned that there is no safe heaven for anyone, and if terrorists see this happening, they will take advantage. We just have to be MUCH more aware of our surroundings so these senseless crimes from suicidal killers (whether or not they are extremists, or mentally ill) will not kill innocent people in prestigious areas again.
