They should have removed Client no 9. for Troopergate and that ridiculous suggestion that illegal immigrants should get driver licenses. This prostitution scandal was just icing on the cake! Its a sad time for New Yorkers (we actually trusted this moron to clean up Albany) and his three daughters...

Ah yes, Governor Steamroller, bringing prostitution to its knees . . . . one hooker at a time. Don't blame me, I voted for client number 8! Huge story, in New York and parts of the northeast. In the rest of the country (particularly in flyover country) pure entertainment. This liberal juggernaut vaulted himself into the seat of power by ruining peoples lives and careers, bullying nearly all of them into submission whether the charges he had brought were legitimate or not. We've now replaced him with another horny governor and we get the government we deserve, as always. The rest of the country is about to witness a period of dominant power by liberal democrats, unchecked by any oppostion. Do you think taxes in New York are going up, perhaps? But, his wife did a great Tammy Wynette impersonation, as they all seem to.

Gets high marks on the "cynical irony" scale. Gotta say though, that he had better taste in women than Clinton.

I wonder if theres any truth to the rumor that the NY Yankees are getting Spitzer to do some ads flogging their high end season tickets in the new stadium. The ones going for $2500 a seat.

I can see his tag line now. "$2500? Thats a hell of a deal for three hours of excitement"

I must be the only one on the planet who is not fascinated by this story. So what? Shouldn't this be between him and his wife?

Fro has a point, the ho makes all the difference. If we have a Devine Brown type its really news...

UPDATE: Alright, I was watching the news report and I have two questions:

1. Was any of the $4300 price tag paid by the taxpayers?

2. What was the "unsafe act" he wanted her to perform?

UPDATE: So all he wanted to do was not use a condom. How boring. I was hoping it was some more twisted, like a donkey punch or choking or something. Yeah, I need to get out more...

Very significant! As stated in a previous category ~ another Democrat crying to the public AFTER he got caught! WAHHHH!!! Suck it up and take responsibility! No big surprise here! Morals and values being flushed down the drain!

How stupid can a guy be? You don't have to answer right away, apparently there will be another opportunity to probe that question in a week or two as there always seems to be some sort of flagrant ego driven act of idiocy committed in high office. Maybe this was just Elliot Spitzer showing he can act like the big boys, testing his ability to triumph over self inflicted adversity like Clinton with interns and Bush with his "high" life.

It's ironic that many times it is the moral crusaders that get caught with their pants down (literally in many cases!). In the case of Eliot Spitzer, the hypocrisy is quite blatant. As Attorney General of NY, he prosecuted, in addition to several Wall Street firms, two organized prostitution rings. In 2004, Spitzer spoke angrily after announcing the arrest of 16 people for operating a sophisticated prostitution ring based in New York City. It was a large, highly lucrative operation. Of course, the big question here isn't about sex per se. Did Spitzer use taxpayer dollars to finance these encounters with prostitutes? We'll find out; this can go much further.

We tend to see this kind of political posturing regarding morality in public life. Two recent cases come to mind: Larry Craig spoke out consistently about the immorality of homosexuality, yet he ends up getting caught in an undercover operation investigating complaints about illicit sexual activity in airport restrooms. Mark Foley was an advocate against child molestation in the US House, yet it turns out that he was at the center of a scandal involving Congressional pages, many of whom were teens.

All these politicians, Spitzer included, spoke in moral revulsion of acts that they themselves were guilty of committing. Such scandals are highly erosive, as it causes them to lose credibility in the face of the public. That's why I think Spitzer should do the honorable thing and resign his post as Governor of New York. It is quite a fall for someone who was widely regarded as a rising star among Democratic politicians.

My question is: what's going through his wife's mind that she's willing to stand there alongside him and allow herself to be humiliated publicly? Same thing happened with NJ's McGreevey. His wife stood stoicly by as he portrayed himself as a gay revolutionary (a gay revolutionary having furtive sex in public bathrooms...how "revolutionary" is that?) as opposed to a crook, which is what he was (sorry, but when you hire your gay lover to fill an important governmental position that he has absolutely no qualifications for other than being your gay lover on the taxpayer's dime, that makes you a crook, in my book). There have been ethical concerns raised about Spitzer that, to me, are far more important than whether he was with a call-girl or not (ultimately, that's between Spitzer and his wife, just as Clinton's b'job was between himself, his wife, and Lewinsky...unless, of course, Spitzer was using taxpayer money to finance his trysts), but obviously the prostitution angle is what's going to grab the media. Maybe Spitzer's wife will do what McGreevey's ultimately did; divorce the slimebag and write a book about him. I hope Mrs. Spitzer does the same thing (not that I intend to read it) and I hope she soaks him for as much as she can.

Hoo-ah! What's it been? About nine weeks since our last episode of misbehaving leaders? At least this one's a demo- I heard a rumor there was a woman involved. Still (1) there must be something about paying for it and (2) you can't be a law and order moral-advocate shame-on-you-type while playing spray-the-hate-paste on prostitute's faces and (3) anyone consider that America should finally grow up a little and get a little less interested in our cheating-spouse-sexually-curious politicians? (European sexual attitudes are on average far more mature than ours.) Still, there's someting quite satisfying about the morally-superior types who get caught in the bear-trap. . .

Haha. Well, hey, Spitzer was never known as a crusader on the topic of sexual morality....It's not like he made his reputation taking down prostitution rings. Spitzer actually made a good point at his press conference about distinguishing between "individuals" and "ideas," which we can translate as saying: "Do what I say, not what I do." And there's some merit in that point. Jack Cafferty just compared Spitzer with Craig, saying that the latter was "a mutant." But it sounds like Spitzer could be more graceful than Craig, recapturing a little nobility by promptly resigning.

It's always just a tad enjoyable when the hard core moralists among us get linked to something untoward. The socially conservative politicians who solicit gay sex. The holier than thou pastors who solicit gay sex. The lawyer who sues CEO's of bad performing stocks who get busted for kick back schemes. And in Eliot Spitzer, the crime busting "sheriff of Wall Street" who apparently is on a client list for a high end prostitution ring.

If you are going to hammer people from straying from the straight and narrow, you better not stray yourself.
