Update: Wow...the Tigers have been amazingly disappointing so far. After two weeks they have the worst record in baseball. Not only are they losing, but they have given up almost twice as many runs have they scored. They aren't losing in a respectable manner, but getting blown out. I still have faith that they can come around and have a good season, but their chance have already been hurt greatly.

3/27/2008 - The Tigers are my pre-season AL selection for the World Series in 2008. They made the biggest move of the offseason by picking up Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis from the Marlins. The Tigers should have a good rotation if Kenny Rogers rebounds well this season. Dontrelle Willis might have struggled last season, but he has had 10 wins in each of his 5 seasons. Having a former 20 game winner who is still in his 20's is not a bad option for your 5th starting spot. The lineup should be even better though. Detroit has 4 guys returning who hit over 20 homeruns last season, and thats before you add Cabrera's 34. You can't pitch around Detroit's power, especially with OBPs in the first six spots of .361(Granderson), .388(Polanco), .357(Guillen), .434(Ordonez), .401(Cabrera), and .378(Sheffield). The Tigers were a good team who came close to the playoffs last year. Since then they have added a quality starter, returned another one in Kenny Rogers, and have vastly improved their two biggest weaknesses at 3B and LF without giving up strength at any current positions. This will be a big year for the Tigers.

After throwing the first seven games of 2008,they're on schedule to finish 155 and 7..on the other hand I figure the Cubs are real overdue.

As other have said here, I like the Tiger's hitting and starting rotation, but it will come down to the bullpen. If they get anything out of their relievers, they may be wearing championshjip rings come the fall.

If Detroit can get past the Indians and the Red Sox and the Yanks... the AL's a bitch of a league. Look for the Tigers to deal for some additional bullpen help, I'll feel better about their chances whan they do.

One of the handful of elite teams in the AL and have both the bats and the starting rotation to do very well. Relief pitching is the only obvious weakness, and its no worse than questionable.

Cleveland will push them hard, and the wildcard race is likely between Cleveland, Detroit Boston and New York, with two of them winning their respective divisions, and the runners up duking it out. As a result, one of these teams is likely to miss the playoffs with damn good record.

The Tigers have to be the favorite for that division, with a batting order that may be the best in the game with the addition of Miguel Cabrera. Even the bench is pretty solid. The relief pitching is questionable, and Cleveland will be a tough opponent, but Detroit has a very solid core, a good skipper, a good if not great rotation and should be in the top tier of teams this year.
