I liked this flick about killing a few commies and associated mopes for Uncle Sammy. That is about the only Swayze movie that I could give higher marks.

Reagan-era wet dream that had a high school club or gang ("The Wolverines") kicking some commie ass. Had it been made in the 1940's, I guess, it would have had Archie, Jughead, Betty and Veronica kicking 'em some Nazi ass. Or Slip Mahoney, Sach, Gabe and Whitey taking down Tojo. In other words, it provides a lot of laughs if you see it in the right frame of mind, or in a chemically altered frame of mind. Swayze makes no particular impression in the film; then again, neither does Charlie Sheen, Lea Thompson, C. Thomas Howell, etc. They're interchageable, all-American basketball players one day; seasoned guerilla fighters that you don't wanna mess with the next. Not surprisingly, the villains are the most interesting characters. Ron O'Neal ("Superfly") plays a character obviously inspired by Che Guevara. William Smith ("Invasion of the Bee Girls", "Grave of the Vampire") plays his Russian military commander as a cross between Boris Badenov and Ivan the Terrible. Ben Johnson, Powers Booth, and Harry Dean Stanton play the adults willing to allow the "young un's" to win the fight for Truth, Justice, and the American Way for them (Superman wasn't available?). Supposedly a re-make is being planned. If you see it sober, you have only yourself to blame!

Imbecilc cartoonish reactionary tripe that has the benefit of being unintentionally hilarious. Swayze is about as believable as a "freedom fighter" as I would be as the starting shortstop for the Red Sox.
