In spite of having a revolving door that was running on over-drive, the Drifters produced some of the classics of not only the Doo Wop genre but the modern American songbook. And throught their ranks passed great vocalists Clyde McPhatter and Ben E. King and provided a rich training ground for great songwriters and producers like Lieber and Stoller and Burt Bacharach. An American institution.
