 | CanadaSucks (51) 07/01/2008 | Getting dumber. Russia was a purely atheist state? Sure comes as news to the Russian Orthodox church- which Stalin (who didn't think much of religion) would have been a fool to completely dismantle an institution that had been (for years) working with the czars to keep the peasantry under control. The Orthodox church influence extended well into the reign of the USSR- and the communist replacement of religion (the uniforms, flags, the constant praising) simply places the state as the idol of worship at the center. Only Americans live in the fantasy world that those darned commies just needed more bleeding crosses. The reds had religion kids- their party, their government, and a well-established Orthodox church that helped many aspects of the new communist order.
