I hit the FUNNY button when a reviewer has amused me (intentionally or not) or made himself look foolish.

I recieve FUNNY ratings when I've been foolish, said something someone is annoyed by, or said something that's actually funny.

People with poor taste mark my music reviews FUNNY, thereby making themselves look silly.

One reviewer hits me with a FUNNY on almost every review I post. When he does that, he makes somebody look foolish... but it's not me.

UPDATE:

All of us reviewers are free to make ourselves look foolish or brilliant, and nothing anyone else does or says can alter that simple fact.

What if you truly do find the review or the reviewer foolish. I'd say its a valid interpretation in those cases, wouldn't you?

I agree with Donovan on this one. Someone goes to great lengths to do this on every one of my reviews, passing over a few here and there. I know what's going on.

Update: Apparently, they go back when they think people are offline, and mark everything funny.

I suppose that's the intent, but I don't think it gets the job done. People here are all too aware that the funny option is often used to replace the disagree and anyone reading it will either agree or disagree. Nothing but the review itself will make someone look foolish.

Some people use it like this, I suppose, but I can't support such a thing since I highly value REAL HUMOR instead of ridiculous reviews that get marked funny only because we no longer have the unhelpful button.

UPDATE: I dunno, misuse thought it may be, those kind of funnies are all too often an affirmation of how foolish a person already looks. I'm not so sure about the aim to intimidate people since this is just the internet and only some really weird people get intimidated online, but the claims of insult seem on the money and often the insults are... *ponders* on a more solid foundation than some would admit...

I'm not so sure as such an action would make another reviewer look foolish so much as the one actually performing said action.

No need. At one time or another most reviewers (myself included) have looked foolish. Some are better at it than others, of course....

Besides, how exactly is a "funny" vote make anyone look foolish? Maybe I'm not getting something, but then I'm not exactly a sensitive guy.

This happens all the time on RIA. I think it's sad that a reviewer spends their time trolling another reviewer just to try to make them look foolish. I think the troll is the one looking foolish.

Absolutely. When you are serious about an issue and your words are clearly expressing a real concern regarding a serious matter, getting a funny vote is purposely done to intimidate, insult, degrade and offend the reviewer.

Nothing I do could make some of these people look any more foolish than the stuff that actually comes out of their keyboard.
