Despite Michael Jordan's stunning decision to retire shortly before the start of the season, the Bulls, despite only being able to replace Jordan with role-player Pete Myers and the team's only major addition being finally be able to bring Toni Kukoc over from Europe, were still able to win 55 games behind the dynamic play of Scottie Pippen and quite possibly could have won the NBA Championship. However the team was defeated by the New York Knicks in the second. However the Bulls cold have won the series as with the series tied at 2-2 games a piece, in game 5 at New York, with the Bulls lead by two in the final secons of teh game, Scottie Pippen was called for a questionable foul on Hubert Davis who was attempting a three pointer and the Knicks, came away with an 87-86 win and won the series in seven games. Had the Bulls won the series, it is very reasonable to think they could have defeated the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals and presnted a formidable challenge to the Houston Rockets in the Finals.
