Pseudo-academics are the college town people you most want to avoid. They love nothing more than to rant on and on about their ultra-liberal political views. These political views are often held without any solid reasoning behind them, other than they fit the image that they are trying to project. They also think that their particular college town contains the most enlightened citizens in the state, and will go to great lengths to convince you of such. Conversations with them typically go in circles. If you are unfortunate to talk to them for long enough, you will likely find that they hold or are working towards a bachelor's degree in the humanities. If they have already graduated, they probably have a job which does not utilize their supposed education at all.

Luckily, male pseudo-academics are easy to spot. Most of them are under the age of 40, and they tend to wear tweed flat caps and black plastic framed glasses. In colder weather, they are also fond of tweed jackets.

Female pseudo-academics, on the other hand, tend to be harder to spot. Black plastic framed glasses are a good indicator, but are by no means a guarantee that you're dealing with a pseudo-academic.
