Bridges was nominated for the supporting actor oscar in this flick and he certainly deserved that nomination. I have the film in my personal library and I watched it the other night, as I have not viewed it in years. I am surprised that Bridges did not win the Oscar for this performance.
Clint Eastwood plays the lead, and he is a professional robber or heistman in hiding when he and drifter Bridges get together. Slowly and by a twisted road, most of Eastwood's old criminal gang are put back together and they decide to redo their most successful robbery. This time Bridges is part of the gang. Geoff Lewis and George Kennedy fill out the protagonists. There is a sparkling cast of others playing small or bit parts including Dub Taylor, Catherine Bach, Gary Busey, Vic Tayback and Jack Dodson (Howard Sprague on Andy Griffith.)
This was Michael Cimino's first movie as director.
