We are lead to believe the probable killer(peter) was dead because Jess(olivia hussy)killed him in the basement.however at the end it was determined that the killer must have made the prank phone calls after each murder.so at the closing scene we see jess asleep on the bed with the police officer outside smoking,waiting for her parents to come and get her,the bodies in the attick where (billy)the real killer was hiding, were not discovered due to police waiting for the state police to come. Then the camera pans out slowly as you see clair wrapped in plastic and sitting the rocking chair.. we hear billy say "it's me billy" which he says prior to each murder and we hear his footsteps leaving the attick,followed by the phone ringing which emplies he just killed Jess off camera,if the police where not outside smoking he would have seen billy but they thought the killer was already dead.then the movie ends.
