05/08/2008 | Supposedly, the concept for "The Archies" came from Don Kirshner, who was exasperated by the acrimonious relationship he had had for several years with The Monkees. Kirshner allegedly decided he would be able to exert more control over cartoon figures than he had been able to do with flesh-and-blood human beings. I remember reading the Archie comics occasionally as a kid (I preferred horror and the Hulk) but never found myself watching the short-lived TV-series and other than their hit song, which I remember liking at the time in an offhand sort of way, never paid much attention to their "musical career".
