Great stuff, even though Zevon's customary ironic songwriting is somewhat muted.
As a sidebar, my father's family farms near the town of Big Beaver, Saskatchewan. Its a tiny little place, population of about 50, a couple miles from the Montana border. During prohibition it was a rendezvous and shipping point for rum-runners.

How Warren knew so much about hockey, I'll never know.

I love this song about the kid from Big Beaver, Saskatchewan, who became a hockey goon, but just wanted to score one goal.
Here is the second verse of the song showing our hero, Buddy, and how he got to be a goon.
"Buddy's real talent was beating people up His heart wasn't in it but the crowd ate it up Through pee-wee's and juniors, midgets and mites He must have racked up more than three hundred fights A scout from the Flames came down from Saskatoon Said, 'There's always room on our team for a goon Son, we've always got room for a goon.'"
