The card set that changed the hobby of baseball/sports cards forever. Upper Deck was the brainchild of Paul Sumner, who worked in the
printing industry, who came up with the idea for a premium card and hired Robert Young Pelton to design and produce a prototype card in place of the traditional cards that were printed on cardboard and led to the "Delux Sets" such as
Topps Stadium Club, Ultra Fleer and Leaf cards from Donruss. Upper Deck also unveild a new strategy by having
television advertisemnts for its product and begin also to create sets for other sports as well and the company ulimately surpassed Topps as the top company in the sports card industry as in 2007 (for a period which for some reason actually ends on Feb 28) Upper Deck earned $ 263.2 million while Topps earned $185.7. Also this set is best known of the Ken Griffey Jr.
