About 2 years ago, I discovered Arthur Lee's Love almost by accident, and it was "love" at first listen. They have very few songs that aren't great that I've heard, and this assuredly is among the foremost of all those great songs...eerie and beautiful...but as Oscar mentions, its meaning is a bit obscure, although the opening lyrics-- "Sitting on a hillside, Watching all the people die, I'll feel much better on the other side, I'll thumb a ride..." -- do not convey warm, wholesome feelings for sure. As I've said before, it's a true, true shame that one of the greatest, most influential and creative groups of the 1960's is so unknown to most mainstream audiences, then as well as now. Everyone who hasn't heard them should go out asap and buy one of their CD's-- critics do consider "Forever Changes" to be their best, but every CD of theirs that I've heard is loaded with gems. For me, discovering Love was akin to a religious experience.

Never specifically mentions insanity, I think, but it has a strong flavor of insanity throughout. Probably a pretty obscure song to most raters here if not a totally unfamiliar one, but one of the very best songs I've ever heard from one of the very best albums I've ever heard, "Forever Changes." I doubt anyone cares, but you can hear it on my page...
