The chorous is funny as hell. . .great song about Cubs pain. It's a little dated and you will need some patience, but get the lyrics before enjoying this underrated baseball song.

It's a cute, but not hilarious song. The chorus is something like "In the land of the free, they still bring fatigue, as the doormat of the National League." It gets an extra star from me because Goodman was such a gosh darn, nice, loveable singer-songwriter. I saw him a handful of times. Once he memorably broke a string in the middle of the song and instead of stopping he carried on a capella while he got a roadie to bring him a replacement, kept making up lyrics, replaced the string and tuned up, and then finished the song without missing a beat. I also heard him bring an audience to a hushed silence with a sad song about the death of his dad, and then followed it with a ripping version of Rockin' Robin. All of these performances were him alone on stage with his guitar. Actually the first time I saw him he was accompanied by Jethro Burns, and old mandolin player who used to be in a cornball country comedy duo called Homer and Jethro. He was great.

This guy, who died about 25 years ago, was a good friend of the excellent singer songwriter John Prine, and isprobably best known for writing "City of New Orleans," which Woody Guthrie's kid Arlo somehow took time off from hash and shrooms to record and have a big hit with around 1972...

Have that disingenuous you've never heard this but you're rating it kind of thing we get at times when you're just clowning around feeling, but was this about revenge on that poor Bartman kid?
