 | OceanSoul (4) 07/09/2008 | Ground beef is only acceptable in chili if no sausage or steak is available.

 | irishgit (138) 04/21/2008 | Yes, if you're unwilling to spring for cubed sirloin.
But don't cheap out here. Quality lean ground beef is the way to go. The regular grind is too fatty and too inferior quality, and the extra lean doesn't have enough fat to carry the taste.

 | zuchinibut (36) 04/20/2008 | This is obviously the most popular meat for chili, but it isn't necessary. I've had bison chili which is quite good, and my wife and I often make our chili with ground turkey.

 | CanadaSucks (45) 04/18/2008 | I must commend the unique and excellent alternate meat suggestions on this list, but chili is certainly an iconic dish that one associates with quality ground beef. . .

 | Donovan (130) 04/18/2008 | Ground beef is excellent in chili. Steak would be OK but I want my chili to taste like chili not stew.
