Never heard him call a game (although I did hear some small snippets when watching a Dodgers-Yankees World Sereies game on Classic Sports Network (now ESPN Classic) as he was ahead of my time but I know he was Vin Scully's mentor so that's enough to earn a five rating from me.

Superlative.

With Harwell and Scully, the pinnacle of the legendary figures on this list.

That soft southern accent was the perfect touch for games on radio on lazy summer afternoons.
