I worked in a prison once. I am proud to say I did it once but I will NEVER do it again. There is nothing but negativity, the prisoners always try to get over on every little thing, they complain about everything. It's all a game of wait and see and time passing. Nothing rewarding at all. And yes a lot of the guards got hurt, some pretty badly. Poor poor job.

At least where I live this is a well paid union job, with excellent benefits.

And given some of the recent criminal charges laid hereabouts, it appears that theres ample opportunity to supplement your income with some drug and weapon smuggling into the joint.

A lot of the time, these guys (and gals) make more than the POs on the street.

I would not last a week. could not take the verbal abuse. or doubt if I could come off "tough enough" to make it there. I think someone has to need a take no crap attitude I could not do. they would sense the fear I would likely have and go with it. and for crummy wages I would be emotionally drained.

The states are starting to build prisons in remote site away from urban gangs and in a source for poor people who will take these terrible jobs. In the larger towns, nobody will work here!
