 | edt4 (99) 03/11/2008 | I read the Newton Thornburg novel as a teenager and loved it. Part of the reason I never saw the movie when it came out was because I had read somewhere that they altered the storyline somewhat and I felt strongly enough about the book that I didn't want to see that. Recently, I decided to take a chance and watched the DVD. In some ways, it's a very good film, and Bridges is excellent as the going-to-seed gigilo (John Heard and Lisa Eichhorn are very good too; I'm surprised Heard hasn't had a more prolific career, and whatever happened to Eichhorn?). They have changed the ending, and I wasn't very convinced or pleased, but it's definitely a movie worth checking out, and it did inspire me to go back and re-read the novel, which I highly recommend.
