Much like many of Eddie Van Halen's riffs, this one is extremely powerful!

On a side note, no Pink Floyd on this list? I would argue for the guitar solo in 'Mother' to at least be in the top 100.

While the rest of the song (and the singer . . . "oh, how the mighty have fallen" . . . ) hasn't aged quite as well, the guitar riff still kicks ass even after a couple of decades.

An extremely good riff. Eddie Van Halen even rivals Ain't Talkin' Bout Love with this effort. I would even go as far as to say 'Beat It' is Michael Jackson's best song (except perhaps that nefarious guilty pleasure known as 'Earth Song'). None of Michael Jackson's guitarist collaborations even came close to matching this.
