I read Ryan's book when it first came out, and I had the privilege of having my father in the D-Day invasion. He was especilly knowledgeable about the 82nd Airborne behind Utah Beach where my father landed. My dad saw paratroopers still hanging in their harness, dead, on June 8 and 9. The scene of John Wayne ordering the dead troopers cut down was especially poignant for me.
All and all, this is very well done. I relish the scene of Peter Lawford's Lord Lovat landing with Bill Millen, the bagpiper piping war songs. Millen played himself in the movie. Also the bagpipe haters' reaction, Sean Connery and his buddy, was funny. You either like the pipes or you hate them. My dad is a bagpipe hater, and still explodes whenever the subject comes up.
