Depends on one’s personal circumstance.

Looking back at the way my mother raised me, the best I could give her right now is a weak three stars.

Although I'm not as close to my mom as I am with my dad, she is very important to me.  I'm thankful that she loves me very much, no matter what I do in life.  Heck, this woman practically worships the ground I walk on!

God bless my mom!

My mother and I were never particularly close.  Our personalities had too many places that didn't mesh, and neither of us was big on compromising

Added to which, after my father died when I was just hitting puberty, she had a hard struggle to support herself and me, and I didn't make it any easier by doing my best to turn into a teenage hoodlum.

There was a long period when we hardly spoke to each other without fighting.  She didn't approve of my lifestyle, my career choices, my choice of friends, and she had no trouble telling me about it.

But time passed and I grew up, and she grew older, and we both grew a little more tolerant.  I came to appreciate the sacrifices and effort she had made, and the courage it had taken to perservere.  She came to appreciate that just because I didn't choose the path she wanted me to choose, didn't mean all my choices were bad.

The last ten years of her life, we learned to like each other.  It was valuable to both of us, and we both came to terms with each other and with ourselves.

I'm a lot like my mother and she is the person that made me who I am, for better and for worse. I think the most important thing she taught me was the difference between need and want, which many people don't seem to undestand today. Things weren't easy as I was growing up but she managed to keep things together and we never went without the necessities of life. She's the only one in the family now that I've always been close to and it's hard to see her slip away to Alheimer's, making every day more precious than the day before.

My mother was outgoing and cheerful, in spite of all the pain she was in. She always had a smile for someone. I'm blessed to have had her in my life. I still think of her often.

To whoever gave the funny vote to LadyJesusFan777 (my sister), I just want you to know that I did not take kindly to that. I'm sure that most people with brains will cherish their families, and sadly, a fair number of them do not have the opportunity to bond with them. Some people are lonely, and only wish they had family to be close to. This is a very tender issue for most of us here, and that's when those "funny" marks can stab a person in the heart. Especially when one is related to the person who got it. I smell some dirty, filthy rats here.

Someone thought I was exaggerating when I said the "funny" button was being used as a weapon. Well, this is exactly what I meant. There are more weapons in life than the ones that hurt physically.

I can say that I miss my mother very much. She was one special lady. She passed away a little over three years ago, and still seems like it was just yesterday.

A mother is or at least should be one of the most important people in a person's life. By the age of two 90% of the child's personality is already developed. Mothers play an important role in that development. My mother died when I was five and even though I missed out on much by not having my mother with me as I grew up, I am who I am largely because of my mother.

There is no question in my mind that in the first years of my life, mother was the most important person in my life. As time went by, other relatives entered my universe, but mother was always number one.
