"Pardonnez-moi, monsieur." Marie Antoinette (1793) 5

Marie got blamed for something she didn't say and was put on trial for crimes she didn't commit. This is what she was tried for: 1.Orchestrating orgies in Versailles. 2.Sending millions of livres (money)of treasury money to Austria. 3.Plotting to kill the duc d'Orléans. 4.Incest and sexual abuse of her son. (One of the biggest crime and yet even the women who wanted her death protested against this charge in Marie's defense) 5.Declaring her son to be the new king of France. (Considered highly unlikely) 6.Orchestrating the massacre of the Swiss Guards in 1792. (The years before her death) She was given less than one day to defend her position. Before her sentence she was quoted in saying "If I have not replied it is because Nature itself refuses to respond to such a charge laid against a mother." "Monsieur, I beg your pardon." were her last saddened words as she inadvertently stepped on her executioners foot.

Sure, this shows good manners, but what about her famous quote "Let them eat cake"?
