More of an amalgamation and mixture of different English legends from what I understand (please give commentary!) but there is a soft spot in my steel cage heart for the Robin Hood legend- but he has to rank low being mostly fiction. . .

Actually the origin of the character is not really known. The stories we know are based on a series of legends and poems that were passed on in various versions for generations before they were ever written. That's why there is no definative book or volume of his story, but several collections and retellings of collections of similar adventures. There's debate as to whether the tales are based on a real outlaw or just fables. That said, a lot of noble acts of rebellion have been carried out in his name, robbing from the rich and giving to the poor, less an allowance for personal expenses of course.
