 | zuchinibut (35) 04/20/2008 | Onions are always a part of my recipe, but I don't think they would be a necessary part of all chilis.

 | twansalem (36) 04/18/2008 | Absolutely essential. I've been in the process of making chili and stopped dead in my tracks because when I went to the cupboard, I was out of onions.

 | Automatt (28) 04/17/2008 | I use white onions myself. You can also chop these up and use as a topping.

 | irishgit (136) 04/17/2008 | If I'm making chile with cheap ground beef, absolutely.
If I'm using higher quality meat, probably not.

 | CanadaSucks (45) 04/17/2008 | Can't imagine the dish without these, but I've met snobs who have complained about them. . .if you have a tough crowd, don't chop 'em, blend them down to paste and throw them in for good flavor without the texture.
