1300 years of great drama in some form or other from Beowulf to Shakespeare and Marlowe to Shaw to Monty Python down the drain...

Clearly PBS gets to run this show without paying any royalties or fees of any kind. It has the incredible distinction of being the only British produced comedy programme that is not in any way, shape or form funny.

Horrendously unfunny British sitcom set in a department store.

Basic music hall jokes that were last thought to be amusing sometime around the Battle of Waterloo, and plot lines that were about as convoluted as a Dick and Jane book.

Average British sitcom. Good cast, production values minimal, writing pretty good. The show lost some of the better characters over the years which led to an overall decline in the humor. Four stars in the early days. Barely three in the last year.
