this is arguably the greatest first round game in NCAA history and the biggest upset in sports history that never happened. As a Georgetown fan, I pulled my hair out this entire game. The Hoyas were red-hot coming into the tournament, after destroying everything in its path during the Big East tournament and this game seemed to be a wipeout. However Princeton, running its offense to precision and had a 29-21 victory at the half. This game was being shown by ESPN, and I remember before the game Dick Vitale said it would be an easy victory for Georgetown. I remember when the broadcast went back to ESPN studios, John Saunders and Dick Vitale said nothing for about 15-20 seconds (roughly, might have been longer) and this is not an exaggeration. They were on the air (and they knew it) and both were so stunned by Princeton's play they didn't say anything. They just looked at each other! This game was also the first Princeton game where the nation saw how effective and dangerous Pete Carrill's offense could be. It lead to several almost wins in the tournament before Carrill pulled out a victory over UCLA in 1996.
