 | CastleBee (92) 09/28/2001 | It’s kind of sad to think that the only exposure some people may have to the work of this legendary artists are those two sleepy, bored looking little angels who caught on like wildfire a few years ago and emblazoned everything from beach towels to gold ingot necklaces. Even with their widespread faddish appeal (I have a print of them myself, so that remark isn’t as snobby as it may sound), few people will realize the work was by Raphael. And they may further never recognize that this was only a very tiny portion of a much larger magnificent painting entitled “The Sistine Madonna”. If you want to have look at the whole thing and read more about the history of it go to http://www.kfki.hu/~arthp/html/r/raphael/madonna2/sixtus.html. Even a quick perusal of his works will convince you that this talented Italian was one of the most wonderful examples of High Renaissance master painters to ever live.
