Puncher's chance, but pitching will doom them. Even with an average 3rd baseman, this is the Phils greatest infield ever (3 All-Stars) and the outfield is okay but certainly not spectacular. Scary lineup and they hit at a park where home runs come faster than (insert clever metaphor here). . .but after their first two starters, the pitching is supermodel-thin and they have more than one shaky bullpen reliever. They'll be entertaining and make a playoff push- that's it. . .

I like these guys offensively a lot, but the question is whether their lumber can overcome their pitching problems. The rotation isn't exactly the '71 Orioles or the '97 Braves, and when your setup man is the antiquated Tom Gordon and the breakdown waiting to happen Brad Lidge is your closer, its time to worry.

Philadelphia has a great infield: Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, and Jimmy Rollins are among the very best players at their positions, and though there's a big dropoff between that trio and new third baseman Pedro Feliz, he's been a fairly decent player with the Giants. The rotation and the bullpen have some question marks after #1 starter Cole Hamels. Tom Gordon is old, some of their other pitchers are pedestrian, and Jamie Moyer is going to wake up one of these days and say "Oh my God, all the guys I started out with on the 1903 Cubs are dead!" The outfield is solid enough if not spectacular. However, this team should have an exciting battle with The Mets for the NL East, and could be the NL representative in the Series.
