Arguably greatest baseball announer of all time (or at least in top 3) and possibly greatest sports announer of all time. A wordsmith on the mic, almost everything he says on the mic seems like its written is lyrical--(like the writing of legemdary LA Times columinst Jim Murray)--but does it off the top of his head who does an extreme amount of preparation for games he calls (also for tennis, golf and football as well). Also can point out things in a game strategically that some people might not notice. Also an under rated ability of his is being able to read lips of players and managers, usually during stoppage in play, such as when a manager or catcher visits the pitcher on the mound. Extremly friendly and down to earth (I've had the pleasure to speak with Vin on a couple of occasions) and very humble and modest--some might say too humble or too modest as a matter of fact (some might even say he is faking modesty but he's not) but I would rather see that then arrogant and haughty any day. When inducted into Hall-of-Fame in 1982, the gist of his speech was "Why me?". Loved by Dodger fans just as much as any legendary Dodger player. Quite simply the best.

I caught a few games as a youngster and I found him to be terrific- classy, articulate, and let the action speak for itself. Too bad young sportscasters don't emulate him as much as they should.

My personal favorite, fluid, graceful, and a master of the language and the game.

Its a tight race at the top of this, with Harwell and Barber, but I'd take Scully by a nose.
