This set re-triggered the basketball popularity boom. It should be pointed out that a company named Star created NBA cards during the early 1980's after Topps ceased its basketball card production after the 81-82 edition but did not recieve a great deal of distribution thus Fleer is considered the set that got things going again for hoops cards. The design for this set is only average but the value of this set is astronomical as it is considered to be the rookie card for most players, which most notably includes Michael Jordan's rookie card (again Star had one but did not have a great deal of distribution) even though he had been in the leauge for two seasons (84-85 and 85-86 season) when this set was released to the public along with true rookie cards for the 85 NBA draft class which includes the likes of Patrick Ewing and Karl Malone. All cards from this set are worth a lot and an open packaged set is worth a great deal because of the possiblity of finding the Jordan rookie card.
