04/05/2008 | John played at LA city basketball power Crenshaw High School, and was the LA City Player of the year in 1988, as he averaged 25 points per game but did it in the role of the team's sixth man. He was recruited by 30 schools including power houses such as UCLA, Louisville, DePaul and Texas. However he signed with UTEP, taking a liking to coach Don Haskins. However, John stopped going to class while at Crenshaw HS and was never eligible to play at UTEP.
